it's actually a self-portrait of the band done by Barney...he isn't at all artistically inclined, now is he?

Well actually he is! He did the design for the "An Ideal for living" EP and he used to work in an animation company in the very early JD days.

It's such a long time I didn't even recognise the old place - it seems there's some news there and what looks like a 'slick new design'. Gosh that cover really is a blinder, reminds me of 'Penthouse and Pavement'. Are we to judge the contents from the painting-by-numbers cover?
Can someone explain to me what this "Back To Mine" release is all about eh?? first i've heard of it!!

Back To Mine is a mix done by various artists who choose their favourite late night tracks, the sort you'd play after a club, they normally include a couple of their own tracks too.
The last was done by Orbital and is v good but not what you'd expect at all. The Faithless one is good too.
Re: The album cover
Most (if not all) of the Back To Mine releases have similar types of album art. Check out the art to the Morcheeba and Orbital one. Kinda, sorta similar.
Other then that, I think it's a very interesting concept to have bands/artists mix together an album of songs they like.

I think "BTM" is fantastic: all over the place and great fun with it. AND I like the sleeve; just a pity there's no Gillian........

Definetly penthouse and pavement influence there. Just like doves TLB looks a hell of a lot like World.

Yes I believe that all the band members have input on what songs will appear on the record.

I don't get the whole Back To Mine thing... could someone explain it to me? I just can't see wasting precious music buying funds to purchase this dreck. Am I missing it? Could someone explain it to me...
The basic concept behind the Back To Mine series is artist are given the opportunity to compile tracks together that they like, stuff that's in their record collection, maybe influenced them in some way etc.. into one mix. Stuff that you can chill-out after a night at the club. Makes for some interesting mixes.
I rather like the concept, get to hear music that some of your favorite artists are listening to. Particularly the Morcheeba mix, alot stuff I had not heard before.

In theory it sounds good, but in reality it would seem like bands would just pick really odd off the wall things for the sake of appearing enlightened. Instead of just creating a CD with songs that they really liked regardless of what other people might think. Most of the tracks on many of the albums seem like they would fall into that category... I understand it would be hard to know how authentic the collection would be... I am just launching a hypothesis.
I only own the Morcheeba mix so I can only comment on that one. I am postive that Paul Godfrey mixed songs that he really did liked. Tracks from Jim White (who they toured with), New Kingdom & Lambchop (both who have members appear on Morcheeba albums). Also in the cd booklet, Paul had some brief comments regarding the tracks.
You may have something there Wolfmann but I think that the songs that these artists compile they truely like.

Yeah, I can be pessimistic at times... I may give it a listen some day, but I won't buy it without hearing it first. Anyone know why there is no ACR on it? I thought that ACR was a big influence on them?
My copy arrived yesterday! After a 575mile round trip with work it was great to arrive home with a present waiting for meto chill to. Straight on the player with it- superb. God some of those tracks from the Hac nights bring back memories! Enjoy.
