Yeah, pretty good tune - lyrics a little inferior, but not bad. Think it's a Get Ready leftover, but not sure
To pad out the WIFM 2002 re-release CD Single they included Such A Good Thing; NO's theme for BBC Radio 5 Live's World Cup coverage. Not sure if it was written specifically for them or if it was an old tune lying around.
The lyrics are obviously pretty footie orientated and it's got a shedload more keyboards than most of Get Ready but still retains a pretty loud Hooky riff all the way through. Despite the lyrics, I quite like it. I think it was definitely recorded post-Get Ready.

I've always really liked this song, even with the lyrics. I think pretty much all of NO's Get Ready era material is very good.
Player in the league is the one from the Get Ready era. Such a good thing is way older than that.

Best experienced as the short 30 second intro for Radio 5 Live's World Cup coverage in 2002.Nothing more than that. Although the keyboards at the end are quite nice

agreed, fantastic outtakes. Wish they performed them live then.
Superb track, considering the vintage. Classic mix of guitar and keyboard along with Monaconian levels of Hooky bass. Yes, the lyrics are a bit fruity but at least Barney sounds inspired.
Simply, if you love World in Motion, you will love Such A Good Thing. If not, then definitely it's not your cup of tea.
i always thought it wasnt a bad little ditty. bettr than world in motion which is to damn with faint paraise, but for a b side i thought it was pretty good, but i always seemed to be in the minority. also the reissue of the w i m t shirt was shit, not a patch on the original (which i never managed to get a hold of) tried to get a dry in motion t shirt of a member of staff in dry but to no avail.
I love 'Such a Good Thing'. If you like your music miserable it will irritate you. Keep in mind it's just a b-side written for television. Keep your expectations low.
It's a nice little B-side. Different. Disposable. A footnote in NO/JD history. At least it's better than Rock the Shack.

Personally, I did like it back in the day but the lyrics are admittedly shite. It's easy to take out of context but "at the time" it was all Get Ready grinding guitars and no keyboards and this was the first track since then to home in on synths and change the style a bit.
I don't think it's as bad as some people would bang on. All the key elements are there; hyperactive drums, dubious lyrics, waves of keyboard and very loud Hooky bass. When you think about it those aspects generally define a great deal of the finest New Order songs but this track tends to get a bit more stick.
For me, New Order always fell down (quality-wise) when they specifically wrote a song for any cause.... best kept vague. Actually scratch that, I really like the Saville Soundtrack as it's good to listen to in the bath but that was only Hooky and Steve wasn't it?

I gave them the benefit of the doubt on this one. It was Vietnam that ended it for me (although WFTSC has a few decent tracks for the biased listener).

I like WFTSC a lot, but I must admit that it could have been much better if it was better mixed
Turn is in my Top 5 songs from NO, and WFTSC (the song) is also fantastic IMO
