To celebrate the creativity and diversity of the UK music scene, Hot Chip, Bernard Sumner and Hot City have collaborated on an exclusive new track for Converse to be released on Wednesday. They will also be featuring in an upcoming music video. Keep your ears open for a series of remixes by other UK artists and check back over the next few weeks for more artist films and information on our Converse music tour.

The collaboration is the start of Converse’s year-long celebration of UK music. A second single, released in January, will feature Paloma Faith, Blur’s Graham Coxon and Bill Rider-Jones, formerly of The Coral, bringing together new acts and musical greats to create something never heard before.

I've often thought a Bernard remix of Hot Chip would be a match made in heaven. Hope this turns out to be as good as I hope it is, if that makes sense?!

I'm really excited to hear this track!

Bernard is keeping busy with new music. :)

I must admit I've never really bothered to listen to Hot Chip, but this sounds interesting.

Marvellous news. The more Bernard leans towards electronic music again, the happier I'll be. Shame it needed a corporate connection, though.

Hottest Record tonight from Hot Chip and New Order, well at least elements of those two fine bands coming together and producing a really loose, organic piece of classic house music. These days, so much of what comes out of studios is strangled by click tracks and quantize so it's nice to hear a four-on-the-floor groove with a lot of freedom. Classy.

The track is called "I Didn’t Know What Love Was"

You can listen to hear it hear, at 19:20 http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00v10fy

Isnt it at 30.20? if so it sounds like a mash up of World and Visit Me. Very 90's and no vox from Barney!!!!!

This instrumental is like the belated sister of Visit me! As was mentioned earlier. I cant wait.

19:20 is Eminem, unless Bernard has been working on his rap flow..

It's alright. Is Bernard singing all of the vocals? Its really does have that Raise the Pressure sound, you half expect Marr's guitar to come in at any moment

Ace track! :thumb:

Gave it a few listenings and it's catchy and phunky as fuck!

here to stay!

Sounds like early nineties housey stuff to me. Could be a direct cross between The Beloved's 'Only your Love Takes me Higher' and a Paris Angels b-side called 'Techno'.

more promising than pretty much all of the stuff he's done for a while though.

same thing for me. it instantly reminded me of The Beloved mixed with Raise The Pressure's era pianos. it's ok but i'm pretty disappointed for the fact that Bernard recycled his own sound of 20 years ago. i was expecting something more... "new"

I listened to "I Didn't Know What Love Was" nonstop as I took the subway to work today, and then nonstop on the way back.

It's a fantastic track! Bernard and Alexis, the singer from Hot Chip, plus the fat bloke from Hot Chip, plus the guy from Hot City (whoever they are), and possibly Steve Morris...is that the right cast for this number?

Song is great. Very, very four to the floor and housey, full of gorgeous piano, synth, and string runs and some footstomping beats. Song has Bernard and Alexis duetting on the choruses and Bernard sings the chorus with Alexis backing him, kind of like Bernard and Neil Tennant on Patience of a Saint and Getting Away With It.

The song definitely has an Electronic vibe and sound. I think the the piano and string parts are Bernard, for sure. And the lyrics have a classic Bernard Sumner line: "What was once a waste is now in a state of grace".

Great song! Look forward to the video. Can Bernard get round to doing that record with Stuart Price now?

Since New Order split, Bernard has done Miracle Cure with Blank and Jones, released the Bad Loo record and toured it, started a dance record with Stuart Price, and now this track...not bad, he is making new music at least.

I actually like it, cos i like that kind of stuff anyways..

shame i can't find the Paris Angels track on youtube cos that has all the piano bits on it.

Both tracks are similar stylistically because they come from the same genre of music, but beyond that, IDKWLW is quite different and far better than the track you posted above, I think...

rose-tinted spectacles, Zachery. And those tracks are twenty years apart.

Yes, I'm aware. I had a cassette single of the Beloved song when I was 11 or 12.

The Sumner/Hot Chip track is better, as its an actual song.

From the Hot Chip Website:

"On Wednesday, October 6th, the first of two original musical collaborations featuring Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris from Bad Lieutenant, New Order and Joy Division, Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard from Hot Chip and 'We Have Remixes' faves Hot City will be released as a free download, followed by the release of the accompanying music video on November 2nd. The track was recorded at Alexis and Joe's home studios and at Real World in Bath last month and was co-written and produced by Alexis, Joe and Bernard."

So Bernard did have a hand in the writing and production (and Steve played on it too, perhaps).

Excited to hear the second song they've done!

Not bad at all. For me it would be one of the weaker tracks on Raise the Pressure - but then I like that album a lot.

I just finally listened to the track (got back internet connection on PC at home after a broken modem), and I quite like it. The intro sounds like an Electronic song. I love this kind of housey-piano-vibe, so this is definitely the kind of song I'd like. Maybe it has a bit of an old school vibe to it, but it's not over the top for me.

Enjoyed that song! Two Bernard releases in 3 days, not bad for the guy who spent three years on Raise The Pressure and it was still crap.

I like that! Good retro sound, and it's a much better lyric than Miracle Cure!

Agree wih Monty, Miracle Cure was good musically but the words were throwaway.

One word: wow!

i am still listening to it nonstop!

After a few more listens it sounds like a mash up of I Feel Better, Visit Me and World. In fact Im sure you could sing "If we could buy it now,how long will it last" over the outro.

Good song though. is it due to be released as a proper single? Im confused, they made a video but its a free download. its great that Barney has got his hands in various projects but they dont seem to get much publicity.

Never Cry Another Tear is one of my favourite Barney related albums ever, but (IMO) i dont know how well it did and I thought Summer Days and This Is Home would have made exellent singles (if marketed well).

rant over.:uhoh:

The physical single is dead, I'm afraid. I don't even remember when I bought my last CDSingle...

I can't make up all the lyrics.:uhoh:  Will anybody help?

This is what I have:

When I met you I didn't know what love was (2x) Now all my lonely nights are through And all my dreams are come true I know ........... And I am in a state of grace When I wake I start to celebrate The truth is just a dawning (?) When I met you etc. You tought me everything I need to know (4x) Now through the hazes shines the sun My way ................. are almost done And .......................... to waste Is now in a state of grace When I wake I start to celebrate I'm just so glad this hour is dawning When I met you I didn't know what love was You tought me everything I need to know

Leather girl, do you know what that line 'I know my name I know my number'can mean? Has it something to do with a telephonenumber?

I certainly hear 'no name', that's why I changed that. Leather girl, do you know what that line 'I know no name I know my number'can mean? Has it something to do with a telephonenumber?

Maybe...then again lyrics are very vague...if Bernard wrote these (or some of it)...it's no wonder we wonder about things like this. I wish the official lyrics were published somewhere. I don't even know what I hear any more.

Me neither. I hear 'my name' in the one and 'no name' in the other version and 'and if this man was laid to waste'can also be 'if this land was laid to waste'. But one thing is clear, i love this song very very very much!

I changed in a previous post 'I know no name I know my number' because it's definitely 'my name', you were right, Leather girl. And it means something like: I know who I am.

I hadnt noticed that. TBTHOG only has 2 chords. Dm and F. Reminds me alot of World and Visit me though.
