What do you think? I bought it some time ago and like it

but also the bloke at HMV said the record Co. were ending the line for it and you wouldn't be able to buy it brand new anymore....anyone know why?

You LIKE it? Yer one of very few that do Danny boy;)

The songs that weren't too far away from the originals (perfecto mix etc...) are all ok, but what about the rest of the album.....Age Of Consent and all the others are just noise, if you listen really, really, really carefully, you might just about pick up one note from the original song......with Guy Fawkes night just around the corner, I suggest that everone who owns a copy, shoves it straight on the top of the bonfire.

Welcome to the site by the way:D

And if you post a thread or reply and make a mistake....click the edit button on the message you have just done, this way you can change it, and no-one will know:thumb:

Dan, fair play mate, everyone's entitled to their opinion, I disagree with people quite a lot on here:lol:

As a stand alone remix dance album, it's not THAT bad. Confusion certainly got attention when Blade came out. World, Ruined, tbthog, and regret are pretty good. 1963 and age of consent scream garbage though.

you may be able to answer my next question then....that confusion mix that was on Blade, sounds alot like 'Wink' a higher state of conciousness, is the confusion mix took from that song? I'm not sure when the 'wink' track came out....but wasn't it 1995 when the (rest of) came out

i never wink before. perhaps someone who has can answer.

Well......I dusted it off the other day and it's not half as bad as I remember. I only skipped BLT and Confusion. True Faith, Ruined, TBTHOG and Regret are all pretty good examples.

Having said that, it'll probably be another seven years before I play it again.

I played it once when I got it, hated it and haven't touched it since. Seeing as I'm going the the collection again I might subject myselg to it soon.

Havent ever bothered getting 'rest of' i guess if i see it in a sale somewhere i may pick it up, but not having it is nothing i regret....

I used to have 'best of' but left it round someones house about 4 years ago!! again i hardly feel im missing out!!

The Rest of New Order should have been titled:

'Filthy'

That way the consumer has no doubt as to the content. Unless filth means good nowadays. Like M. Jackson's play on words Bad = Good.

Either way this album represents the single worst NO/commercial/flog a very much alive horse moment in history.

Let it never be repeated ... please.

"Higher State Of Consciousness" came out twice. Summer '95 was the first time, don't think it charted. The "Dex and Jonesy Remix" version came out at the start of '96 and went Top 10.

I can't describe how terrible the CD is without resorting to a mathmatical equation:

(rest of New Order + me + an ability to hear + CD actually playing)/patience + duration of playing(volume) = time before death

I've been thinking about it...

Let's see the tracklisting:

World (perfecto mix) - good Blue Monday (hardfloor mix) - not bad True Faith (shep pettibone mix) - excellent Confusion (pump panel reconstruction mix) - nothing to do with the song Touched by the Hand of God (biff & memphis remix) - not bad Bizarre Love Triangle (armand van helden mix) - piece of junk Ruined in a Day (k-klass remix) - excellent Regret (fire island mix) - excellent Age of Consent (howie b remix) - piece of junk Spooky (magimix) - good

Why have we been brainwashed that this album suck? Probably because of the new material on it, (Confusion, Age of Consent & BLT), the only good one in those new remixes is the TBTHOG remix.

Beside that, they are all good!

... or because the tracks are so looong. You are right about the individual quality of the remixes but try to listen this album from the beginning to the end without fast-forwarding through the tracks.

No brainwashing involved, my ears were just open and the crap flowed in - tracks VERY repetative and VERY boring. The whole album completely lost the original NO spirit of pretty much every song. If should have been called a techno tribute to NO called something like "In A Clubby Place" or "Sacrimony" (combination of sacreligious and Ceremony) or (waste of) New Order... anyone else have some clever album titles?

It's quite pleasant, since you ask. Makes me appreciate bits of the original that I hadn't really "heard" before.

I like this album actually. The only tracks I ever skip are Bizarre Love Triangle and Age Of Consent (but I didn't care for the original AoC much either). I think every band should have a remix album, and New Order did not too bad. They could have replaced a few mixes though (ex. Spooky (Stadium Mix), Regret (New Order Mix)... Yeah).

World - Amazing actually. 1st time I heard it, was blown away. Blue Monday Good, but loses something here. True Faith True Faith without the original drums isnt True Faith. Confusion - Hard and anger-enhancing. I like it. Touched by the Hand of God - Best remix around. Bizarre Love Triangle - Ok, this one is bad I guess. Ruined in a Day - Really good in my op. Regret - Should have been the New Order mix of Regret instead. Age of Consent - Icky. Spooky - Not bad. Everything's Gone Green - What the Hell? Temptation - Nice tune, but not the same song.

So that's my opinion..

Speaking of remixes, has anyone heard Love Will Tear Us Apart (Trouser Enthusiast Mix)? It's really good. I'd put it on (the rest of) JoyDivision if they ever make it.

