Apparently there's "new" (unreleased and not bootlegged) audio & video content... something Bernard kept close to his chest for though moments like this.

It's not really news, Hooky confirmed as much on one of his Instagram chats.

Quite honestly, after Heart and Soul AND Brown Owl, can there be anything left? Mind you, I always say that, and the Movement and PCL rehashes were mouthwatering. I also saw the Edicacktion set last Friday and was sorely tempted, but then I saw some Beatles rarities. Priorities.

Audio: There's probably a few choice things sitting in the archives. There's bound to be quite a few recordings of the later gigs. Even if it's a case of tidying up some bootlegs.

Video: Plan K Full Apollo gigs (both nights) Malcolm Whitehead film (inc. Bowden Vale, rehearsal footage and Gretton interview)

And that's just for starters.

It would also be nice to have a DVD release of the Eindhoven footage (which is probably the best 'gig' footage available) and the TV stuff (Granada and BBC footage).

There's also the 'outtakes' from TJD and Bowden Vale that Hooky showed last year (presumably from the Whitehead film).

Finally, there's always been rumours about the possibility that Leigh festival was filmed (unlikely) and both of the Rainbow nights and Club Vera (extremely unlikely!). I doubt they exist but who knows, eh? It'd be great to find out that there's a JD gig that no one outside of the inner circle has seen.

So, yeah, there's enough stuff out there to definitely justify a further box set. 3-4 live CDs, 2 DVDs, lavish book with photos of appearances, ticket stubs, posters etc., recollections etc.

Sign me up...

(I know, I know... I witter on about this on here and JD Central quite a bit. I just desperately want this stuff to be released! I can die happy then).

I meant Grant Gee's documentary. Perspex is right as usual. Some of that stuff was meant to be cumming out around 2007, according to Mojo's article, which I could probably dig out. But you guys are Out Of My League.

Apparently it's the Still album with a new package, very much like the 40th Anniversary UP & Closer. No unreleased stuff at all. I like the colour, though. Oh well...

I don't believe this is rumoured 'live' release that the thread relates to. That was definitely something different when Hooky was talking about it some months back.

According to the 2007 Mojo issue there was gonna be a truckload of stuff coming out for Control, including HATYM on DVD in improved quality (how can you improve on perfection?), that famous footage Perspex mentioned, and Plan K on DVD. Yeah, that's the one. Can't find my copy but there was a massive feature starting '2007 will belong to Joy Division' and listing all the things to look forward to, but not everything emerged.

I've only scanned through briefly, but there wasn't much detail about the proposed DVD features, that I can see. Just a reference to a release of HATYM with bonus features on page 77. They reference the 'No City Fun' film, but I don't think they said it was going to be included (although discussing it in the article would indicate that they'd dug it up at the very least, so may probably have included it).

It would be interesting if somebody knew exactly what was going to be included on this DVD that never was.

As I said and then again, I can't remember much cos it was years ago and I was a total pisshead, but there was a massive feature starting with This year will belong to Joy Division and a bunch of goodies to expect. Cuntrol, its OST, the doc, HATYM, the famed footage, Plan K etc. Anyway, in the meantime I found a bunch of old mags including a Macca revisit, so my time wasn't totally wasted.

All right, turned out to be: Cuntroll film and OST Unknown Pissers, Closer and Still remastered with live CD Doc (presumably Brown Fowl) Here Are The Young Cunts with extras I'm sure I remembered the article promising more goodies, but I'm clearly wrong.

Maybe it was a different article. I’ll have a look at my other 2007 scans when I get home. If I find anything, I’ll let you know.

I do... but it is as perspexorange says, only a hint at a possible HATYM release on DVD, featuring "extras". Never materialised.

I have a couple of those two, including the JD one where they say what a bumper year 2020 was gonna be. Apparently there's some kind of virus going round, though. Let's hope it's nothing serious and won't affect our day to day lives. I was definitely thinking about that issue but you're right, there's no real info the way I remembered. I must've been conflating it with everything else I was reading. I used to check the web and list what was upcoming, so I'm obviously getting confused. I definitely read about HATYM getting rereleased - I remember cos I loled at the 'improved quality' bit - as well as Plan K - remember that too cos everyone was commenting about how it was when Ian met a certain Belgian journo - and the No Shitty Fun footage. Oh well.

I would think if this was under consideration, it would follow the formant of the New Order releases, but with fewer discs. Just a box each for the two primary albums with the tracks from Still divvied up between them. I guess there's a few alternate versions and demos about (radio sessions would be welcome). Certainly a live show or two for each box would appear as well. I imagine the video content is the only sticking point due to the low quality of what's available.

Well, the box set Hooky was talking about was supposedly a ‘live’ set, rather than the studio stuff.

To be fair, Heart and Soul was a good set, with not much missed off, so probably little point in a repackage of the studio stuff.

From my point of view, anything audio wise would be good. I know you will pull together a great set. I can't think of anything specific that I'd like to see.

However, my 'request' would be for it to contain visual material, so would like to see a DVD included. Let's get every visual record of the band together in one place (some of it not seen by most fans). Namely:

1. 'Granada Reports' 20/09/78
2. Bowden Vale 14/03/79
3. 'What's On' 19/07/79
4. 'Something Else' 15/09/79
5. Plan K 16/10/79
6. Apollo 27/10/79
7. Apollo 28/10/79
8. Eindhoven 18/01/80
9. T J Davidson footage 28/04/80 (i.e. 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' video etc.)
10. The Whitehead film. If there is a problem getting this cleared by the band etc (due to Mr Whitehead using footage of Nazi speeches [:eek] ), maybe you could release the JD footage only, i.e. the unedited rushes. If they're available, of course.
11. Anything else video wise? Perhaps that rumoured Leigh footage does exist!

Obviously, a lavish book with some live photos would be most welcome. Let's get some non-Cummins ones in there. The O'Neill Bowden ones, the Slattery ones, those fab ones by Verhost from the Rotterdam gig. I've nothing against the Cummins ones (obvs); it would just be nice to see some of the others used.

As for hoarding, there was that guy that reckoned he had the Rainbow gig from 04/04/80. Might be a bit murky though.

Might be worth shouting out to members on JDC (especially Erik and Marko). They might know of items that are possibly 'out there', but not in the hands of the general public.

Anything live from 1980 would be good. As long it's not a re-hash of previously released live sets. Designed by Saville, existential essay by Morley with some words from Savage, no titles on the covers and at least £200 and you have a winner.

We’re doing a Joy Division box set to celebrate 45 years of Ian Curtis’ life. Who’d have thought that I’d be here 45 years later talking about the idea of Joy Division getting into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame? They literally only existed for less than two years. It’s amazing what we achieved and what Ian has created for generation after generation of kids who were just like us: mixed up, confused, didn’t know what the world and the future held. They rely on that music to get them through, exactly the way that I did with The Doors. It’s wonderful to be a part of that.

Incredible that things still get found all these years later.

What is a little odd is that, I think, there’s reference to the band playing Exercise One and Transmission at this gig; neither of which appear on this recording. Also, the set seems very short, especially when comparing it to other sets from the Buzzcocks 1979 tour (for instance, the two Apollo gigs). Could be due to Ian’s health, but I don’t think it’s ever been stated that this gig was a particular problem.

Still, fantastic to get a ‘new’ gig. Been years since we had a JD one.
