I was REALLY shocked by these song being at the top - especially TPK. Don't get me wrong, I like them, they are great songs - but I would have put either song my top 5.

My top 5 would probably look something like this:

Procession Ceremony In A Lonely Place Sunrise Your Silent Face

Honorable Mention: Cries And Whispers Round And Round TBTHOG Hurt Lonesome Tonight Leave Me Alone Age Of Consent

They don't even make my top 10. Anyone else feel the same way?

What about Leave Me Alone?

I can understand why Temptation always wins, but TPK is not in the same league.

I hate to disagree, but I could not think of a better choise.

I added it - It barely missed my top 5, but lands easily in my honorable mention.

Yeah Touched is very cool.

Perfect Kiss is primarily a bloody good New Order song. It's my favourite one, and clearly one of the most popular songs amongst the masses, hence the very high votes it has received in every vote to date.

Each to their own.

Well, I confess it is what first made me aware of them, when the video came out.

I wonder if the year and manner you came to know NO has bearing on this. I bet it does. People who found New Order in the early eighties vs people who found them later. I found them in 1982 - 1983, so that probably explains why the majority of my NO fav's come from the 1981 EP and PC&L vs Low Life, Brotherhood, and Technique.

So how does my finding them in early 1981, a year after seeing Joy Division play live, fit into your theory ?

I am just trying to think of the different things which would cause people to gravitate towards certain eras of music. No theory is 100% true, I never expected it to be. I just wondered if it had something to do with it. It does for me. I greatly prefer their earlier work to their newer work. I prefer the moody stuff vs the dancy pop stuff. I like it all, but my biggest love will always be the 1981 EP, PC&L, and Lowlife.

Both songs would be my favourite at any given time as would about ten others probably. Just when you decide that one particular song is your favourite then back comes another one to reclaim that spot. A never ending battle of emotions.

I'm just glad Shellshock isn't one of the two

Well, I like Shellshock. Not top two or anything, but I like it. "It's never enough until your heart stops beating" is one of my favorite lines.

My top ten, in no special order:

Temptation Vanishing Point This time of night Your silent face Dream Attack Bizarre Love Triangle Ceremony 1963 Thieves like us True Faith

Special mention to:

Regret Sub-Culture Shellshock

They are my two favourite NO songs. Definitely.

i'm not at all surprised--these are both classic songs. while i can name quite a few others i love almost as much, i.e. ceremony, procession, hurt, 1963, regret, world, crystal, here to stay, round and round, BLT, sub-culture etc., when i think of NO, these two often come to mind, hence their place as NO's top two for me.

they are fine, but i'd rather see true faith, close range, world, ceremony or some combo of those myself

Once again, could we put this down to your inability in ever having seen New Order live, Wolfy?

You've got your own favourites, sure, who hasn't? But you've completely misjudged the mood of the general populus.

It was always, always, always, gonna come down to the wire between these two. We did this a year back and Temptation won, although I think Ceremony came joint second with Perfect Kiss that time around, but the poll wasn't quite so structured. And as for the top 5 - Ceremony and BLT were always gonna make up the compliment too. Them's the classics, whether we like it or not (personally, I love 'em all!)... It really didn't need a poll to tell anyone who knows anything about this band what's (a) hot and what's (b) not with New Order audiences though, now did it? Though obviously, with you it did.

What's Steven's quote on Retro about finishing the set with all the Big Songs and they all start with a 'T'? True Faith, Temptation, The Perfect Kiss???

(Er, please, no one add Turn The Heater On to that list!)..

Er, which Temptation and Perfect Kiss are surely featured on? So, you shouldn't really be shocked by everyone else's choice of a top two, no?

Where's "Love Vigilantes" ???

My current top five:

Procession Leave me alone KW1 Crystal Regret

Honourable mentions go to:

1963 BLT Broken Promise Dream Attack TBTHOG Thieves Temptation Player in the league Special Lonesome Tonight

But if you were to ask me what is the song that defines NO it would probably be either Temptation or TPK so I am not very surprised by the result.

Temptation & TPK definitely in my top 5

probably along with AOC, Ceremony and As It Is.

I could agree with Temptation "being New Order" - it is their flagship song. It is just not my favorite. I would rate it way higher than TPK. That was the one that really shocked me. Also stop telling me that seeing them live is going to make TPK suddenly jump to my top 5 - It's not going to happen. I could see them 100 times and TPK would remain a good, but not phenominal, song. Tempation though, that song could move up the list.

to overstate the obvious... these are SUBJECTIVE opinions!

The Perfect Kiss does have all the prime elements of New Order... all in one strong track... while it may be dated as far as a dance track, and may not have the popiest hooks or chorus... TPK is a very good example of all the strengths, weaknesses, personality, humour, and enigmas of New Order... a true "real" electronic/ rock hybrid band jam, of which there are very few

I think I'm the only NO fan that doesn't care for Temptation or Confusion. TPK rocks, tho.....

Unfortunately I am incapable of feeling.

Therefore I must concede the fact that those of you who can feel have voted for these two songs and so I will just go along with the crowd....

I didn't say you had to see New Order live to appreciate the Perfect Kiss, but if you did ever bother to see New Order live, then you could at least guage people's general reaction to what IS a popular New Order song, and what ISN'T. What other form of barometer could we possibly employ for measuring a song's popularity?

I'm just amazed that you're surprised Perfect Kiss was listed. If this poll had been done ten years ago, or perhaps fifteen years ago, I'm fairly confidant it would've ended up going to the wire between these two.
