Thanks for that. Interesting that the cast actually played the live stuff themselves, makes you wonder what on earth 'Joy Division' actually contributed to the film... apart from writing the original songs of course! 
Actually there were some original JD songs played in the movie...like LWTUA & Atmosphere & probably others too, cant remember now.
I was in the Sunday matinee yesterday and it was full house. The organiser told the crowd that CONTROL was one of the most popular movie in this year's Sydney Film Festival...of course! since they only screen it twice throughout the entire festival duration. Anyway, she then mentioned that due to popular demand, CONTROL will have additional screening next week...so Ron, check the SFF website since you missed out on tix.
I came out of the movie with the impression that it was a good movie (but not as good as I was expecting it to be)...maybe I need a second viewing. I like Anton's B+W photography and great compostion on the screen in terms of massing, light & darkness. Where I felt disappointed was the screenplay...I felt it would probably be better if Ian's narration continue throughout the entire movie ( .....not only in parts where he's writing lyrics or letters...)
The music was good though together with those mock-up concert footage - like the entire segment of So It Goes was re-created, good stuff! And the music was really loud too...and sounds a bit different, now I know it was actually played by the actors as well.
The best part for me was when Ian coming out of his place & walking on the street with the HATE trenchcoat on and the music played in the background (I think it was transmission, cant remember now) - this scene rivals the Tony Monero (John Travolta) walking down NY streets with Bee Gee's staying alive blaring out in the background in Sat Nite Fever!!
Another great moment was the ending - black smoke coming out of some stack (from Ian's cremation) to the big eyed sky over the vast Mancunian countryside with Atmosphere played in background - brilliant!!
