Very good Wilson tribute on XFM Manchester.
Steve Morris interviewed and asked by Dave Haslam whether it's possible that NO could play a wilson tribute show. Answers that "if there's one thing we can learn from Tony Wilson it's that anything's possible".
There are some folks around here who seem to REALLY want such a gig (not pointing fingers above me BTW). And, yes it would be fitting in a way.
But if $DEITY offered me the choice, I'd sooner have another 20 years of Tony than one more New Order Karaoke night.
EDIT: especially in light of how downright crushed he looked when I bumped into him as he was bailing from the Apollo, he looked like they'd let him down....miming...autocues...."hey let's rock people" style utterances.
May all have been in my head but that's how he looked, and sounded to me.
Sounds like a good idea. Ironic to think the last time I saw Tony was at the Ritz concert for Rob Gretton...

Played the first show listed 03.04.1990 all the way through on the way into this morning work have and got another lad here of an age listening to it through now.
Class from start to finish. Strange to hear references to the Poll Tax and the Strangeways Riot but every track's a winner.
There's a 20min segue an hour in kicking off with Pro-Gen which is proper hairs-on-the-back-of-your-neck! (Not heard that analogy on here for a while!). Oh, and it's nice to hear a bit of ACR in with the classics.

If ever there was a clear message to the currently feuding members of New Order to bury the hatchet (not in each other!) and come together to remember Tony, this is it.
Lads: The sad squabbling you have indulged in of late is put into perspective after the passing of Mr Wilson. It must have saddened him greatly to see you arguing in the media. It wasn't what Factory were about and it's beneath you. Sort it out and reform for a special gig, if only for one last time. You owe it to him and yourselves.

I probably do read too much into things, but honestly, if I had to pick one word for how he looked that night, it'd be "crestfallen". He was walking out mid-Temptation too I think, which surprised (what was left of) me.

I have no idea what Wilson looked like that night (indeed, I have pretty no idea about anything that happened during that gig), but I know that a former acquaintance remained sat behind Wilson, Yvette and child at the MEN '98 gig and reported that Tony spent the whole show shaking his head in disbelief at the endless bum notes and so forth and packed up and left well before the encore.*
So, you'd have though he'd been used to it by then, eh?
* - NB: said acquaintance also reported that Tony never removed his shades throughout the show.

What's the score with the downloading? You click "download" an egg-timer appears for about 20 minutes and then nothing? Where's it saving it to? Or is it downloading it at all?!!!

If you just click it'll attempt to download the entire file, and then play it so you have to wait for the entire file to load for that to happen.
You're better off just right-clicking then doing 'Save As' because, for some reason, my connection timed out a couple of times during the download. If yours is doing the same you won't get any notification of it if you've just clicked straight in. I had to restart it two or three times to get the entire file, although download rates were reasonable'ish at 150kb/s. Even so, think it took nigh on 10mins for the entire first show. Worth it though, I'm gonna pile a few more onto the iPod as soon as I get home.

Fook me, just downloading a couple of these. Some of the oldskool stuff in there is magic. Just looked at all the early rave and dance tracks circa 91.....it takes me back so it does

two weird things happened this morning,
Col texted me about a certain part of the Times' story exactly when I was reading it. And I texted him some lyrics out of Pro-Gen exactly as he was listening to it....
It weird for me anyway

MC Tunes tracks do make an appearance (mostly at the time of release - early 90's) - check the tracklisting links on the site - a couple of posters (Bunkerheadz & Brady) do a bloody good job at identifying (nearly) all the tracks!
If anyone has any more old Sunset FM shows that aren't on the site, let me know, and I'll upload them (space permitting, of course)!
(Oh, btw, Andy & Daz are DJ'ing at Sankeys this weekend as part of the Hacienda night - wished I'd got off my arse and went to the one after Versus Cancer this year - ah well...)

The last time I saw him, he was performing with 808 at last year's Versus Cancer, but yeah, the Alabama 3 track, and also an appearance in a film entitled "Diary of a bad lad" - dunno if it's been released or not?
I dont see what a tribute gig would achieve with New Order playing. From what I can see its clear there is at least one member of the band who doesnt want to be in the company of the other members of the band. Having them "put their differences aside" for one last gig for Tony would reek of tokenism and acheive nothing.
And surely, far too much water has passed under the bridge in the last 3 months for them to even consider it.
I'd like their to be some gig, but thats just me. I just dont think New Order should play it.

The only other 'name' band I'd associate with Wilson is the Mondays ... it's down to them or the Order really, neither of which bands carrying the same personnel they did when working with Wilson.
Only other band I could think of is ACR, who jumped ship from Factory the second they got a sniff of monies elsewhere.

Dunno about a tribute gig, but the elements are certainly paying homage to Tony. An earth tremor in south Manchester within hours of him passing and then today for his funeral it's all sunshine and clear blue skies. United let him down, natch, but you can't have everything your own way, eh?
If New Order did play any tribute gig, it'd cause a problem because it'd be well known that it would probably be the last one (until they get back together again) which would probably overshadow the point of the whole gig. It'd most likely be the same predictable shambles that were the 2006 dates, or even worse, an all Joy Division set because they couldnt be bothered to rehearse anything different- which would be understandable if at the moment they are talking to each other through lawyers.
If there was a gig, have the Mondays play, and have some bands that Wilson liked that werent on Factory. I dont like them but get Enter Shikari to play, and they'll bring along wuite a few young fans as well.

Liam, on one hand you're saying New Order shouldn't play because it'll be a "predictable shambles" and they "won't be bothered to rehearse anything"!

Which bit am I / are you missing here?! 
Who thinks that New Order playing the John Peel Tribute overshadewed that event? As well-loved as Peel was, would they have even filled that small venue without NO? I don't recall a mad flurry of tickets on ebay prior to the event and all the reviews the next day were really reviews of the NO gig.
If a tribute gig featuring New Order filled the GMex or the MEN and made a million quid for Christies, who would care what issues were overshadowed or what people's motivation was for turning up?
Any of the other acts mentioned, with the exception of the Mondays, would struggle to fill the Ritz. Sad but true.
It won't happen, but I am warming to the idea.
On one hand it seems unlikely there would be any kind of tribute gig involving New Order, then on the other hand, if they did it for Peel and Gretton surely one for Wilson is a given?
No matter how things stand at the moment, i doubt any of them would put their current personal feelings about each other over the debt they owe Mr Wilson.
But maybe they no longer see it 'that' way, maybe they think that the whole Wilson/Factory/Madchester thing owes them and it all rode on the sucess of New Order's career?

Uhm, that was the Peel memorial, wasn't it? He didn't wish, he just guessed, still I wouldn't want ot have said such a thing by now... Let's hope we get no more "guesses" from Hooky... ;)
