Some New Order-related tricky teasers here - just for fun! See how many you can fathom out....

Which one in each of these lists is the odd man out and why?

1 New Order Happy Mondays Joy Division Revenge ??

2 Arthur Baker Martin Hannett Steve Osborne John Robie ??

3 Fac 73 Fac 83 Fac 93 Fac 103 ??

4 Movement Brotherhood Technique Substance ??

5 John Thomson The Stone Roses Ralf Little Caroline Aherne ??

6 Making Out Reportage Clocking Off Common As Muck ??

7 Regret (The Rest Of) New Order Power Corruption & Lies True Faith ??

8 Ceremony Bizarre Love Triangle Touched By The Hand Of God Atmosphere ??

9 Primal Scream Flowered Up The Charlatans Faith No More ??

10 New Order Happy Mondays Joy Division Revenge ??

(careful - this last one is a cheeky trick question!)

Have fun with all that grey matter! ;)

First off, I don't think Fac 83 was a NO single. BM was 73, Confusion was 93, and Thieves Like Us was 103.

FAC 83 was a poster for 1 year of Haçienda.

#4 seems to be a bit obvious.....The first three are proper albums, while Substance is a collection.

1 & 10 are the same right?

Happy Mondays are the odd ones out since Hooky never played bass with them.

Total guesses, but here goes:

  1. John Robie. He's only mixed New Order, not produced them.

  2. John Thompson. Ralf Little Played Peter Hook, Caroline Aherne was married to Peter Hook and the Stone Roses were produced by Peter Hook.......leaving John Thompson who has nothing at all to do with Peter Hook.

  3. Clocking Off. New Order or various parts of New Order provided music for the rest.

  4. The Rest Of New Order. You're proud to have the other three in your collection.

1 New Order Happy Mondays Joy Division Revenge ??

Revenge are shit? ... no, HM's only band without a NO member.

2 Arthur Baker Martin Hannett Steve Osborne John Robie ??

Steve Osbourne is only producer who hasn't produced NO.

3 Fac 73 Fac 83 Fac 93 Fac 103 ??

As mentioned.

4 Movement Brotherhood Technique Substance ??

Substance is a greatest hits album, others are new material.

5 John Thomson The Stone Roses Ralf Little Caroline Aherne ??

The Stone Roses are not immediately linked to NO

6 Making Out Reportage Clocking Off Common As Muck ??

NO did incidental music for all of the above except Reportage, which they were once in.

7 Regret (The Rest Of) New Order Power Corruption & Lies True Faith ?? True F

8 Ceremony Bizarre Love Triangle Touched By The Hand Of God Atmosphere ??

BLT is only album track.

9 Primal Scream Flowered Up The Charlatans Faith No More ??

10 New Order Happy Mondays Joy Division Revenge ??

Revenge are shit.

(careful - this last one is a cheeky trick question!)

Have fun with all that grey matter! ;)

Shit cakes. Your right.

Even when I posted it I thought, no, it is incorrect. Answer is this - all are alive except the late Martin Hannett.

The real tricky one is thus:

Regret (The Rest Of) New Order Power Corruption & LiesTrue Faith ??

ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON MATE!! 100%!! EXACTLY the answer I was looking for!

And some of you got Q3 right as well - so well done to those of you!!

As for some of the others (Q1, Q4, Q7 and Q8 in particular)- I've noticed you have given some answers that can be regarded as correct in a way, BUT, let's face it - they're rather obvious, and sadly NOT the ones I'm looking for - they just require a bit more thought - the answer to Q4 is particularly interesting especially if you reside in the UK (clue!) .

Keep 'em coming then! ;)

:cool2: :cool2:

Q4 - they were playing dates in the US at the release time of each album...

Regret and True Faith both peaked at Number4, so I'll say that PCL did as well, which makes The rest of the odd man out

WELL DONE THERE, LITTLE FELLA!!

Chartwatchers take note! Like Shuglet says: Taking the UK Albums and Singles Charts into consideration, True Faith made #4 in 1987, Likewise, Regret matched this peak in 1993, Power Corruption & Lies was New Order's first top 10 album - making #4 in 1983....which leaves (The Rest) of New Order - which on re-entry into the chart (after the original (The Best Of) also made #4 !!) managed to make only number 5 - thus this one is the odd one out!

That's Questions 3, 5 and 7 answered correct then!! :)

Ok, time for another wild stab in the dark!

  1. Movement - it's the only one that wasn't released straight away on CD.

  2. Ceremony - wasn't released as a single in America.

  1. Technique - all the others have numbers on the cover.

  1. Touched - the others have all been re-released at some stage, haven't they ?

4- Technique It was recorded in Ibiza while the others were recorded in Blighty.

Movement was November 81. I meant that there was a US tour with each album, rather than the precise week of release !

