Yep, I am up for the weekend. Not gonna bother with all the screenings of Control/Joy Division/24hr PP as I have seen em all many times over, though I would like to attend the shows before and after which gives insights to the films etc with special guest panels etc...
The main reason for going without a doubt though, was for the Plan K screening. Cannae wait!!!
I think I'm right in saying that me and Col will be in the closest pub to the venue throughout the Saturday if anyone fancies a shandy or two

Im coming up for the Plan k film and exhibition on sunday,im sure ive seen some of this gig at a factory night in 1982, we shall see. sadly not staying in mac central, sat night.

And it's a 15 minute train ride from Stoke. I will try and get up there and see it before it finishes!
Whoooopeee! I'm creaming meself with excitement - I only teach at the college nearby anyway. Guess I'll have to don my disguise and visit the exhibition and have a long gander!

For all those who will be about the morra, we should definitely be in a pub near the venue no later than 2, I've not had the pleasure of a beer with Gene, Geno, 79 Order and By Eck, if any of ye's fancy it, gies a bell or drop me a text....then we can tell you what pub we're in and that it's your round.
For those that weren't there or those that haven't heard already.....
Saw the exhibition first of all on the lower floor - I'm of the opinion that Ian's letter to Rob is actually a jokey contract - they have 3 pics supposedly of Paradiso but one of them is definitely from Bristol - but quite impressive. Print stampers from "Still", an original Arrow Sounds cassette of the RCA album, loads of other stuff.....
Anyway - after waiting for the people upstairs to finish their church service, approx 70-80 of us filed into the upstairs hall. One of the organisers introduced the event, closely followed by Jon Savage. Both stressed that the event should not be filmed due to its sensitivity. Jon added that the Malcolm Whitehead film will never be shown as the band objected to his use of Hitler's voice on the showing - even though it was in regard to consumer fascism - and the "No City Fun" film equally will never be shown, bizarrely due to lawyers pointing out that owners of shops screened at that time could still sue for unauthorised filming - 30 years on!!!!!
The screening was to be the complete gigs of Plan K and the two Manchester Apollo shows.
Plan K began - the sound was below broadcast standard - but we knew that anyway - Barney didn't seem to have woken up musically till the 4th song - Close ups of Ian staring trancelike during "24 Hours" were deeply affecting.
At the end of "Shadowplay" the video stopped. I thought this was a natural end for a second and that the Apollo gigs wouls appear. Phil C next to me pointed out that Plan K had another three songs to go, on which I suddenly noticed that the side lights in the hall were all now off.
After nervous chatter and joking - "This is the crisis we knew had to come" etc.....the organiser said that there was a power cut - the rest of the building was OK and that things should resolve in about 10 minutes.
Jon Savage came onstage about 15 minutes later to annouce that the show was over - the road workers outside had gone through two power cables - the organisers were furious and are threatening to sue the council - and people could give their numbers for refunds!!!!!
I suggested to one of the staff that we could keep on to our tkts for a rescheduling - she informed me that this couldn't be the case as due to council cutbacks the main organiser was being made redundant today!!!!!
A little group of us went off to see 77 and Ian's grave. On the way back Shug received a text saying Stephen Morris was at the Heritage Centre trying to get something sorted. When we arrived back at the Heritage Centre we'd found that Stephen had gone to have Sunday lunch with his mum, but if this hadn't been arranged he was willing to have the lot of us down at his place to see the film! Stephen had said that him and Barney would try to arrange a re-screening - can't see Barney being interested.....
So - if and when it gets rescheduled I'll give the nod - my number is with the organisers.....

after breaking me neck traveling up from Bognor yesterday, to stay overnight at a lovely pub..i waited at the front , the guys introducing were very sweet,, and the............FUCK ME ,, what a sound,, to see Ian sing 24 hours,, insight, so what if it wasnt broadcast standards, this was raw and hot, so many close ups of ian and his movements,,,it was all i could do to sit still,, then just nothing... we were offered the refund from a guy made redundant on friday,, m8 id rather twat the prick who cut it and cost me £200,, fot the weekend..
after seeing the Atrocoity exhibition i got chatting to steve who had been told it started at 2,,didt realise that he had mixed the sound from what"sounded like a phnmatic drill"and to clean further"would cost a lot of money"although noises had been made about a possible release Warners dont seem to keen, though steve is keen to get out all the Joy Division film stuff in one go, though one guy is asking stupid money for his film,, next year maybe then,, as for a rescreaning,,,well name the later date.
Today I saw Joy Division live ,, Fuck me they are so Awesome , i had tears in my eyes.

