I obviously know there is a difference but what does each group offer and how long have they been going ?

A little explanation of both would be nice for just us normal fans and would be much appreciated.

The Vikings follow New Order, in the main, but a lot - if not all - are boycotting the Troxy as there's no Hooky. Hence the interest in the George instead, where ReOrder have managed to hold onto their bass player. Easy to spot - lot of gingers in the Vikings, and a fair few Scottish accents. Lots of Barbour jackets, flat-caps and prison-white trainers. Look out for anyone sporting Viking merchandise, such as the SS WIKING armband or anything vaguely resembling a swastika (like the band before them there's an unhealthy obsession with the Nazis). And if you see anyone with a horrific facial scar, or a Factory-related neck tattoo, then they're probably a Viking.

Third Battalion align themselves with British Sea Power. They're mostly wrong 'uns. A lot of them carry blades. Big lads, you have to be at least 6'2 to qualify for the Third. Their dresscode is camouflage gear and a fair few are ex forces. They're only showing Saturday to kick-off with the Vikings again. First chance for a proper 'meet' in five years on these shores, although a few of them, including Kevo, their top boy, popped up in a pub next to the Bataclan in October, made a bit of noise, threw a few slaps and chucked a few pint pots about. Fair play to them, took bottle. Just a bit of handbags though really, all brewing up nicely for a proper showdown on Saturday.

Indeed. He's a nutter.

Rumour doing the rounds that he recently went to a Kraftwerk gig in Munich a day early just to have a pop at the 3B at a British Sea Power gig in that City. Bit of a suicide mission if that's true. Proper mentalcase.

Thought that read 62 at first and thought yeah thats about right. Really veteran collection of miscreants comprise the Third but perhaps an even more ancient qualification is required for the Vikings?

i have both a link & a log in but don't tell anyone

heard a rumour that at least two 3B members will be at the george.

vikings came first btw & the 3B nicked the idea of the badges from us

see!

I have seen BSP twice in Cork, both memorable gigs. I Didn't see any sign of the famed/feared :skeptic: Third Battalion though..

3B only pretend to be interested in birdwatching and stuff 'cause their band says they should be. Lightweights.

Just so I understand, Viking and 3B (are both NO fans) that show up at gigs and beat the shit out of each other??? Kinda like soccer hooligans, but New Order hooligans.

Yeah?

Were you at Cypress Avenue in 2005? I was at that. There was a fair few of us over there for that one. Great night.

No, was it a twitch?

New Order are amazing.

British Sea Power suck. They sound like an even whinier Arcade Fire, if that is possible.

So to sum up .To be a Viking you have to be Scottish, wear decent clobber and be handy in a fist fight and to be a Third Battalion member you need to prefer another band that most people havent heard of and like all things anorak?

Pfft. Rodgers isn't even in the Third anymore ;-) And we did have badges before he started making them (altho his are nicer).

So why the fook do British Sea Power fans come to New Order gigs!?!? I guess Get Ready and Waiting For The Sirens Call have some more explaining to do.

I was there,it was amazing, as I said I saw them twice here but Cyprus Avenue was I think the second time... The first time I saw them they had t-shirts and badges on sale, very well organised even then.

I think you're allowed to like more than one band!

I first saw New Order in 1984.

I saw British Sea Power three times this year and I like them. By the way if the vikings would play football against 3rd battalion, I think, the vikings would win.

That's an interesting one, I can imagine a few 'tasty' tackles going in! Perhaps we should've organised a lunch-time match for Saturday. Another time, maybe.

Count the Corby Order in for this. As for the tasty tackles, I relish the opportunity of taking the piss, even at 36 I throw down the challenge that none of your lot would get close enough. There's only one Zico Voller :thumb:

I am indeed and looking forward to it. After my brief history lesson I conclude I would see myself most definitely a viking out of the two groups. I am most certainly Scottish but come in just under 6"2 so maybe not got the height and appreciate the importance of good wardrobe.Ill let the Third Battalion mark my fist fighting skills after the gig

I am however going to give the British Power Sea a listen just out of fairness :blackeye:

Well it is when you've inked yourself with the name.

How many 3B tattoos are in existence? Reckon some of them might have the image of an owl or a piece of bracken tastefully placed on their inside bottom lip.

Gary Neville likes BSP and could be conscripted into the Third for the day. That would make for an interesting series of tasty encounters.

This isn't a one off either.

The 3Bs presented one of their top lads 'Northern Pete' (deemed a suitable differentiator as all the other 3B Pete's are middle class southern dandys no doubt) with a cake adorned with 50 candles to commerate his 50th gig. Next time I asked after him it was "oh he's left".

3B is a phase that some need to go through. Like comics.

Was he fuck. At least, thats what I've been told by a few people. Kevo would surely know more than I would.

He was at the Leicester gig in October. Well, he was stood in the entrance to the venue when we all came out. But from what I understand he refuses to go anymore. I dont know if he watched any of the Leicester gig, but as there was no checks on tickets, personally I'd be surprised if he didnt have a peak in.