Technically speaking then, there were also US tours for Low-Life (Aug 85), Get Ready (Area:One), Republic (Aug 93) and PC&L (whenever they played the Paradise Garage, etc - Summer? 83).

Does anyone know if NewORder are going to tour Amerikkka soon? I just love Regret and Blue Monday and would love to see them within close proximity of my favorite McDonalds and Starbucks. With President Bush in office our country is so much safer than Britain who has a liberal Leader. NewOrder would be safe here. We can use Stevens tanks to patrol our borders. Can you tell me when NewOrder are going to come to America?

Number 4 Technique....was it because it was the only album of the 4 to go straight to Number 1 in the charts?

Number 6 Is it Common as muck? I thought Steve & Gillian done music fer the other 3

Number 8 Is it BLT....was that the only one not to make the Top 40?

Number 2 John Robie? although he remixed Sub-Culture it wasn't on general release (It came free with Record Mirror)

No.4. No! Think again! carefully!

No.6. Wrong choice I'm afraid.

No.8. Completely wide of the mark!

No.2. Ditto again...

Have yerself a few jars Shuglet - you might be able to clinch it then! ;)

Originally posted by Chris Nash Q4. Movement - last Martin Hannett production? Or the only one NOT to be released on CD when first released?

You mention CD formats .... that's a very good try [well, it CAN qualify as a correct answer even!] but thinking a little further on those similar lines (i.e. formats) will take you to the PROPER correct answer that I'm looking for.... you're so nearly there!! ;)

Think again: Why is the answer to Q.4 "Technique"??

:cool2: :cool2:

Okay, I said that I give up but I don't. Q4: Technique was the only album released in DAT format. Am I right this time?

Hubert:

Unfair :jump: :jump: :jump: !

But the above may well be correct...

Unless the answer was minidisc?

Oh hell - I give up too - here here:

Answer to Q4: "TECHNIQUE" is the odd one out because it was never issued in the fabled FACTORY LIMITED EDITION WHITE BOX CASSETTE version.

All the other three titles were initially issued in this format.

Now that one's settled - there's still another five or six answers left to unravel..... :evil4:

:cool2: :cool2:

Can we have a recap of the ones left unanswered please? this is getting rather confusing! but a great thread :)

Cheers mate for your comments :thumb:!

And yeah - I'll just mention again that questions 3, 4, 5, 7 & 8 have now been answered (Q4 admittedly by me - just to speed up the process really, although I woulda liked one of yer to have got that one on your own!).

These questions still await solutions!

Q1. New Order/Happy Mondays/Joy Division/Revenge Q2. Arthur Baker/Martin Hannett/Steve Osborne/John Robie (this one is so obvious as well - probably the easiest one of the lot!!) Q6. Making Out/Reportage/Clocking Off/Common As Muck Q9. Primal Scream/Flowered Up/The Charlatans/Faith No More Q10. New Order/Happy Mondays/Joy Division/ Revenge (different answer from Q1 !!)

Right then....back over to you!

:smoker: :smoker:

Q1 - Joy Division never played the Hacienda (did Revenge?)

Martin Hannet produced NewOrder while the others did remixes. I thought someone got this right already.

Q9 I'm going to guess that one of them has never been on the same bill as New Order, so without researching I'll say Flowered Up.

Q2. Martin Hannett - Produced both Joy Division AND New Order - the others only did New Order stuff. (Arthur Baker didn't just remix, he co-wrote and produced 'Confusion')

Q9. Primal Scream - Bobby Gillespie actually played on stage with New Order - the others have only appeared on the same billing.

Q10. Joy Division - members of 'Happy Mondays' have appeared live with all the others...?

Originally posted by blau montag Martin Hannet produced NewOrder while the others did remixes. I thought someone got this right already.

You're nearly there! But you've only got half of the answer!

Originally posted by Old Blue Q9 I'm going to guess that one of them has never been on the same bill as New Order, so without researching I'll say Flowered Up.

You've got the right band - Flowered Up - but the wrong reason. Why Flowered Up? Okay, here's a clue: think titles (shite - that's probably a dead giveaway now)

Q9. Primal Scream/Flowered Up/The Charlatans/Faith No More

Flowered Up is the only band that doesn't have a song or album with the same tilte as an New Order song.

Primal Scream - Vanishing Point The Charlatans - Weirdo Faith No More - Angel Dust

Flowered Up come close though with Sunshine.

Revenge is the only one that didn't have Martin Hannett truning the knobs at one time or another.

Do you remember what she was called by any chance?

I thought that Bella Grout (what a name!) was a complete and utter bitch - SO Thatcher-like it was untrue...and remember what Margi Clarke ("Queenie") did to her poodle dog in revenge?? THAT WAS FOOKIN' PRICELESS MAN!!

