A few comments...

  1. Simply "Complete" would have been a better title. "Music Complete" sounds like a bit of a Kraftwerk ("Musique Non Stop") or even Chemical Brothers ("Music:Response") rip-off.
  2. The snippet on YouTube reminds me of "Here To Stay."
  3. I like the fact that it's primarily being self-produced. They have not done that since "Technique."
  4. It's somewhat amusing that it's being marked as the first album WITH Gillian versus the first album WITHOUT Hooky. ;-)

Did we know Stuart Price was producing a few tracks? This is all very interesting.

If anything deserves its own thread it's the title of the new album.

Great new especially for vinyls lovers such as myself. The same excitement I felt prior to the release of GR. Let's hope the expectations are met, expect a few one off shows robe announced soon. I bet these will sell out immediately like the Troxy where I had to pay double the face value to get a ticket, as much as the vinyl box set!

Ha! Keeping it real as usual. I used to wonder if you were related to Bob Monkhouse but now I'm thinking maybe Jack Dee.

No that keen on the artwork if i'm honest but let's see what the music is like.Think i like it even less than the WFTSC "No" artwork though the original one with the girl in the river that was shelved because of the Tsunami i did like and it was a shame they didn't go with that one.The last sleeve that truly blew me away was the Low Life one.Saville never really topped that one for me.

Don't really have a problem with the title. I don't mind it.

Do yea think there will be downloads of the extended versions if you buy the 99.99 edition? Which by the way extended versions of all 11 tracks, I did not see that coming!

Peter Saville really blew it in 2001 with Smiths-like packaging of Get Ready and the singles. This one reminds me of the Windows-95 Paintbrush: we used to doodle such things out of boredom. I know that point is ridiculous but still, really??

Does anyone know, if you order the £65 vinyl box set from the New Order store, will they take the money from your account now, or just prior to despatch?

Once a design professor of a University from Rio de Janeiro who is a big Saville's fan explained in a forum the "possible message" behind the artwork of "Get Ready". It was something like "the image (and even the band) doesn't matters, just pay attention to the music". There's some elements in the artwork that suggests this. We have a top model on the front cover (Nicolette Krebitz), but she got an anti-glamorous / anti-fashioned style and ruined clothes; she's also filming instead to be filmed / photographed as usual for a model; and there's no band's name or identification, just a red bar. Conceptually nothing to do with Smiths really.

No i'm pretty sure the money won't be taken before the album's despatched, that's usually how these things work.I've ordered the deluxe and no sign of the money gone out of my account yet and am sure it won't til the album's released.

Bought my box set last night for a robust $115 in the US. Very excited by the promo and the hope that comes with a new release. What makes it better, in theory, for me is the 11 tracks, plus 11 extended mixes/versions of them. I think about how tight the 4 minute version of TPK is and then how glorious the full version is, and can only hope we are getting serious extended versions. Plus, one can hope for one of the 200 signed boxes....[:d]

Additionally, does anyone else think the teaser is Singularity? I listened to the live version again against the teaser and think it is. Or is it just me?

Correcto, Aracri.....I recalled reading somewhere that Peter Saville explained the idea behind the GR artwork - that New Order fans have a unique way of identifying the band's items, almost like having their own language.... therefore by having no words on the album cover, instead inserting a red bar or green bar is effective enough to reach out to the fans.

By the way Nicolette Krebitz is def not a 60s or 70s icon, so no way Saville's taking any cues from The Smiths cover art....[:)]

Thank you for that. I know that's usually the way companies such as Amazon etc work but I was a bit unsure with this one. I wanted a bit of flexibility seeing as the release is still 3 months away. I'm going to order it now then because I would love to be lucky enough to get a signed copy so there's no point ordering it from anywhere else. I note some places such as Rough Trade are advertising the vinyl box set but there's no price listed on that specific item yet, whereas there is with all other formats? It will be interesting to see.

Oh Lord. I just read this with regards to the deluxe box set:

"All orders receive Music Complete HD and MP3 digital files on the official release date 25th September. THE ACTUAL BOX SET WILL DISPATCH EARLY NOVEMBER.
Instant grat download of first single available in August. Please note: Price does not include postage and packing."

So this makes it over 4 months away now. And if the first single's dropping in August, I suppose they're going to be taking money from us before this?

I've ordered it anyway. [:)]

Interestingly, I selected courier delivery at £4.70 and I was only charged £3.95. Bargain!

Edit: And yes, they took the money straight from my account, which I'm now slightly narked about seeing as I won't be seeing anything for my money for a while.

Rumours of a pre-release EP called "Lyrics Incomplete" are truly unfounded.

On a serious note, I hope the long delay has meant Barney has afforded some time to write some better lyrics other than the "hey now man, where you been, see that stray dog on the floor, blah blah blah".

I know its part of the charm (yawn), its not his forte (yawn), its all about the music (yawn) etc but a bit of variety on word play would be appreciated.

I note today that the details of the box set are no longer showing on Rough Trade. Just the CD and black vinyl/clear vinyl versions. According to Mute...

"The box will be limited, but it is still in development stage. We are hoping the box set will ship a lot earlier, unfortunately, due to the current problems getting vinyl manufactured, we just couldn’t guarantee it being ready earlier. You will get the album on release date digitally."

Better get those orders in. Not sure how many are going to be produced. I suspect they are currently gauging interest. Hopefully it will ship sooner than expected.

Two of my all-time favourites! When I was 16 I wanted to be Jack Dee... Two years ago I wanted to be Jack Dee again, but for different reasons: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/melanie-cs-canoe-capsizes-during-3326070 - "My helmet is covered in scratches..." Quite honestly I'm just chuffed there's a proper release date. I've always been wary of the band's notriously vague interviews - gimme an actual date and I might wake up. New albums from NO AND PIL in the same month? That's like my grandmother's old chair. it ROCKS.

Okay, so it is:

winter came so soon summer never happened we're players on a stage with roles already scripted we're working for a wage we living for today on a giant piece of dirt spinning in the universe

I can hear you cry out there and I can feel you close to me

one day at a time inch by inch for every kiss on lovers lips we're all lost souls who can't come home friends not here we shared our tears

all I wanna do is to make the right impression the instrument of truth a soldier with no weapon I cared so much for you I crawled a thousand miles deserts full of sand my love in every land

I can feel you cry out there and I can feel you everywhere

one day at a time inch by inch for every kiss on lovers lips we're all lost souls who can't come home our friends not here we shared our tears

one day at a time inch by inch for every kiss on lovers lips for all lost souls who can't come home friends not here we shared our tears

I can feel your presence here tender softley through the air

one day at a time inch by inch for every kiss on lovers lips we're all lost souls we can't come home

Only: on a giant piece of dirt has to be on a giant piece of earth IMO.

Listening!

I'm surprised how more reviews aren't calling out how DISCO this record is? For nearly 20 minutes between "Plastic" and "People on the High Line" we cover everything from Moroder to Chic. Obviously New Order have definitely embraced house music before but this is the first record where Bernard seems to finally be paying homage to the some of the key inspirations that brought him to dance music in the first place.
