"Musically and historically, the track by Manchester Mekon is perhaps the most interesting contribution. Guitarist Frank Ewart and bassist Louise Alderman were founder Manchester Musicians Collective(Object Music) members, and with Chris Griffin on flute recorded The Cake Shop Device, a musicianly piece written by Ewart in 1977. Joy Division liked one of the component melodies so much that they asked Ewart for permission to adapt it. Ewart agreed, and Love Will Tear Us Apart has now become a modern standard..."
