I'm far more excited about the promise of the Barney/Stuart Price synth album than I was about the Bad Lieutenant album. Les Rhythmes Digitales/Jacques Lu Cont/Thin White Duke versus Sumner sounds like a winning ticket - we could get the best instrumental tunes since Barney's Electronic/New Order b-side peak from '88 to '92. Them two could come up with some very sweet house/electro. Hopefully of the "Free Will" "M.T.O" "Lucky Bag" "Theme from Best & Marsh"-type calibre.
It's gonna be wicked...

I hope it fares much better than what was done with those...

arent the songs youve listed mostly steven morris/gillian compositions i.e. best and marsh?

If Bernard was going to explore synth territory of a more avant garde nature, along the lines of Boards of Canada or even Ladytron, I might be interested, but sadly I think it will be along the lines of stuff that featured on the last album, such as guilt... told you so etc. Which, to be honest, are hardly earth shatteringly original.

Yup. Many composed and recorded for UK TV series along with "Other Two" tracks.

Weird one this - for me anyway.
Bernard's recently come out in the press saying that he wouldn't do a retro electro style thing, and for him electronic music was always about not reinventing the past, and Blue Monday and EGG at the time were certainly examples of this. So, basically he said that he couldn't release something that evoked New Order in the early 80s - he physically couldn't do it.
Given Stuart Price's position on the dance spectrum - not exactly left of centre - his remix of Depeche Mode's Wrong was commercial trance, as was Guilt... on WFTSC, we'll probably get something a bit too polished.
I think that Blue Monday and EGG were and still are very futuristic sounding pop records - and let's face it, there's nowt much out there that comes close.
I'd settle for an updating of the Italo sound

The wickest tracks, actually, in my book. They're mostly technological fillers. But I am indeed excited about Bernard actually playing synth.

They've never officially been released.
It would have been cooler if Steve and/or Gillian were involved also. I find Gillian has always been underrated. New Order's music has always had that 'extra sparkle' that Electronic's music never had. When she left,it seemed like they had lost that...
Er.. funny, because some people hated Jetstream and Guilt is a Useless Emotion, both products of Stuart Price.
Let's wait and see.
Free Will, Lucky Bag and Best & Marsh are 3 of my fave new order-related tracks.
I would love to see them do more similar, but I can't see them revisiting that late 80s/early 90s dance sound.
Especially working with Stuart Price - I hope they do something good, but 'Jetstream' is the only NO song I don't like.
Well I'd like to hear more synth driven Sumner tracks, I'd more than likely buy them. Bernard has always said he loves dance music, I'm assuming when he says "synth" he means dance, I may be wrong.
Electronic's first album was so refreshing when it was released, I loved it.
I'd rather hear Bernard work with M83, a 2000s guy who sounds like an '80s guy, than Stuart Price, a '90s guy who sounds like a '90s guy.

well at least if they do instrumental tunes as you say, then we wont have any of Barney's recently very questionable lyrics...

I really like the production work Stuart Price did on Madonna's Confessions on a Dance Floor. Brilliant I think.
BUT...I love M83 and it would be cool to see him and Sumner work together. I saw M83 at the Wex here in Columbus in July....show was fantastic and ended when a bunch of people, inlcuding myself, rushed the stage and daned onstage with the band, until the security threw us off. Met they keyboardist afterwards and she was a total sweetheart.

Excellent point. I didn't know about Price producing Jetstream. It's one of the worst tracks. The remixes were great although.

He didn't remix Wrong. He remixed A pain that I'm used to under his Jac Lu Cont tag and it was shit.

I just hope they produce an album of instrumental electronica and don't write too many "proper" songs with dodgy lyrics and token electro-rock drivel. Sumner is a master of melody and beats - go and listen to the Free Will (extended 12") again, absolute bliss, probably my favourite Electronic song...and Marr's guitar is sublime. Despite people's reservations about the dodgy remixes for $$$ he's done I reckon Price collaborating with a musical savant of Sumner's calibre will pay dividends. Sumner needs someone to coax all that stored up dance music he's got crackling around in his turnip and I'm optimistic it'll be Jacques Lu Cont

Nothing against Stuart Price... I love a lot of his stuff. M83 excites me more, though, 'cause he/they manage to really tap into that circa '84 sound when New Order was most exciting (to me, at least).
If you haven't heard Price's remix of Gwen Stefani, give it a listen: it's like it was lifted straight off the first Electronic record (and you can almost hear Hooky too). Beats the snot out of Jetstream in my book.
(Even if you can't stand Gwen, stick around for at least a minute to hear the it's-1983-again FM-7 bells. Getting Away With It, indeed!)
I'd like to see Barney, or NewOrder if ever fixed, work with DFA/James Murphy. I hear LCD Soundsystem and I think, THIS is what NO should sound like today. Live/programmed drumming; synths, not computers; great guitars...but mostly SPACE in the music, great builds.

Uh, yes he did remix "Wrong" under his Thin White Duke guise. See the Discogs entry here. But the remixes aren't that great. While I don't like Stuart's productions normally, I will admit that I enjoyed his remixes of DM's "A Pain That I Am Used To" since he mixed in Hooky's bass from "Jetstream."

I'm looking forward to this. In this month's Uncut magazine Barney states he has recorded an electronic ep but has not decided whether to release it under the Bad Lieutenant name or not yet. Wonder if this is the Stuart Price stuff? I love the Thin White Duke mix of Coldplay's 'Talk', one of their few decent tracks.

BL were always going to be a letdown, I'm trying to get into the album - the first half's pretty good but it kind of flags after that.
