I'm as in the dark as anyone else, but I had a vague feeling this announcement was coming sooner or later. There's been talk of new Other Two - Bad Lieutenant - Stuart Price stuff... But NO was always going to be a safer bet. We'll see! Exciting news, but best not hold our collective breaths!

I was thinking of the same thing, I think that they already have stuff that they were working on before the whole tour started with BL and The Other two, so now they just have to polish this stuff into sounding like NO and lets hope it goes well.
Great news Sounds like they are more into the electronic sound at the moment, a change from the last 2 more rock-orientated albums
New synth album - great, would like to see them do a track with Calvin Harris, he did an awesome job with Rihanna.
eeeurghhhhh that makes it sound like it'll be like Electronic's Raise The Pressure or Guilt Is A Useless Emotion
johnny wrote: eeeurghhhhh that makes it sound like it'll be like Electronic's Raise The Pressure or Guilt Is A Useless Emotion
I wish the new material would sound like 'Miracle Cure' or that song he did with Hot Chip.
This is awesome news!!! I would love a new New Order album. I can't wait to hear it! This is like the only thing I have to look forward to now haha

Agreed..
Id say this new material will be out pretty quickly. I remember steve saying something about how new material should be put out quickly and as well as that its not economically viable to piss about in the studio when it'll be released for free on the file sharing sites.
Probably the one thing i agree with hooky on (post him leaving the band) was that the time and the money (quarter of a million and two years) spent on wftsc was a scandal and is this day and age you get your songs out and gig to earn your living.

And I don't know how long it took to create and release the Bad Lieutenant album, but that probably didn't cost as much as WFTSC to make, which shows that it's possible to create an album without spending a lot of money in a major studio and using many producers.
Well if they'll use the material they already have from BL and The Other Two sessions, it could be out very quickly.
I think releasing a Bad Lieutenant album or an Other Two album at this stage of New Order's current profile would be pretty pointless. I say that as someone fond of both BL & TOT's previous output. But for now all members (bar Jake Evans) of those two bands are in "the more famous" band with far more sales potential. So like Jul says I'd rather they just creatively combine what they've got where they can and slap New Order's name - or New Order Now - on it.
Releasing an Bernard Sumner solo album (or BL) and an Other Two album THEN sitting down to write something new from scratch would be creating so much work for themselves, and New Order typically take 3 years minimum to write new material from scratch. I genuinely don't think we'd ever see new NO material if they decide to invest all their song-writing in side projects for another year.
I liked what Steve said in interview a while back regarding TOT, little EPs here or there are the way to go. It means new material sooner and typically has less filler because the band concentrate on 3 or 4 really good ideas rather than trying to generate three times that for an LP where invariably the quality starts dipping here and there. Plus it uses less cash which seems crucial in today's recording climate.
If you remember before the NO tour started last year they were already working on a new BL album , remember this instagram picture on FB they posted.
http://instagram.com/p/C1gN3/?ref=nf
So guessing they already have ideas and stuff written down, so I guess they will go forth from that.
did you actually listen to the interview? Yes they may make a start on a new album but,its gonna be delayed for YEARS!
As is lost sirens, sorry to piss on your chips but thats the way is is.

It would be a safe bet that some of BL's material would have been released by new order had hooky stayed about so id say a lot of material was already to hand before they started recording proper.
From what i gather steve has a studio at his home which will reduce the costs of going to real world or windmill in dublin unless of course the label pays and then it could be delayed a lot longer.
Even so a lot of the material will be done on cubase before it goes to the studio so that will save time, the technology on these daw's has improved dramatically since wftsc so its possible to get studio quality from home and work as long as you feel you need to.

wishful thinking im sure from certain people.
I dont think they'll piss about in the studio because if they are working on new material it will mean they wont be gigging as (from personal experience) its hard to reherse and redo songs for gigs while writing and recording at the same time.
The demand is there for gigs as we've seen and for new material as we've said and the band would be thinking that these gigs are going well that its a good thing to keep on with it especially when they are enjoying it.
Im sure certain people would be irritated at new material and we will be in line to denigrate as soon as it hits the shops but nothing you can do about that i suppose.
Jul wrote: "delayed" as in "court case"? How long do those things tend to last?
Is that a hypothetical question or addressed to a particular member?
Jul wrote: Part hypotetical part adressed to anyone who might know really.
Im sure "someone" on this forum could answer you.
I dont think the court case will delay the writing or recording process and if it ever came to the point where a certain someone was blocking new material unrelated to him it would be very very sad indeed.

