Crikey. I did watch them all back in the day, or most of them. Pretty sure it'll all look pretty dated now. I recall Margi Clarke played quite a big character in the series or at least the first series. Keith Allen too i think.Think the very first episode was in early January 1989 and a few weeks before Technique was released. Got a preview alternate instrumental version of Vanishing Point. Many different variations on it were used on the closing credits over the 3 series and one of course made it onto the Round & Round CD single.
Yes I watched this purely cos I knew about the music input of The Other Two quite talented members of my favourite group. Before the Internet days any info was quite challenging to find even though I still bought both Sounds and NME. Lovely times.

This is a potential goldmine of interesting snippets and curios for anyone with patience and skills in audio extraction. In episode 1 alone there are lengthy iterations of Vanishing Point, and a nascent Happy One.

The credits for series one state "Music by New Order", rightly so I guess as Hooky's bass is evident.
I think you're right that it became "Music by The Other Two" for the last series.
Hoping some of these music snippets (or ideally the full instrumentals they were perhaps extracts from) eventually appear on the 'Technique' definitive edition bonus CD. I remember a few pieces of music in the series that weren't 'Vanishing Point' or 'The Happy One', and one or two sounded pretty cool. I vaguely remember one in a minor key with a synth bell melody and a strings pad that had a similar production and percussion to the album version of 'Round & Round', but with a different tune (although can't have heard it for decades).
Yes it did say music by New Order and Hooky did play. It was several bits of info I managed to read at the time was mentioned that Steve and Gillian were heavily involved. But as Vanishing Point is still one of my top 5 gems this proves that Making Out had a big impact on me at that time. These days everything is instantly available and disposable. I used to spend a fortune for me back then chasing music. I now haven't bought anything since 2015 apart from the odd track. My surviving collection is in far better nick than me!😎
Round and Round was another that I bought in lots of different formats. Only 2 days ago I looked at the Be A Rebel Cd remixes in HMV in Preston and placed back very quickly..I wish I could still get that buzz back. But as Bernard is just slightly older than me I can understand why sailing the ocean is more fun than a studio with The Other Two. TIMES precious.![[:d]](/emoticons/biggrin.gif){kind=small}

I think by series 3 i didn't often watch it but i'd sometimes switch it on for the last few minutes to hear what variation of Vanishing Point instrumental would play over the end credits

This does lend some credence to the possibility that, from Series 2 onwards, there probably wasn't much input from Bernard & Hooky. At least not with new compositions. Probably a mostly Other Two endeavour.
There's always a possibility that maybe even the first series was predominantly S&G. Perhaps even 'Vanishing Point' was mostly written by them, with Hook adding bass for the soundtrack. Then Bernard tidied it up (getting rid of that additional keyboard melody) and adding lyrics (2 different sets, apparently) for release on 'Technique'.
Pure speculation on my part, but a fun thought nonetheless.
Maybe JohnnyJames knows more. If he's reading this, please try and get Bernard to agree to use a demo of that 'second set' of 'Vanishing Point' lyrics on the 'Technique' box.

I didn't notice Selfish in there, but I may have missed it as I'm not massively familiar with The Other Two stuff

Done today - extracted the raw files using the get_iplayer software and chopped out the musical interludes
Especially for those who don't have enough instrumental mixes of Vanishing Point in their lives!

I’m pretty sure Selfish features in S2 and S3 but I’m always from my Mac at present, so can’t check.
Odd that S2 is credited to S&G rather than New Order. I checked S3 episodes earlier today and they said ‘New Order’.

Amazing work this, wets the appetite for the Technique Box Set. Also probably won't bother to watch the show again now and just listen to these, started to watch S1 E1 and wow it's dated (certainly low budget)!!!
On S2, tracks 26, 29 & 37 sound like Selfish to me. S2 sounds more like the O2 overall, don't recognise any other tracks specifically though.

Season 2 definitely seems a bit less focussed, some of the incidental stings could almost just be someone fiddling about with a preset for 30 seconds, but still some good stuff in there
Track 38 I think is very likely called 'The Company Song' as it appears just after they unveil the Japanese-style Company Song. The lyrics on the white board aren't the same as those on the track though Lyrics are a little unclear at the end there

Quite a lot more tracks - nearly 90 minutes of music. For some strange reason Season 3 had a different closing theme, except for episodes 4, 4 & 6 where it reverted to Vanishing Point
Some quite nice ambient passages and a couple of other proto-Selfish sections. As always if anyone recognises anything else - let me know

The end credits was a different version of Vanishing Point on each episode, so included them all
Quite a lot of unidentified incidental music, the only one that I recognise immediately is The Happy One.

Many thanks for all this. For what it's worth, Track 34 has MTO in the middle segment, around the 55 second mark. It sounds a bit better than either of the officially released versions, tbh.

Great spot - I was kind of looking out for MTO as it would have been written around the same time and obvious "soundtrack material".

I'm a tech luddite so when you say you extracted the raw files i'm taking a guess you could do it all without having to sit through each and every episode of all 3 series and capture each piece of music? Well i guess you didn't sit through and watch the lot as you did it so quickly? Not sure how you did it but much appreciated anyway!

Yep - using this utility https://github.com/get-iplayer/get\_iplayer there is an option to download just the audio track. From there just pretty much chopped out all the dialogue and picked out the musical sections

Yeah - me too.
I remember someone saying that they had a demo with the original lyrics on an old hard-drive that crashed and couldn't be recovered (or similar). So, it's likely that some other fans do have a copy.
