WHOAH DUDES!!! :jawdrop: :jump: :jawdrop: :jump::jawdrop: :jump:

Right now I'm listening to Simple Minds' cover of Love Will Tear Us and OH MY STARS AND GARTERS....IT'S BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL!!!!!!! Is Simple Minds THAT good, that they can outdo Joy Devision themsleves????

If you don't believe me, grab Neon Lights by Simple Minds. It's such a good cover I'd bet a MILLION dollars Ian Kurdess would be impressed to the friggin bone! :drummer: :guitar: :bass: :dj: :beer2:

I prefer Paul Young's version.

Next you'll be saying their version of The Needle and the Damage Done is better than Neil Young's.

I was just thinking Chris, how much better Corporation of One's Real Life is than the original Simple Minds Theme From Great Cities.

Actually I can't even lie about that, TFGC is one of only 3 or maybe 4 SM songs I still listen to with any frequency.

I believe I am an even handed, fair, judicious, pensive, reflective and objective human being. I have not heard this cover, but your're still talking complete bollocks.

The problem is that Simple Minds are a bit shit :brow:

I can't believe anyone would say such a thing about LWTUA. :read:

WRONG!!!

Its totally a different version. Simple Minds made it rave-techno fromat-genre. So there is no basis for comparison.

WRONG!!!

You can't even spell Joy Division. You cannot claim it a typographical error because the 'E' and the 'I' are 5 keys apart in the keyboard. Unless you are using a unique keyboard when all of the vowels are together side-by-side.

And just because of one song in your opinion that is better than the original, you therefore conclude that Simple Minds can undo Joy Division? What kind of analogy is that?

WRONG AGAIN!!!

I don't believe in you, and you better prepare your million dollars. I did check out Neon Lights album in wikipedia, and it doesn't have the LWTUA track. Well, to give you the benefit of the doubt, wikipedia might be wrong, but for all the others you posted, you are WRONG!

The American is the only one that comes to mind.

Speaking as a Simple Minds fan...

The version is nice, yes. But it's more like a remix than a cover version. There's nothing like the original... :thumb:

But it's a great song, so it makes great covers, too ;).

Yes, Love Will Tear Us Apart (Literal Mix) by Joy Division (6:55). It appeared in the 1998 DJ Remix "officially unofficial" (hehehe) bootleg album in the US titled "Ultra Hot Art Disc 2." Other tracks from that album are: 1963 (Air Force One Mix), Slave (Lucky Mix), Tasty Fish (Cape Cod Mix), and Getting Away (Mrs. Craig Mix). The Disc 2 features NO remixes with tracks from NO related bands.

There are four (4) Ultra Hot Art (UHA) DJ Remix bootleg album remixes. They are not released simultaneously. UHA Disc 1 features various artists remixes, Disc 2 features NO and related bands, Disc 3 features Depeche Mode, and Disc 4 features Pet Shop Boys.

I had forgotten over the last 20 years that the Simple Minds even existed. I must have missed out.

They did a lot covers, in 2001 they released an album called neon lights. That one includes:

Gloria Man who sold the world Hello, i love you....and a lot more

Of course (slaps forehead) thank you for giving me another one for my too short list on the 'top 10 bands you hate' thread!

And the only decent non JD versions of LWTUA are the Swans ones. The Cure one was absolutely dire (and I _like_ the Cure).

Though having listened to Community 2 I think Almonso should do trombone driven versions of all JD's songs. Improves them no end.
