New Limited Edition Book launched last night. Only 100 produced and I was lucky enough to get in on the action. The book is 188 pages in arty A4 design, written by Dec Hickey who followed the band and did almost every gig from 1981-1984, something like 87/88 gigs. These memoirs come from the original Vikings and it was a pleasure to meet up with some of them last night. Massive thank you to Dec for putting on a great night and a big hello to Budge & Isaac. Of the later day Vikings me and the mrs were joined by Nickos Kingos & Steve, hope ye's made it home safely. I had a quick look at the book in ma hungover state this morning, it looks fucking brilliant, I will do a proper review when I've sobered up and read it. Hooky was on top form as well

David, unfortunately no books available as far as I am aware. I think all 100 copies were snapped up, which is not a surprise as it's a real collectors item. Not sure exactly who was on the list, but I'd suspect all the Bedford Crew who did all the gigs and possibly band/management/road crew have copies and a few of the Vikings. I was just glad to be asked. Dec was a fine host and a great time was had by all in attendance. I have only flicked through the book so far, gonna take my time and digest it properly next week. So I'll put up a review after I've finished it. Hopefully there will be a different format of the book available for everyone in the future, but I can't speak on behalf of the author, so fingers crossed. I can say that there are loads and loads of pictures taken by Dec and a blow by blow account of 1981-1984. Plus snippets of gigs between 85 till the end of the gigs. As I say, I will try and do a serious review once I've finished it

Had a great time on friday night,good to meet with a few other NOOLs. Shug,thanks for the viking pin and pleased that you found out about this event and got a book. Had a chat with Hooky who says Freebass are ready for live dates anyday now! Hope Nick got his train ok,shame he had to leave so early.

The books a real gem. Dec has hinted that he might go for another print run,but this could take a little time.

Damn. This looks like a real gem. Hopefully there will be a second print run. I would love to get hold of this. Maybe show us a few scans of the pics? Wouldn't be surprised to see this on ebay shortly.. Hooky is a star; he is so nostalgic and always keen to sign and chat to us punters. God bless him! :shades:

Look forward to reading your review SHUG.Cheers for sending this to me.Only glimpsed at it yet but it is SUBERB.Not seen many fans tribute books.The amount of detail and the pictures are bloody fantastic.Love the picture of all the TAPES of concerts.This reminds me i still have aprox 100 of your tapes mate! :eek: This is going to take some time to read so better warn TOCK.The clock is ticking.Time is waiting in the wings...he speaks of senseLESS things...his TRICK is you and ME Boy. This is such a LARGE book.The detail of the pre gig soundchecks and after gig relaxing by someone who had just got to KNOW the band a few weeks before these gigs is Superb.No other book i have read about them has this feel.Got through about 60 pages and took numerous photos as a reminder of what i have missed both with this BOOK and the actual CRACK that these guys had.I have loved the meet ups of the NOUGHTIES but would have been better in these early days.I have had some great times in the 1980s but following NEW ORDER all over these places is not one i can share.

The gig didn't sell out and there was 750 tickets left over? Always imagined it was a small venue anyway so there must have only been a couple of hundred tickets actually sold or im missing something

I can't remember the story but I think they couldn't get any publicity for it, and then Janice Long (again, I think it was her) finally mentioned it on Radio 1 or summat and they sold loads of tickets the day before the gig?

Maybe they fuct up on the print run too and ordered way over the odds? :laugh:

Yeah the flyer is there on Cerysmatic. The other side is the cover of the book with a couple of quotes on.

I just had an email confirming my order and it says:

"Also, look out for the issue of Uncut magazine due on the streets (UK anyway) approx Jan 4. From Heaven to Heaven has the four page regular Flashback feature. The monthly magazine does have, to some extent, a worldwide circulation so, depending on what part of the world you are in, you might be able to track it down. Freely available in Gauteng, South Africa, I'm told... impressive."

So you might want to order before 4 January 2012.

In regards to the Leicester tickets, I have clarification of events from Dec :

"Back in the early 80s I had a mate who had his own printing biz and always printed the tickets I needed for gigs, parties, club nights etc., and every time he'd print more than I needed. If I wanted 300 for a club night Roger would print 400. And the Leicester gig, one I co-promoted, was no different... only this time on the 1500 tickets required, he did a thousand more. Something always dragged him away from the press. I did think one time of wallpapering a whole wall with the extras, but having moved around too much I scrapped the idea. So, the Leicester ticket(s) that go to the book's first 750 buyers are definite bona fide originals of the complete ticket." Dec

Got my book today and got to say it is fookin superb, I cannot recommend this book high enough for any New Order obsessive. I was on eo fthe lucky 750. Well worth the money. You need this book. More writing in it than i thought which is a good thing. :bow: great forwards and Paul Morely (I know not everybodys cup of tea but I like his writing)sums up why it is we are new order obsessives. The best book about new order ever written well done dec

Hi Mark, I'm behind enemy lines in deepest Lancashire, originally from Solihull.

Not a 'proper' fan anymore as I gave up my season ticket and don't make it to many games, a couple of Northern away games each season, like home matches for me!

It's big isn't it! Tho the original limited run was even bigger ? Find I have to sit at the dining room table to marvel at it, far too heavy to hold for too long. But yeah , amazing book. Fantastic.

...and for those wondering about the numeric synchronicity of the book and the bonus Leicester ticket, the following provdies a little more detail...

"When packaging up the books I'd been including those left over Leicester tickets rather randomly, number-wise, for a little while before I realised I could maybe sort of match some of them up with the number of the book. So some people have got lucky and others haven't. It would have been cool to have been able to do it with the whole lot but From Heaven to Heaven wasn't even an ink blot on any printing press back in May 1984. For those who have the book, some of this was noted within but I still have the Velos 99 numberer I used way back then so I could have numbered all the left over tickets that were still blank to suit... but that would have been sort of altering history or 'what had been'... not good. I also used that numberer on the 300 posters done for the Leicester gig and the 4000 copies of the Rorschach Testing magazine that included the New Order interview reproduced in From Heaven to Heaven. And along with all sorts of parties and club nights and the tickets for the following gigs, it also hammered down on the poster for the second of the two Cabaret Voltaire nights at Bedford Boys Club (150 only), as well as the one done for the Cocteau Twins gig at the same venue, (200 only). So, if it's possible to feel sentimentally attached to a piece of stationery... that's as good as any. It seems, though, the '99' hadn't appeared in time for the tickets to the two Wake gigs I put on in 1983. I scrawled them by hand, but Caesar, quite rightly, won't have been too bothered by this apparent lack of attention to detail. Dec"

Surely there will be more copies, but only the first 750 will come with the tickets and handsigned by Dec, who BTW, did a marvelous work with this book.
