Great Great news, this Feb I got married and now a new song and a new album coming out from New Order, WONDERFUL.

Nice album track, not overly memorable, interesting that the bass is so prominent. Looking forward to hearing a better mix. Great visuals on the screen though

Sweet jumping Jesus - I saw this and immediately though April fool wind-up - but no!

Really enjoyed that and very pleased to see the bass so prominent and sounding just like Neworder.

I had half expected the new 'more electronic' sound to lower the iconic bass sound, given you-know-who's lack of participation, so this is a very, very pleasant surprise.

I couldn't agree more, the lyrics sound evocative in the way only Bernard can do.

The track is really dark, brooding, propulsive, and danceable. I like it a lot, cannot wait to hear the recorded version.

What I like so much is how all the band members all have very distinct elements they add to the song: Steve's drum solo at 5.20, Tom's bass line, Phil's recurring guitar riff, Bernard's riff at 5.36 and even some clear keyboard parts from Gillian!

It's a grower though they could comfortably afford to shave off 2 minutes no probs. I like Gillian's keys, esp that weird squelchy sound. Some of Barney's phrasing is a little odd dontcha think?

It just seems like the current New Order era, as well as the 2005-6 version, are not exactly into improv. Everything is planned and prepared in advance to sound more like a studio recording. This new song has obviously been set up well before hand and put in sync with the video display. I don't think they want to play songs and wing it, and figure it out as they go along like they often seemed to try back in the early 80s.

In my opinion, "Singularity" has the authentic New Order's signature, even not repeating their old and epical 12" writing style.

While the setlists hadn't yet become static, after Brotherhood, the days of loose, experimental (I wouldn't use the term improv) performances were gone. We can mourn the loss, but would be crazy to expect them to return at this point.

In defence of "Singularity", this was the first performance of new, unheard material in ages (in front of festival crowds, no less) so I can understand the band not exactly throwing caution to the wind. In the current era of cell cameras and YouTube, just imagine if they debuted an unrehearsed shambles of the track. People would be writing the obituary for the new album/ep/whatever months before it was released.

I like the track, certainly better than Lost Sirens / Bad Lieutenant, probably on a par with the better moments of Sirens. If the rest of the ep/album matches this I won't be disappointed.

Regarding their 80s habit of debuting half finished tracks, you're never going to get any band doing stuff like that any more these days, not while it's seen on You Tube within the day and reviewed by all and sundry worldwide in no time. Especially anything that isn't pretty well rehearsed and arranged/written.

However, there is still plenty of time for this track to change before release (next year?).

After the gig in Chile, a mate - Ricardo - got a copy of the set list with Dian Barton... In that piece of paper was written "Drop Guitar", but Dian told him that the correct working title was "Drop THE Guitar".

Well it's not, it was 'Drop Guitar', and it's not even that now having been quickly named whilst on tour.

But the wonderful thing in Get Ready is they didn't repeat themselves. And I never saw New Order as an electronic music band - as Kraftwerk, which I love so much - but a musical group who incorporated electronics and dance floor influences in its formula. And they're still doing that. "Singularity" really sounds like New Order because that song truly has some of its trademarks even not resembling exactly to "Blue Monday" or "Perfect Kiss". If they were doing that, they're doing a kind of pastiche of themselves. Play synthesizers to emulate/recreate de mid-80s sound is something as rooted in the past as rock also is. If the new song sounds like lite-alternative rock, is because the lite-alternative bands sounds as New Order.

I think the beauty of New Order is the group is as much semi rock as they are semi electronic. I wish they continue exploring and mixing both styles.

I like it more now than i did a few weeks ago.The lyris don't seem as trite as they did on first listen.Bit concerned though that the guitar bit at 1.36 to around 1.50 ( in the professional, webcast shot footage in Sau Paulo) reminds me of I Will Follow by U2.

the record release will obviously have superlative vocals by sumner, and i suspect all of the new songs will be of great quality. these still very young old wonders will never release anything less than great , as they are writing for themselves , not us .
