Was driving home today and heard Richard Blade babbling on about reunions which led into the following remarks --

this next band from Manchester are in preliminary talks to get back together, early stages, but here is hoping, its New Order and Shellshock.

So....who wants to have it with this statement??

Also note, he stated before that the Smiths reunion would happen in the next few years....

I had no idea who Mr Blade was. So I googled him to discover he is an LA DJ that originally comes from Torquay.

I'd hazard a guess at that being an 'interesting' way to 'link' into Shellshock.

Either that, or he really is 'in the know' and Mr Sumner desperately wants a new yacht.

If I was a betting man, I'd put my money on it being the former rather than the latter though!

I think it's bollocks.

For starters I think it's generally accepted that a Smiths reunion will never happen and there have been god knows how many false announcements over the years perpetrated by similar sources for a superficial headline. If you're counting "The Smiths" as Morrissey/Marr/Rourke/Joyce then yeah, zero chance of a reunion. As is well known Morrissey absolutely loathes Joyce for the court action the drummer brought in the mid nineties and that will never change. Every single solo album since 1994 has had him moaning about high court judges...

A Morrissey & Marr collaboration (a'la Page & Plant in the 90s) is more of a realistic proposition but even then I think the odds of that are well under 50%. Morrissey doesn't need the cash and Marr's too busy joining bands half his age every week. It would probably be shite as well and they probably realise this. I'd be more keen to see Moz rejoining forces with Alain Whyte who co-wrote all of his best solo stuff (Vauxhall, Your Arsenal etc.) and was MIA on his last album.

After four years apart New Order reuniting still looks slim but higher than The Smiths; it's a different band dynamic. Despite the blood letting of 2006/7 and the various comments from both Bernard and Hooky since then I think it's a long way off but definitely more of a chance than The Smiths getting chummy again! Bernard and Stephen (and Phil) continue to work together happily so there's only really one individual to bring back in rather than four separate ones with Moz & co. Better odds straight away.

Checked the Wiki page for this Blade guy and he worked on that MTV "Bands Reunited" show - the same show that supposedly tried to get The Smiths back together (talk about overconfidence) and Morrissey literally ran away from their presenter as fast as he could - good man.

Think we have our answer about the credibility of the claims then...

Most hardcore fans who are realistic would probably never believe that kind of gossip.
