Weirdly, it’s just the top stone, not the inscription. This was mentioned casually a week or two ago on one of the Facebook groups. Someone posted a picture, just saying ‘look where I’ve been’ and then someone commented that it looked like the top stone was missing.
Seems odd that The Guardian would pick up on it only now.
