I seem to recall that part of the myth surrounding this NO incident involves Chic.

I think it might have been mentioned by Steve during the BBC's Rock Family Tree featuring New Order. The story I remember goes a little like this: The band walk up to the counter in the Police Station and inform the officer they would like to report the theft of their gear. The policeman on the desk has a ghetto blaster turned on with a Chic song playing. He tells our Favourite Four to sit down and STFU until Chic are finished! I think Steve said it put Bernard off Chic for a while. True story, apparently.
