The Light shines on Buxton

After all the bashing Hookys took recedntly this gig should balance things up a little.

He did Unknown Pleasures which for some reason did not sound as powerful as Lowry gig but maybe thats becasue I was siting down in the stalls on the side that was sitting down (the other side all stood up) Rowetta version of Insight was very powerful though.

After a beer break I stood up and danced the rest of the night. Closer was momumental, is there a better set of three songs on an album that is Means to an end, Heart and Soul and twenty Four hours, supberb. Also a sterling rendition of Decades. Rowetta version of Colonny deseves a mention as well. I think Hooky has chosen the riht songs for Rowetta to sing.

Then for me it was the real treat, for at least a 7 song encore The Light came on and did Dreams never end, The Him and Doubts even here. Then went on to follow this up with a brilliant take on Ceremony. When New order sing this in recent times Barney only ever sings the 2nd chorous, tonight Hooky sang the whole song, after these 4 tracks goose pimples all over. Then the three big JD tracks Atmosphere, Transmission (which at thsi stage I felt dead on my feet and Hookys got years on me) and ended with LWTUA. A great gig, the movement tracks really made it. With reading Dec Hickleys superb book at the moment the Movement tracks have been shed in new light, so great timing. Personally i have never heard Movement tracks live before and they have a lot more energy live than on vinyl. I think The Light went through almost 30 tracks so well worth the money.
Hopefully will be there in Nottm to see them again and see New Order in Birmingham, more gigs than ever cathing NO / JD stuff...fine time(s) ahead.

He really is going to do Movement isn't he? That'd be like Roger Waters touring Piper At The Gates Of Dawn whilst Pink Floyd were still going.

I have no problem with Hooky doing whatever he wants but how is he going to do the Sumner sun songs off movement when he can't manage to do his own off the same album very well?

It would seem that the dubbing is completely fooked on the link posted above and I suspect a dodgy recording. I seem to remember Mr Sumner sounding awfully ropey live on many an occasion. God love you Mr Sumner

I don't want to come to the show. I've heard the live album. It's a strong performance of great songs and sounds good, But it's an imitation of what once was. Like shagging your ex-girlfriend 20 years later. Probably fun, but not necessarily the best thing to do.

It's a covers band that performs other bands songs, the youngest of which came out thirty years ago. It's nostalgia and merchandising of memory. I wouldn't be interested in seeing Iggy on his own doing Raw Power, or Roger Waters on his own doing The Wall, or Macca doing Please Please Me. There's not enough of a connection between the lineup and the material for it to feel correct to me.

Write, record, release something new. Songs no one has ever heard before. I'll be interested in that. Not rehashing and impersonating old memories.

Fair enough... I feel much the same about going to a NewOrderNow gig. The only difference being I am not basing that entirely on stuff I read in the press.

Shame you're so against Iggy & Roger, having seen both those shows I can confirm that you are missing out. But do carry on..

What a jolly day it was , had some pre gig drinks with sister order and got to the gig just as Hooky came on, some groovers had nicked our seats , so being rebels we stood on the none standing side for the unknown pleasures part, ace, some muppet wanted "her" to stop waving "her " arms, this is punk m8, Anyway got our seats for the Closer part, it just gets better with each listening, great to Hear Dreams never end again after 21 years, they were going to play Dead souls but i guess to much excitment,, we all filtered out.. what a night shame im away for some of the June ones,Funny getting the train back to woodsmoor all the kids getting on at new mills, furnes vale etc going to the centre of the city for a night out whilst id just had mine

I saw the Iggy & The Stooges show - that was brilliant. Didn't see Roger - £85 a ticket is far too much!

agreed.. if you weren't there, and they don't exist anymore, why chase it. Unless you are into going to see 'Mamma Mia' or 'We Will Rock you' etc etc, and are keen on a bit of nostalgia.

Just saw 'Doubts even here' on Youtube from Buxton, totally briliant.

I appreciate your putting NO down as your Dads no longer part of it. However the same points have been made in numerous interviews so it's hard not to beleive it.

How would you feel if he starts touring as Peter Hook and the Zimmer Frames covering the Lights take on Unknown Pleasures and in interviews states Jack didn't realy add any value!

I have always had a lot of time for your Dad and have had many conversations with him in the village, however some of the things he says makes it difficult to support him or his views.

I've not heard "Dreams Never End" live since Cities in the Park.

Glad Hooky has this and over movement songs in his set.

Like others have said, I'd rather he wrote and toured some new music though.

He tried with Freebass and as he said at Buxton he thought it was a good album even if others didn't. Bad Loo did the same. I liked what they did too. I for one and I'm not alone would rather go and see Hooky and/or NO perform their past glories. At some point or other life is nostalgic.

I enjoyed the Freebass and Bad Lieutenant gigs. I'm greedy and want more... and new...

Both albums are good in my opinion

For me its a great night out seeing The Light, and thats what its all about. New order / JD are my favourire band of all time, they've probably had their day making new music in particualr to the standard of past glories being the past glories in my opinion is the greatest music ever made. I love loads of music so enough bands / producers are producing great new music which i buy and go to the see them live. But whats wrong with going to see your heroes playing the songs that mean the most to you. We are after all writing on a new order site. The Buxton gig was fuckin brilliant end of story. Go and you won;t regret it. Its about the music and Hooky loves playing live and he and the band give everything. The Movement tracks were a real treat. The Light do not have to tour stating which album they are play anymore from now on The Light just need to state JD and early NO tracks. I will be at Birmingham in April. I don't take sides I don;t know the band members persoanlly, all that matters to me they give us a great night out. Hooky fuckin loves it, if you see him live he is in his element, his enthusiasm is catching.

I'll give you a break once you guys finally play Ceremony in Washington D.C.

Galaxie 500 remains the only band to have played Ceremony at the 9:30 Club. So Montreal got Ceremony AND Dreams Never End, and we didn't even get Ceremony.
