Anyone bought these yet (other than for box set investment purposes?)
Just wondering if anyone thought that there was an appreciable difference in sound over the originals. I'm equivocating about buying them and thought I'd let other people make my mind up for me...

Perused them in HMV, but being a canny scot i'm checking the local independent store before I release the cash....13 quid in HMV....was nearly persuaded to buy the Still vinyl in hessian sleeve for £19...

Yeah, I nearly bought the Hessian version of Still. £19 and it looks the business... Great marketing, though. I've had Still since it came out on vinyl and, later, CD. Do I really need another one? And for a few minutes in the Virgin megastore I was wavering...

I just saw it for £30 in Virgin Hull. Robbin' bastards.
Plus, HMV Hull has stopped doing 12" vinyl at all. No 12" singles, no LPs, just chart-likely 7" singles, presumably for reasons of space.

It's 28 quid at Juno, too... Suddenly makes the 60 quid for all 3 a bargain! :)
I took the plunge yesterday and picked up all 3 CDs from HMV Oxford Street under a guilt trip of "Well, I'll be buying them at some point so why not now?" the curse of collecting :( £38 altogether and I don't feel too bad because everywhere else seems to be retailing them for £15+ like Amazon UK, EIL etc.
Originally went into the Virgin Megastore on Tottenham Court Road and while they had the vinyl + boxset they didn't seem to have any of the remastered CDs, just a whole load of Qwest imports from the nineties 
so no ta.
It's hard to deny the packaging on the reissues is very classy; they've tried to make it look like more of a Factory release e.g. FACD 10 and the booklets are definitely worth a read with various new interviews. I've been listening to UP today and it does sound excellent in terms of sound quality but better than Heart and soul? Not sure and even if it is it's not by much.
Because these reissues don't include LWTUA or Atmosphere (until the new single comes out) and won't include Transmish at all I won't be slinging my H&S rips just yet. Once again, a New Order related release with more than a couple of fatal flaws.
The live discs sound alright but personally Joy Division shows have never really set my world on fire so I doubt they'll be getting excessive rotation.
I decided to wait on the vinyl box set as it's so blatantly overpriced. By the same token there's no point in buying the individual vinyls when the boxset is there unless you're truly minted.
Congrats to those who got it for £60 off HMV Online though, jammy gits 
I ordered UP & Closer from Amazon UK and it came to about $26 US each, and $7 for air mail. Not bad considering Amazon US first listed them as "imports" at $60 each, and now are available as "imports" at $46 each on 10/1
should have them by the end of the week.

I'll probably get this cd only as I didn't get the original Centredate one.

Yup :( I was hoping for 24 Hours plus the unedited-complete-with-intro-version of Ceremony but no er, joy; yet another wasted opportunity.
They also changed the track indexes around on this new Still CD. Isolation is missing the first few seconds next to the Factory original...

Spot on. Another wasted opportunity. All sounds a bit shoddy to me. I wonder how the vinyl versions compare and if 24 Hours is included like on the original Factory version.
Yes - 24 hours is on the vinyl version.
If anyone has a bootleg of the gig let me know - I want to create a CD with the first part of Ceremony restored and 24 Hours reinstated.

Also, they've managed to reissue the band's catalogue with the glaring exception of one of JD's best known studio tracks: Transmission. It's not on the repackaged albums (except live discs) and not on the forthcoming LWTUA single
Anyone thinking of buying these three reissues for £38 some good advice would be to buy this instead for £30-35:

Can't comment on the albums themselves (well, I can as I've heard pre-release CD-Rs of what are presumably the final versions, though I won't presume to know exactly the provenance of what we have on these reissues as far as the albums themselves go) but yes, I am very well qualified to discuss the live sets ;)
Please note that yes, the band/Warners are aware of the strong desire that 24 Hours should have been included on the Still CD reissue. It's unfathomable why they still didn't include it - while the CD running time as-is tops off near 80minutes, alternatives were suggested that would have made it possible while maintaining everything else that is on this release....
1) UNKNOWN PLEASURES CD2 The Factory, Hulme 13 July 1979 This was taken from a tape in the Gretton archives (presumably - while the same source as H&S, we think it's a different tape than what was used for H&S) and mastered by Warners with no direction from "the team".
While better in most ways than what was on H&S (and the complete gig, too), anoraks will notice that it too has pitch issues. Warners were made aware of this but apparently at too late a date to correct. We are also aware of the other glitches that exist on this version, also which were noted too late to correct.
This gig was the consensus choice of the band for the UP reissue, and yes they were aware it was mostly available on H&S previously. Other suggestions were made, but the band kept coming back to this.
2) CLOSER CD2 University of London Union 8 February 1980 I'll let the other individuals involved out themselves if they choose (but hey, we're all listed in the liner notes for the CD releases), but Duncan provided us with his actual cassette master - which AFAIK wasn't previously digitally transferred - that, after careful digital transfer by a co-conspirator, I then mastered for this release.
We provided it to Warners, who sent it off to their final mastering guys for the final version we have here. It is indeed far better than any circulating version of this gig, in fact I'd go out on a limb and say it sounds better than Duncan's raw-from-tape version itself!
The version released here isn't a far cry from what we provided Warners with. Bernard apparently loves this gig.
3) STILL CD2 Town Hall, High Wycombe 20 February 1980 Same process and provenance as ULU - though Warners did edit down a bit and maximize a tad what was given them. That version did include the small The Eternal soundcheck bit with the sound guys talking about Ian and the bird sounds, but Warners decided to lop it off the final release....
Hooky says this is the best version of LWTUA he's heard on any JD recording.
The entire process from getting Duncan's master tapes until this release day took almost exactly a year... We received Duncan's masters (the cassettes themselves) the first week of September last year. It's been a long, arduous process but I'm glad it's over, and to have my name associated with these releases is something I'll carry in my heart until the day I no longer grace this mortal coil. It's been truly an honor to have been involved in this project so closely, and while challenging at times (to say the least), I'm going to be so bold as to say this project had the potential to be a huge disappointment for all had we not gotten involved when we did.

really this is all annoying.why so many re-releases with new order/joy division? couldnt they have just released everything in a span of ten years instead of confusing the hell out of people. I don't see how anyone can keep up with the discography. I actually bought the same fucking cd twice cos I thought one was different from the other, just different sleeve.if you're gonna add some bootleg thingy, just makeacd and call it bootlegs or something instead of rehashing over stuff thats already been done or should havebeen done properly in the first place.

I've bought the lot plus the box set which i've opened and played. sounds very nice on vinyl. i just wondered how it compares to the original pressings? also have they been remastered since 'heart and soul'? there doesn't appear to be much info on the actual cd sleeves (which as it goes are nice but ruined by the horrible 'collectors edition logo'on the plastic outer, a plain one with just 'closer' or whichever printed on it would have been better!). can't hear much difference between these and the heart and soul box to be honest. anyone got an amazing system that could test this?! sorry for being a geeky fuck.
I think the remastered vinyl edges out the Factory originals, but not by much. The remasters have a greater sense of space about them - I detect a clearer top end and a slightly less upfront midrange.
A bit disappointed with the pressings though. The UP/Closer discs are by no means flat and my Still disc 2 has some blemishes that result in audible clicks.

Price seems fair to those if one wants to buy into it. If not living in an apartment and can play @a Decent level. Good to read the sound quality is there.
Past any importance now, yet. Think. Could've steered clear of the minimalist- styled packaging and instead gone to Town w/ over the top Carnival. Left the muted Tri- Tones etc.s to be unique and reserved for the original pressings so that when we find them 2nd Hand it's that much more Lucky, Special.
i bought still hardback hessian sleeve cover with a white ribbon wrapped tightly around it mint for 15 quid in 1985
i have all exept sordide sentimentale the ideal for living releases and fac sampler.
my favs are my earcom 2 contradiction on fast us import of shes lost control as an a side press over atmosphere but mine doesnt glow red throw the light like my mates does.i was lucky to get a 10" of short circuit electric circus on black vynll for 10 quid in 85 cant seem to find the coloured ones though on the street.