Oh dear... glad I didn't make the 10 minute journey to the Heritage Centre... this is typical Factory, JD, NO propaganda.... I will take in the exhibition this week. Unknown Pleasures.... Unknown unknowns...
Amazing weekend overall. Such a shame that the footage stopped just as it got going. Thought the Plan K lighting was amazing. Wonderful to see Ian perform for longer than the brief snippets usually seen. Topped the weekend by meeting the legendary Dec Hickey who is a lovely bloke from far at the opposite end of New Order to me. Had a nice chat with Steve, really enjoyed the Q&A session on the Sat and the exhibition downstairs. Such a shame it had to end early - the organisers were clearly as fed up as us. Hopefully it will be seen again in some way or another - there is certainly the will to do it, and hopefully they have seen that there are still people who would appreciate the effort it will take.
Above all the conversations, revelations and emotions of the weekend one thing struck me. Joy Division were a very good band, worth ever bit of the attention they still receive and Ian Curtis was a remarkable performer.
At these things, someone always asks what would have happened if Ian had lived. I've seen Steve try to answer this one before and he manfully tried again on Saturday. His face contorted as he wrestled with the enormous concept again. What if. He settled on 'it would have been like New Order with more words', which got a warm laugh. But it's nice to sit and contemplate how different things may have been, to explore the various possibilities.
One more thing that Steve said that will stay with me was when someone asked for one memory of Ian that defines him best of all. He told a lovely story about how each time he dropped him off after a gig, at any time of the night, Ian would disappear into the house and slam the door behind him only to reappear a minute later being dragged to the park by a large dog called Bingo.
Hey and in response to one brilliant question, Steve said that the bit in Control where an aerosol is used to augment the snare on She's Lost Control was actually TRUE. Mostly. It was actually a can of solvent-based tape head cleaner and Steve himself was shut into a recording booth to 'play' it, despite unbearable fumes.
Of course he could have been joking.
He also told me a great story about dragging a pissed fan back to his house from Stockport, but I'm not going to repeat it

Amazing to see it done with such care by people who do it for the love of JD not the love of money, amazing job.
and people say never meet your heroes, well their hero isn't Stephen Morris, never fails to amuse. Also, excited to hear that it may get a release, only maybe though
Cracking weekend, one is still very much suffering for one's art though.
GUTTED we didnae get to see the last 3 songs from Plan K and didnae see any of the Apollo shows, after searching for the holy grail of Joy Division stuff since I've been 14/15 I was distraught.
Fookin council workers cut the power lines outside, so it was no fault whatsoever of those who put on the exhibition, just another cruel twist of fate. I just hope those that made the effort to turn up will get another chance to see the stuff.
The sound wasnae the greatest, but we all knew that and I thought it wasn't half as bad as the scare stories I'd heard, so well done for the editing Steve, the visuals were absolutely magic, was truly honored to be at the screening. Big thanks to Steve & Gillian for the photie opportunity on Saturday night, gotta say that Steve had us in stitches for what seemed an age, Col's already mentioned a couple of the stories.
I will post pics sooner or later, gotta say a massive thanks to Col & Megan, we had a great time. Also to Jem for being an absolute star, coming over from Bolton just to catch up and share a few beers and a new order sing song in the pub. Donna sends you her best and says yer welcome to stay with us whenever you want.....for however long you want! We havnae laughed so much in donkeys.
Also to Sean (Gabriel Glee) who posts on Joy Division Central who was great at sharing all the info on the exhibitions and the Macc walk as well as many other stories from New Order days. Top man. Always a pleasure to meet up with Wolfram who came with us on the walk after the power lines were cut and also kept us company in the pub with Phil (Digital) and Julie, great to see you guys as well. Also great to see Monty and Geno on the morning of Plank K and John Cooper of Cerysmatic, also had a quick word with Dec and Budge of the Bedford Boys, then there was Iain and Kev who were also there for Plan K before heading off to see BSP in Penrith, then there was Tock who has sent me so many Neworder pressies in the past I've lost count - say hello to Peter for us mate. Big hello to Lee who has posted above, first time I've met Lee and he was a diamond, will send you your pics soon mate. Hope I havmae forgot anyone, but knowing me I definitely will have.
We went back to the exhibition today to get a poster for my mate who sorted me with tickets and bumped into a battered and bruised ATR/Stash/Alex delete as appropriate, he had a fight with a bus and the bus won. Good to see you as well mate.
It was a bit of a Planes, Trains and Automobiles type of journey for me, but definitely worth it.
Met everybody in the beer garden of the pub opposite the exhibition. Spent the first hour having a civilised chat with Shug, Donna and Steve then it descended into carnage. It ended up with us necking shots with a load of blokes from Copenhagen and meeting at least 8 other locals - Macclesfield folk are nuts!
Had such a laugh. Remember Shug and Steve asking if we wanted to go over to the exhibition, but we didn’t as we were having so much fun in the beer garden. Shug returned later and informed me that Steve and Gillian were across the road. I sprinted over the road and up about 10 flights of stairs to meet them, but they’d gone. So it was back to the pub.
Alex had ANOTHER fight with a bus? He’s getting good at that.
Oh and if anybody is going this week, could you pick me up one of those exhibition programmes – think they’re about £1-2. If somebody could get me one and post it to me, I will reimburse you fully and be very grateful.
I must admit that I wish that I had met this Steve bloke when I was in the pub with you, Shug and Donna. I thought your's and Donna's barnstorming rendition of 'You're So Vain' was one of the highlights of the day. Were you singing about this Steve character perhaps? I have also to say that Shug is something of a saint in his support of Donna's almost biblical alleigance to all things New Order and I was only too happy to take a few moments to talk to him about Take That and other things closer to his heart.

Great pics Shug! I went today. Congratulations to all involved. Couldn't help feeling a little underwhelmed... No pomp etc.. Typically northern and perhaps what Ian himself would've been comfortable with. Some interesting letters and receipts etc. Also the original artwork prototypes were nice to see. Shame it was separate to Hooky's exhibition at The Factory. Combining the two would have been preferable to the fans. But hey that's New Order!
It was a fantastic exhibition. I went last Friday pm and spent about 80 minutes hanging about - but managed to avoid encountering ANYBODY who vaguely resembled NOOL forumers...... thank god for that. :)