I actually quite liked the Calvin/Rhianna "We Found Love" collab, in a Guilty Pleasures sort of way. But the idea of Calvin working on a NO album...well I think they should do their own separate things.
I presume their record label would be awaiting the outcome of the legal situation before getting enthused about releasing new music by NO but that wouldn't prevent Bernard and co laying the ground work for the next album and maybe even debuting a new song or two if they perform live in 2013...
A lot of wishful thinking in this thread, no? I'd bet my butt nothing before 2016. Let's just hope we get the Sirens stuff to bide us over in the meantime - or even snippets from BL / O2 / Stu Price...? God knows!
... But you're probably right, at this point those projects could well morph into NO - as I mused ages ago.

Complete agree with you there Debaser... not owning an album by either artist. Perhaps I should have said Billy Corgan to be even more devisive, oh no, that's already been done 😂
Great, another thread advising musicians what is and is not acceptable for them to do.
Maybe they could all just do what they want and each one of us can choose whether to buy/bootleg like/dislike attend/stay as they see fit.
Or is someone going to tell me I can't do that, now?

its a nice tactic for some people defending tribute bands to claim victimhood because of those bad boys and girls but the same people would prefer to silence the obvious ridicule and contempt the vast majority of fans have for tribute bands, lack of creativity or shamelessly cashing in.
YAY!
Sod the record company - Just set up your own label and sell it online; lower overheads and improved profits... although you do have to employ a team of internet sniffer dogs to take down links to your hard earned copyrighted ripped material.

I don't know what makes you think I feel intimidated by anything. I'm just amused by some of the points of view on offer here. I doubt it's the vast majority of anyone; just a small number of people who post the same thing over and over. I've been watching it for years. People who disagree tend to be crowded out. Lose interest. Leave it to the hysterical few to argue it out about how unfair the world is. The anonymity is most telling. You occasionally see them at gigs. Skulking around looking miserable and whispering that it's not as good as it used to be. Mostly they stay at home.
Shamelessly cashing in. Beautiful.

What makes you think that? 😕 But I suppose with your screenname based on the JD song and that kind of attitude...maybe you don't care about New Order.

well what makes me think that is because you seemingly are concerned at people telling you what you can and cant do.
I could say the people who defend hooky's greed and nostalgia etc are a small number of people, hysterical people and so on but ive yet to see anyone defend him apart from saying they'd like to see those old songs being played. and they'd say the same if re order did what hooky is doing and at least they have to dignity to not to claim its for artistic reasons.
You must have a sixth sense for spotting them at gigs, i suppose they are the ones who dont fill hookys wallet.
Yes shamelessly cashing in, no difference to kajagoogoo or howard jones nostalgia tours, hooky will probably get a wig of his hair circa 1987.
You're on the wrong thread, love.
This one is about what the rest of the band is allowed to do.
Hooky's career committee have a thread to themselves (although surprise surprise that's mostly you as well).
There isn't a thread for me yet.

i saw limahl play at butlins a few years ago. he was excellent.
If it's truly a collaborative effort between the five of them, I have a feeling it couldn't be anything other than fantastic. Have them produce it themselves, have it truly be their record.
Hell, have Steve do another 'Procession' and make him write the lyrics, or throw Gillian on backup vocals instead of outsourcing it to some session diva. It'd be really interesting to see what Tom throws into the mix, as it would be his time to really shine creatively.

How annoying would it be if Hooky also managed to put a block on new stuff as well as the Lost Sirens? Would he think 'Nah, let the fans have that one' or would it be 'Fuck 'em its not being released'.
Good job Jacks fucked off or Id be getting an angry Meme at this point...

I thought the Burgess collaboration was the best thing any of the (recent) side projects did.
In fact, it was probably the only thing that sounded genuinely New Orderish, which is probably why I liked it so much.