I even remember the EXACT words she snarled as she took that bitch's mutt from the office and shoved it into her car to ...um..get "intimate" with her and Chunky's own lustful hound.....

"right..and as for you, doll, you just get those lallies movin' before I skin yer for a bog seat cover!!" :D

...Which - technically is a correct answer as well [For QUESTION 1 that is (fook me ageen this is gannin' awkward!)] - but the REASON I'm looking for is a hell of a lot more OBVIOUS than that one!! SCOOBY SNACK x 10 for you - yer swot! Well done too for being the most determined of the bunch here an' all my friend! All you've got remaining now is to give a different answer to the same question for #10 and you will be officially designated the undisputed CHAMPION of this teaser! ;)

By the way, the answers posted by the guy above you looks like they could be correct in their own peculiar way! But yours was the answer I was looking for - not only did Revenge fail to make the top 40 but THEY NEVER HAD ANY OFFICIAL UK CHART ENTRIES AT ALL IN THEIR ENTIRE EXISTENCE!!!

So here we are then....it's cliffhanger time.... just one more correct answer left to go... Q10. Who's able and willing to rise to the final challenge then?? ;)

Okay then folks, better dust off this teaser for what I hope will be one of the last times before a life in confinement with nappies an' feedin' bottles an' cribs beckons for the long haul.... ;)

As a tribute to the good old chart run-downs of yore I will now recap through all the correct answers and the brainy folks who posted them before I leave you with the last - as yet still unanswered - final Question 10 to ponder over.....

1 New Order / Happy Mondays / Joy Division / Revenge ??

A. = REVENGE. They never had any hits. Correctly answered by Chris Nash.

2 Arthur Baker / Martin Hannett / Steve Osborne / John Robie ??

A. = MARTIN HANNETT. The only one to produce both Joy Division and New Order. Correctly answered by Chris Nash

3 Fac 73 / Fac 83 / Fac 93 / Fac 103 ??

A. = FAC 83. The others were New Order singles, whilst this was the number for a poster for the Hacienda's 1st Birthday. Correctly answered by both Ricardo Fernandes and Green.

4 Movement / Brotherhood / Technique / Substance ??

A. = TECHNIQUE. The only one of the four that was NOT issued in the special Factory white cassette box edition on its initial release. Unfortunately none of you got the answer to this one I was seeking, but special mentions to a few of you who supplied highly capable alternative reasons for this particular album being the odd one out.

5 John Thomson / The Stone Roses / Ralf Little / Caroline Aherne ??

A. = JOHN THOMSON. The rest were all in some way directly linked with Peter Hook. Ralf Little played him in 24 HPP, Caroline Aherne was once married to him, The Stone Roses had a single produced by him. Well done to Old Blue for getting that one!

6 Making Out / Reportage / Clocking Off / Common As Muck ??

A. = CLOCKING OFF. The others all had music written by The Other Two or members of New Order. Correctly answered by Old Blue and the Rocket Mickster

7 Regret / (The Rest Of) New Order / Power Corruption & Lies / True Faith ??

A. = (THE REST OF) NEW ORDER. The others all peaked at number 4 in the UK Charts - The Rest Of only getting to no. 5 on its reissue as a companion to (The Best Of) Well done to ShugZV for gettin' this one.

8 Ceremony / Bizarre Love Triangle / Touched By The Hand Of God / Atmosphere ??

A. = CEREMONY. No video made for this single. Correctly answered by Chris Nash.

9 Primal Scream / Flowered Up / The Charlatans / Faith No More ??

A. = FLOWERED UP. The others all had singles or albums sharing titles with New Order album tracks: Primal Scream - Vanishing Point; Charlatans - Weirdo; Faith No More - Angel Dust. Correctly answered by Bart Dupré.

......and so there we have it!!

Honourable mentions must also go to Easy E, Huntsman and Al Jarvis for their valiant attempts at unravelling the answers.

But champion of the entire teaser so far has to be CHRIS NASH for getting three correct answers and three "almost correct" solutions as well into the bargain! Well done that man!

So.....who's going to do the honours and excel themselves in gettin' the final remaining - albeit rather cheeky - poser then?

Here it is again....

10 New Order / Happy Mondays / Joy Division / Revenge ??

Which one is the ODD MAN OUT and why??

Clue: "Chicken In A Basket"

See yers at the finishin' line..... and this time it's final!!! ;)

:smoker: :smoker:

Chicken In A Basket was how Barney referred to Mr Disco, is this something to do with it? Throwaway DISCO track or reference.....Ian also gets mentioned at the end of the song....can't work out the connection ya bastard! But no doubt - I'm probably on the wrong feckin track anyway:lol:

Cheerz me aad marra .... the "revenge" exacted by our Thom is sweet all right - he's only got us runnin' aroond as a result of his clivvor way of gettin' through more nappies per day than ye could shake a rattle at! (check the other thread elsewhere!). And however did ye guess that I had 21 days withoot sleep, man? Are you a psychic now an' all?? ;) :D

Anyway - back ta the nitty gritty - your psychic powers have failed to secure you that elusive last answer unfortunately. Good try though. Looks like all the other buggers have aal but given up on this teaser now...

