Favourite Top 5 Albums of 2007 ?

Just curious to know what everyone's enjoyed this year...whilst waiting for the Sirens' second call. (don't hold yer breath)

For me, it was :-

1. LCD Soundsystem "Sound of Silver" (arrived like a belated sublime sequel to Power, Corruption & Lies)
2. Arcade Fire "Neon Bible" (very close 2nd, a grower)
3. Kings of Leon "Because of the Times" (better haircuts)
4. Grinderman "Grinderman" (return of 'noisy' Nick)
5. Interpol "Our Love To Admire" (singer reminds me of someone?)

Just realised, nothing British. I think I've been North Americanized.

Excelent NIN, Smashing Pumpkins, dinosaur jr and satellite party albums, but i was disappointed with the bloc party one

Blue on Blue is an outtake album from their 1st album lazer guided melodies. This was realsed by an old band member Will Corruthers. Available as a free down load on Spiritualized web site or from Sister ray records as a CD (you have to pay for this) Silent sound was the last proper officia release. Such a good outtaes album. Radiohead box set came out 3rd Dec so I'm classing it as this years release

Interesting choice. I think it had better sound quality than Artificial Soldier, but can't say it was a better remix album than Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D. The new tracks were really good though.

Burial - Untrue ... not sure why, it is just so

White Stripes - Jack White is like James Murphy except with blues rock, blending old and new with such cool/dorky accomplishment... sometimes hit or miss with both but so what

I'm sure I will discover excellent stuff from this year next year after reading end of the year lists...

disappointments....

Interpol's new... at this point Interpol are obviously way over my head now cause this bores the socks off of me. Those who still make Joy Division comparisons have obviously not listened much to Joy Division, such a different attitude and posturing

The Tuss (Richard D James)... people are praising this record but to me this is a disappointment, Richard has lost so much emotion from his music in the last decade, he has just become another decent faceless laptop knob twiddler, no longer in a class by himself

Ministry ... Alain Jourgenson has become so utterly boring and predictable, it is past time to have shut down Ministry, as this is suppossed to be the last record i think. Its no longer 1989. He become a total joke, a parody of himself.

Not a particularly great year - but stand outs were

Ian Brown - The world is yours Modest Mouse- We were dead before the ship even sank Unkle - War Stories

Hard Fi was ok but not brilliant

Also rediscovered the Field Mice!!!

I've told everyone since April I think LCD Soundsystem is the best record of 2007. Nothing else has come close. Good to see others here feel the same. :)

Agree, hibster, that the Wilco album isn't as good as their previous albums, but it's still very nice, imo.

Ah well, forgot to add The Great Lake Swimmers' "Ongiara" on my list, really enjoyed that. Fantastic artwork as well.

Try and get hold of their Essential Mix they did for Radio 1 back in the summer. Someone was telling me about it on Friday so I downloaded it over the weekend.

It's bonkers. Starts off with Hey Boy Hey Girl then goes into Run DMC vs Jason Nevins and then goes on to cram in 50-odd tracks in just two hours, covering loads of genres. It's got all the nu-rave stuff like NYPC and CSS but throws in bizarre olders tracks likle the Exploited, Gary Numan, Joy Division and the Clash.

It's a bit like wot Hooky's doing - mix of the old and new, punk and house - but taken to a more extreme level.

This is fabulous--thanks for all the tips. The only new album I got in 2007 was In Rainbows--hard to keep up with interesting contemporary music, esp. here in the US where these bands never get any airplay (unless it's on internet radio or you have a cool college radio station in your area).

Yeah, I'm with you. I gave it a listen based on the rec's here and liked the synthy rhythmic stuff - can definitely see the PC&L comparison - but the vocals are fucking awful.

Should've stuck to instrumentals I probably would have liked it. As it was I couldn't stand it, called my girlfriend at the record store and told her not to pick it up. Saved by iTunes.
