Press release is on the front page. Sink or Swin is the debut single released late september.

Bad Lieutenant formed in 2007 with New Order’s Bernard Sumner (guitar and vocals) alongside Phil Cunningham (guitar) and Jake Evans (guitar and vocals). We can now confirm that they have completed their long awaited debut LP “Never Cry Another Tear” which is set for worldwide release on 5th October 2009 on Triple Echo Records. The album features sounds that have helped make New Order such a treasured, innovative force over the past three decades, but also featured is a brand new voice from exotic Macclesfield, Jake Evans.

The new album centre’s around crisp, streamlined, 21st century guitar music – underscored by keyboards and occasional melodica. The record includes Sumner’s seemingly effortless melodic invention, but now these familiar joys blend with vocals and the talented guitar work of Jake Evans.

“This album is very important to me,” says Bernard. “We’ve worked hard on it and I’m proud of it. It’s also important because it gives people the chance to hear a gifted new singer and guitar player who I think’s really talented.”

Together, the band have spent over a year writing, recording and mixing the album near Manchester, which features additional musicians including Alex James (Blur) and Stephen Morris (New Order and Joy Division) on several recordings. Song titles and live dates will be announced in due course. The live band will include Stephen Morris on drums and Tom Chapman on bass.

A debut single, “Sink or Swim” is expected to be released prior to the LP, on Monday 21st September 2009.

“There is some continuity to the music I’ve made in the past,” says Bernard. “But this is very different – because different people are playing on it. This is just how I now want to make music – it feels right to me and I hope at least a few other people feel the same.”

I don't know for you, but the important part for me is:

Song titles and live dates will be announced in due course. The live band will include Stephen Morris on drums and Tom Chapman on bass.

Finally!

Must say, considering I've been to Wolverhampton, missed Rambo and Leroy due to getting pissed somewhere with NOOlers, and actually seen the guy giving us business cards of their band at the end of New Order's show.. it's rather funny that we'll buy a record with them on it isn't it? ;)

Small world.

I suppose my thread is made useless by this much more informative press, haha. :)

I'm glad to hear Stephen Morris is part of the touring band, but I doubt I'll get to see them. What are the chances they'll play any US dates, you know? I would go to NYC to see them if they played there. So that's the official myspace page then? Not much, hopefully they'll make an official website soon.

i know this is not as important as the above headline but, what's with the photoshop pictures? couldn't they provide a more current pix.

They actually refuse to talk to each other already, and refuse to be in the same room.

Nah... Bernard prolly ignores them and they all try to stay out of the divas way.

You have a proper grudge against Bernard dontcha?!

Every single post you make is a sly pop at him.

How much are you getting on Hooky's payroll?

This place really seems to be dividing into two camps :\ohwell: To be honest, I'm not impressed with either of the new projects, but as I've only heard one song of each, I'll reserve judgement. Definitely looking forward to hearing this/any new album.

I know several people who have met and hung out with Bernard. They all said that he was a very kind, down to earth person. And in just about every interview I've read with Bernard, he seems to come off has a fairly nice and somewhat self depreciating person.

Plus, if he was such a Diva, why would let some some totally unkown singer/guitarist sing lead on three songs on his new record?

Everyone else in New Order seems happy to keep working with Bernard, which is why Phil and Steve are both in BL. I'd reckon Gillian gets along with Barney as well. This would make Hooky the odd man out, and its Hooky who left the band.

Though who knows why Hooky and Bernard had such a falling out. They both seem like nice guys to me, though.

Hell, Hooky has responded to every email I have ever sent him on Myspace, and he has no reason to. So, I'd say he is a class guy. :)

Bernard (music) + Hook (melodies) = perfection

Finally Barney's working with someone who knows how to use the internet!

Looks like Jake who's set that up. Similar to the Rambo and Leroy page. Seems to like outsourcing the work to 109 years old birds.

After being away for the past few months, due to Spotnick's announcement of perhaps closing or reducing the site, I expected there to be little news. Wow what a great way to start the summer! Thanks to all who have kept things going on here.

Has this image been posted yet? They added it to their MySpace album:

really looking forward to this. 3/4 of the last lineup of New Order. Looking forward to the UK dates. Barney states more guitars and less dancey which at 50 odd years old is probably a good thing. I reckon Barney has got one last great album in him and this could be it. If its not well lets hope lots of New Order songs get an airing on the up coming tour.

Those disembodied ghost heads are just copied from the photo shop pic on this site:laugh:

I suppose they might as well just lets fans do the internet stuff. The band and their offshoots outta send Nic free stuff, passes, and collectables for all his promotion of the bands.

Bad Lieutenant played gigs in the 80s?

Hi,

Yeah, apologies on the bad photoshop work, I tend to only have time to work on the site in the early morning right after work.

I appreciate any feedback and comments.

Im hoping to have a more flash based version of the site out soon (animation wise).

Well, the title "Never Cry Another Tear" is fitting then...

This is dedicated to New Order:

I've just realised that this thread has gone for two pages without anyone asking if there's a online version to download or listen to, or even whether anyone has heard it. Hardly anyone has, in fact, mentioned the song itself at all.

Could it be that everyone is dreading hearing it?

Imagine what the run in to the gig(s) will be like.

Talk about something else...

let's talk about website design!

edit: (several days later) HAHA, i guess that worked!!!!

Hey people, nice to be back. Been missing you lot, but very little time you know. Still, the BL news brought me here. I love the logo, really really beautiful and it'd be nice to know it's coming from Saville, but even if it's not, there's definitely an influence. Now what we really have to find out ASAP is if the record will have a major distribution deal. I like the name Triple Echo for the label, but I hope the CD will be widely available. It wouldn't be good if you could order it only from a few Manchester shops other than downloading it from iTunes. Please let us know as soon as you know it.

Met him, had breakfast with him, and I really doubt he would be a diva like some people think and accepted on the phone when his manager said we were there to come have breakfast with us.

But then again, he was on painkillers, so you never know lol.

First Interviews Hi Everyone

The three of us did our first interviews today for our European long lead press. Feels good to get out of the studio and talk to some different human beings!

Early responses to the record from journalists today has been good.

We're all gettin stuck into rehearsals now up at the farm and putting together a set for the upcoming gigs in Autumn.

Looking forward to the live dates.

All the best,

Jake and Phil

at their age i expect the UK tour to be a short affair around 5 dates of the major cities?

Hmm, did the price of NCAT Vinyl go up a couple of pounds? Maybe I'm imagining things. I'll wait for some more info, a site, etc before I do any preordering. I never buy from Amazon anyway. Can't wait to hear the studio version of Sink Or Swin. Maybe we'll get a b-side..

I downloaded the MP3 version of the album. It's about what I expected and am happy to have something fresh to spin from Barney and company. At 50 plus and counting certain expectations must be set aside. Continuation and survival rule the day, the year, and our current world dilemmas. Never Cry Another Tear is good enough, and good enough will just have to do. As much as discovering Joy Division in my 20's, having New Order all through the 1980's, being young at that time was wondrous. I wouldn't change a thing nor wish any of it back.

Looking at being 60 here in a few years and yes, we are still grooving. If you are wondering, old school still rules. Thanks Barney. Groove on - Russell E Scott Austin, TX

P.S. the best thing is ...... because this isn't a New Order album, I have no expectations. I listen with open ears and like what I hear.