:smoker: <~~~~ stoopid enough to have two copies of the limited edition and one of the normal edition. And what utter crap they both are. I'd still prefer any track from them to any single in the current charts.

I mean i have two copy of the rest of, the limited edition with the metallic cover and the normal one with the white cover.

No i'm not stupid enough to buy the limited edition twice :nono:

I wasn't stupid enough to buy this once to be honest - cos i heard some of these remixes being played on various radio stations and they all sounded wretched.

Talk about sacrilege indeed.

Can't we just remove all the posts on this thread, sample a vacuum cleaner sound, then have it play when people click on the thread link... 'cause this album sucks! Also, the vacuum cleaner sound would be worth more.

The Dave Clarke remix of Everything's Gone Green is decent. Why wasn't the Richie Hawtin remix of Blue Monday included, is my question.

Does anybody know why:

"19.6.93 (heart symbol) 17.7.94"

is written down the inner spine of the CD artwork?

I've heard that this is a reference to the marriage date of Gillian and Steve.

That was the period that i took over on keyboards and occasional cowbell and witnessed the band tear apart for 8 years after barney forgot to put sugar in hooky's tea. That's why ruined in a day has the lyric:

"Listen, i may be wrong but you'll listen. There's something wrong you could say, hooky forgot the sugar"

i can't believe that people cant take "the rest of" for what it is..... a "remix" record... and have not some of you people noticed and heard of ACID HOUSE, the post house scene, drum and bass, so callled "IDM", the rave culture of the last decade! some of these remixes are older, some were given to then hot current remixers at the time, some of them did not seem to take it very seriously thou...

  1. World, a remix that is better than the lazy dated (even at that time, the album version is very flawed) S.Hague version ... an very good pop song
  2. Hardfloor's Blue Monday, a remake in the German acid house style, quite good and interesting, you can tell that the two Hardfloor guys had great respect for the song... 3)True faith... this is the classic 1987 remix that pounded on dancefloors everywhere in 1987... 4)Confusion.... obviously the remixer had no interest in the origiinal song whatsoever, so made a driving "confusing" hard acid track, i like it, very minimal... 5)Touched... remixer idea didn't quite work out, got a check for it anyway, so they had to do something with it 6)Bizarre... this is a bizarre remix... have to listen to it again.... did Armand hate the song or something? ... remixer idea didn't quite work out, got a check for it anyway, so they had to do something with it 7)Ruined... a remix from the original single... ehh, its okay and nice i guess... were chillin' now on the "backside" of the record 8)Regret... this a very nice post-early 90's housey remix from the original single, very nice mood track... 9)Age of Consent... Howie B ...err.. an experimental take that doesnt work all that well, thats why it it hidden next to last... remixer idea didn't quite work out, got a check for it anyway, so they had to do something with it 10)Spooky... a rather boring track in all versions

a rather mixed bag, but not terrible....

and why did they leave off the Clarke everythings gone green? he was one of the hottest producers at the time, more similar to the new order style... and i guess they didint like the Hawtin version of Blue Monday, in the early to mid 90's, hawtin was probably the best and most intelligent acid house producer... and how come NONE of the remixes from the Technique singles show up... very Chicago/Detroit acid hosue style... in retrospect these remixes are very cool..

Rob, the main rub is that New Order called the album 'The Rest of NO' which is deemed 'The Rare NO Material we've Never Released'. If they'd called the album 'Fans Beware, this is DJ tripe for DJ's with Wooden Ears' we wouldn't be moaning.

This album was never 'contemporary' in anyone's house ... however, your comment that 'Republic' was dated when it was released is correct.

EGG ????? Temptation???? LWTUA, isn't that the Arthur Baker's mix???

The Trouser Enthusiast mix ain't a real T.E. mix... They made the mix, but weren't pleased with it, so it wasn't officially released. I don't know if the mix from the latest DMC compilations has something to do with them, probably, mind you, it has the same remixing technique as theirs, i.e. outdated. It has a very very heavy techno background, like trance, and Ian's a bit speeded. Weeeee !

As for EGG Dave Clarke and Temptation CJ Bolland... "I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone --- I think I'll walk alone ---

Terrible.

well, i see how it is a bit confusing...

in retrospect, they should have done a more "classic" remix type record instead of throwing money at a bunch of disinterested remixers, and stated that on the back at least...

they could have used some of the original complete 12 inchers that were unavailable elsewhere, or even had a little duplicity from Substance... the cooler original Confusion mixes are very poorly represented on CD... Dub-Vulture B-side... the silly 12" mixes of Blue Monday/ Beach1988...

these are all more original New Order-ness, other than the habit of the 90s of just handing off a track to a bored producer(s) to gain him an easy nice paycheck. i wish i had some of these old 12" single stuff on CD.

Another NO purest - I say no remix albums by other bands or tributes either. The only tribute album I like is Joy Division's "Means To An End" - which is quite good.