Well it appears you got the right band - but the wrong reason why it's Joy Division. C'mon everyone, what's wrong with ye all? I disappear for a few weeks and STILL no one has bothered to unravel this last one - Chris Nash - I'm countin' on YOU to clinch this, but you've been conspicuous by your absence here.... ;)

Well I'm not much of a trivia buff by any means - but I've just scoured this thread with interest....

if Joy Division is the right pick could it have something to do with the fact that there were never any dance remixes of Joy Divsion songs? I presume Revenge had some remixes releasedas well.

Actually, I've just remembered...wasn't "Love Will Tear Us Apart" rereleased in 1996 in a new version called "Permenent Mix" ? There was also a new Joy Division compilation around the same time. Maybe that now discounts my earlier answer above.... oh well...

Is the answer anything to do with food? Its a total guess but New Order have a song called Slow Jam, Revenge have Pineapple Face and Happy Mondays have Judge Fudge or even Tart Tart. Therefore the odd one out would be Joy Division.

Well, you could be onto something there Loraine - after all further back a clue was given - it said "Chicken In a basket" - so that suggests something to do with food surely? The signs are that this last answer is a trick answer so we're probably looking at something a bit off the wall... I still think it's something to do with remixes though - it's niggling at the back of my head.

Joy Division - no remixes... surely???

Right - I'll give it another shot... If Joy Division are now the odd ones out, could the reason be that they alone have only had a BOX SET released to date? Seeing as we're still waiting for the definitive New Order one.

Is that answer obvious enough? Or am I pissing in the wind again...?

does this have something to do with the 'kentucky fried chicken' reference in 24 HPP in the factory boardroom, which featured the 'leaders' of revenge, new order and happy mondays, but not joy division, i.e. hooky, barney, and shaun ryder, but not ian? (erm, i think hooky and barney were in that scene  )

"chicken in a basket"?

A possible (wrong, I know) answer for #10 could be that Revenge is the only single-word band name.

And now, some people are coomin' up with some reet howlers....

Yeah - that's the one that's nagging at the back of my mind too - after all, Ian's dead isn't he?

All of the other bands have survivning members.

Bloody cliffhangers.,eh?

:(

Right, another stab at reasoning. if it's not remixes than it must be something else. the reason I think it might have somethinng to do with Ian Curtis is when the phrase Chicken in a basket was mentioned, someone else suggested "casket" - so that's coffin = dead.

So Joy Division HAVE to be the odd band out because their lead singer is no longer with us - whereas the other bands (assuming they were still together) still have surviving lead singers. Hell, that sounds so bloody obvious you know i'm not even sure if even that's correct, but it was hinted that this answer is a sneaky one. So is that it then?

Okay then. My pc is now fixed after 3 whole sodding weeks, so I'll have one last go at Q10.

Answer: Joy Division

Reason: All the others have sort of 'split' then got back together in various guises, relying on their previous releases, connections, etc. to cover their own songs 'live'. The Chicken in a basket clue being that many 'cabaret' acts do similar things once their fame has sort of waned slightly.

Plus, New Order are becoming more like a cabaret act live - note Steve Morris' 'ba-dum-chit' drum rolls whenever Barney or Hooky make some funny/clever/stoopid comment between songs...

If that's not the correct answer, then I give up.

:jump:

Well, I only happened across it a few weeks ago but i'm damned if im going to give in just yet, cos it looks like a few possible answers are in the offing here. Do you know anything about this last one perchance?

You've got the right end of the stick there Dave. :) Heck - you're pretty damned close as a matter of fact!....

Extremely commendable stab there Chris!! I'm reet impressed with ya! In fact, if I combine your answer there with the last one Dave posted there, ye've more or less clinched it....

AWREET then.......this is what it should have been:

JOY DIVISION have to be the odd band out because the other three bands would still have at their disposal all their original/surviving members (assuming Shaun Ryder doesn't cop it from his drug habit one day that is). So technically ALL THREE of those bands could still reform with all their original members intact to do the "cabaret" circuit if they so wanted to. Okay - so New Order have "ungrouped" many times before, but we're talking "theoretical" here. So, in reality, Joy Division could NEVER reform cos of the obvious fact that Ian isn't there.

Right - that's the end of the sneaky Question 10 saga solved once and for all!

AT LAST!! .... THANK FOOK FER THAT!!

:jump: :jump:

Allow me to thank everyone - even the newcomers - for persevering with this bastard of a teaser (blimey - four months old it is noo!), you've all been greet sports!
