Here To Stay

I just got the 24 hpp soundtrack, and this version of "Here to Stay" just blows me away. Does anyone else feel this song would've been great for a montage in control?

one of the high points from the soundtrack, personally. it's a great track and production. thanks to the chemical bros.

To be honest, not at all. Can't see a post Curtis/Gilbert track enhancing the film at all.

Has been discussed at length on these boards, but I've always thought its one of the weakest singles they've ever released, and as a fan of both bands, The Chems really gave them a weak backing track to work with (especially after Barneys input to 'Out of Control'). Always thought the guitars jar badly on top of the electronic stuff.

Its weird, but as a UK fan of electronic music, I felt it sounded terribly dated on release, but everyone from across the pond seems to love it.

Perhaps we got more techno exposure here.

I loved it when I first heard it because it was a good dance track that encapsulated all I had loved about New Order previously, and I still had the bad taste of Get Ready in my mouth. An album of 10 Her To Stays was what I wanted, not 10 Rock The Shacks.

In that regard, yes, it sounds a little dated now, but I was just so happy to hear them doing dance music again...

Oh, and, sorry Michael, it has no business whatsoever in Control.

I suppose your right, I guess I thought the lyrics about Ian would've fit.

I've always thought this was a great single. The structure and mood is very reminiscent of Sub-Culture (Low-Life version), plus the lyrics are more vauge and less predictable than any of the recent singles. Both Get Ready and WFTSC suffered from a lot of bad lyrics that sound like bemused elementary school poetry. When I had seen them perform in 2005, I remember feeling a little embarrassed trying to sing along to the more recent material. Here to Stay may sound a little dated musically, but that contributed a lot toward it sounding more like a classic New Order song.

I have to disagree with it only appealing to the U.S market, I think it's one of their best, I'm sure the music has more to do with NO the the Chems.

I'd love to see Hooky do a track with them too, that would rock.

Bernard's vocal on Out Of Control is flat as a fart, but i still like the track.

Here To Stay is far superior in my opinion and one of the best things they've done.

I'd love a whole album of new order/chems songs

Am I mistaken or Here To Stay is listed as being written by Bernard Sumner, Gillian Gilbert, Peter Hook & Stephen Morris on the final credits of 24HPP? I'll have to check on the DVD...

Yep. This is a cracking song. Would have given Control quite a good positive lift as the end credits rolled

I think it was a New Order song with production by The Chemical Brothers, just not finished in time to make Get Ready.

Me too but I don't like John Simm's smarmy face in the video.

Great non-album single! It sounds so New Order, that's why some people might think it sounds dated...(?)

Has anyone already tried to mix up the original end the extended instrumental to create an extended vocal version? I've tried it once, but it didn't work out well...

good song.. but nowhere near as good as 'out of control'..

the mixes are decent...but sasha did better..

even the video for 'out of control' was better..

for awhile i thought bernard kept singing 'we're here tuesday'...

The only redeeming quality for "Out Of Control" is the break and the transition back into the regular beat just doesn't work and sounds like a lack of effort rather than an ending. I love the Chems music but this one just doesn't do it for me. "Here To Stay" is much more enjoyable and complete sounding despite a bad, harsh sounding mix. To each his own...

I always thought 'Out of Control' sounds like its a mad narcotic fuelled weekend in a studio, with no real ideas; it just happened, like many of the best tracks do. I have a vision of a crazy session (esp. as Bobby Gillespie was there too), and at some point Barney picking up a bass and doing Hooky impressions. The lyrics are brilliant too -

'It could be that I'm losing my touch, or maybe you think my moustache is too much'

Brilliant Barney in his prime.

Here to Stay sounds like a forced result of months of email tennis, relatively.

One thing I've always imagined is how terrible Here to Stay would sound live. Perhaps thats why it was never attempted in public at least.

but thats just it!.. its NO all over. The 'don't give a shit' attitude. Bet they were cracking up in the studio when someone came up with that, and then it roared into the UK charts at No 2.

Though the 24HPP version is my next choice. They both live happily in ipodland.

I know they performed "Here to Stay" on Top of the Pops, but never saw it. I wonder how that turned out.

They wouldnt have performed it live. At a push, the vocals might have been live.