Hardly surprising as the bassline is pretty much a direct lift from Fac33
but yeah a strong track and you could imagine Bernard singing the Burgess lyric. Definitely the best thing Freebass ever did... just a shame the album lacked the same spark and quietly died a death.
To be fair, the Bad Loot album contains some quality song-writing although I can see how the lack of variation and guitar-heavy sound may put some people off. "This Is Home" is this great merge of Doves and New Order though, really good. Running Out Of Luck could easily have been a New Order song, one of the geetarists attempts a Hooky style melody in the outro.
The Light EP... well without being unkind I'd rather just listen to the Joy Division originals and as for "Pictures In My Mind"; there are reasons why bands sometimes abandon demos and I think Joy Division's quality control was perfect the first time round. As I've said before if they choose to do original material I'll definitely check it out.
The Mod is right again. Personally I've always been the first to rip the pooh out of everything they've done since Technique ('Lec excepted) but I like the BL album. In fact I may be in the minority but I consider it the most consistent Bernard effort for years - certainly pisses all over the wankathon pop of Republic and Raise the Pressure. Runaway is lovely, Poisonous Intent vaguely Crystally to me, and Twist of Fate trundles along merrily. Only Dynamo gets me hitting the jump button - it has B-side written all over it! Frebass? Hated that EP and thought thanks for the 6-year wait: YDKTAM starts well but never gets anywhere, Milky Way has been compared to Spinal Tap, that Dark Starr rant is the kinda shite anyone could make up with sufficient fluid (alcoholic, not bodily), and Live... is more Revenge than Monaco. BUT I did like the album and yes that includes the singer - shame their activity was shorter than my first shag. And my last one. As for this new album, it's gonna be fun discussing and theorising but let's not hold our breath eh?
This is the best news I've heard all week, that's for sure. I wasn't sure if NO would ever release any more new material, though I had them down for at least three more compilations.
Yes, it would be nice if they released those unfinished songs from WFTSC, though it's be a shame if Hooky wasn't involved in that.
Before the NO tour started last year, so many keyboards
One thing about NO is that they made great synth pop songs as well as great guitar rock songs, so it would like the new album to have some kind of balance, 50% rock, 50% dance. I loved most of the guitar songs on WFTSC but the dancey songs...not so much, namely, Draculas Castle and to, a lesser extent, I Told You So (altough I have to admit that I like Guilt Is A Useless Emotion). So, If they want to do a dance album they have to do better than that.
shellshocker wrote:

Who says they're unfinshed? Hooky was the first one i heard announcing it until he seemingly changed his mind.
I am I the only one not looking forward to this? WFTSC seemed like the a good end to an era (with a couple crap songs thrown in to show that another album probably isn't in their best interest). BL was weak, with a couple decent songs... TOT, don't want to start on... Don't get me wrong, I'll buy it, but doubt it will be one that will be played often.... I predict a side project sound with the NO label slapped on... not what I want out of NO💀
I think it's just a reality that if a band/songwriter etc has produced something wonderful and critically acclaimed, it'll be hard and unrealistic to write something that matches that. There will always be fans thinking it's not good enough. Even the best songwriters cannot create masterpieces all the time. But I think the current lineup has the potential to write something decent. Of course, for better or worse, New Order fans like us, seem so hard to please.

I know what you mean, but thats not really were I think the band is going. The side projects (minus the first Electronic and Monaco albums) never had the polish or desire for radio play. Seemed many of them were half cocked ideas, that had a good start, but never intended for public consumption. More of a "jam with friends I guess we could release."
NO had more thought in it. I think that had a lot to do with the friction between Barney and Hooky, as making both happy lead to great songs. No friction, no challenges to sophomoric ideas.... leading to songs that have a good seed of a thought, but no substantial staying power.
I just don't believe Barney and Hooky can make great music without each other... as much as they might hate each other now, they really need each other to make for any future substantial albums...
this new album, I fear, will only be a side project like BL with a NO label... kinda ruining a name... guess I like the idea of stopping while you are ahead (stop making albums, not touring).
Better not to release anything at all for 15 years, then release a good one. (New Dodgy album anyone?!), still needs must, the only question is why are they doing it and who for. If they enjoy each other's company and making new stuff surely New Order can go to some new place we haven't seen yet. At the risk of sounding like a broken MP3 most don't want more of the templated 'Hey now, where you going' type songs, i would prefer an entire instrumental album to that!
