DURAN DURAN are lining up some of the best remixers to help with their comeback. The Eighties giants are set to team up with Norwegian duo ROYKSOPP, Manchester legends NEW ORDER and techno star MOBY in the coming months. Singer SIMON LE BON said: “2003 is a big year for us.”
Never really thought of NO being remixers, but there ya go. I'd hazard a guess it's just Hooky doing some extra curricular production work, or maybe some guest vocals from Barney, or something harmless like that.
Not sure the bit on New Order was about remixing...
Maybe New Order will produce a track, that's their style.. solo remixing project exists, but as a group? 
But still, this prooves New Order are much more healthy than Duran2.. still I can't figure how Duran never have been able to capitalize on their "Wedding Album", which two so very good tunes in "Ordinary World" and "Come Undone".. then they did The Saint's song, which wasn't so bad, and then.. never heard of them.

Back in 1984, Hooky was quoted in an interview (was it in "Jamming!" Magazine? I can't exactly remember..) as saying he "fucking hated Duran Duran"....so how does that explain anything?

Duran had some good tunes. Seven and the Ragged Tiger was a sweet album when it first came out. The Chauffer (however you spell it) is a favorite song of mine

No point in me getting all hot and flustered about all this,but if people bothered to look beyond the 80's cheese and into the albums you might find that not all Duran stuff was trashy bubblegum. How pissed off would be all be if NO were only judged on WIM?

I won´t judge til I listen to it. in fact, I never desliked duran2 though I never was a fan. let´s wait and see. stranger things had happen.
Has anyone listened to the original 12"versions of the early Duran songs? The stuff that came out before they signed to Capital? Harvest Recordings i believe. The Night Versions of Planet Earth, Girls On Film, My Own Way, Hungry Like the Wolf are very good. Lots more synthesizer and programmed drums...most versions go on for about 3-5 minutes before the vocals start...if you haven't heard these versions, you can't truly judge the Duranies...also listen to the Carnival Versions of Rio and New Religion...better than the originals. The b-sides to the early singles are also top notch...Fame/Kanada/Faster Than Light/Late Bar etc...like most bands, they began to lose the plot after signing to a Major Label.
Royksopp and Duran Duran sound good but Royksopp and NewOrder would be even better....hopefully the Mancs can hook up with the Norwegians.
My roommate at the time had 'em, and I never blanched when they were playing. On a purely technical note though Brian, I do believe that Harvest is/was part of the Capitol/EMI company.
ah....it all makes sense now...
either way, it's still good to throw a punch at major labels whenever the opportunity presents itself.
by the way, these versions can be heard on the limited compilation titled STRANGE BEHAVIOUR.
Not a big deal really...didn't you hear DD's "Thank You" LP? All covers see...Public Enemy, Bob Dylan, The Doors...stuff like that. Definately NOT the DD of the Rio days.
This is all part of New order's five year plan to change their image to show that they are a cool hip 21st century band, no longer an "eighties" band... err... wait... maybe they are doing the dorkiest career move possible just to prove that they don't give a fuck and THAT makes them cool... or... maybe Barney was high.... :barf:

I didn't know that Out of My Mind was also on a Duran Duran album *shame*, I tought it was only for the soundtrack.. I have the tune in mp3.. I also got White Lines from the Thank You album, but we haven't heard of them over here since Out of My Mind..
Which I wasn't too please, because I must admit that Come Undone is ranked high on my favorite tunes list.. I was very happy to buy a Duran Duran album back them since it was the band I liked when I was 11-13 years old :D (I still have Rio, Seven & the Ragged Tiger and Arena on LP somewhere...)
I can't stand those anymore though, but they were good at the moment.. there are still a few timeless tracks like Say A Prayer.. but most of their stuff (or myself) didn't age well..

Transatlantic divide? I dunno...I loved Duran Duran-- when I was 12. I liked "New moon on monday" better than "Blue monday" when they came out, when I was even younger. But that didn't last.
One need only check out their old interviews to figure out Duran Duran if their music doesn't do the trick. But they sure beat the Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, Spice Girls, et al., being a real band that writes music and plays it themselves, has a real sound and some of the songs are actually pretty good.
But with New Order? oh dear. awful cover art, reissue repackage repackage and now this rumor/news? if it's true it will eventually get filed away into my "New Order: the band that gets away with ANYTHING in my book for reasons known only to me" file it'll just be a laugh. :schrug:
As a bass player, I thought it was good news. I'd love to hear John Taylor and Hooky jamming together... Hooky getting lost, twatting Taylor with his bass and continuing solo...
I'm surprised more NO fans are not Duran Duran fans, believe it or not. They had been doing good dance/pop/rock stuff right from the start, and frankly, Simon LeBon is a better lyricist than Barney, most of the time. I guess because they had hordes of girl fans, it wasn't so cool to like them very much.
Only a couple of their newer albums are disappointing, mostly they're good, especially Medazzaland and the wedding album. They actually start to get popular but never seem to keep the momentum going, it's happened like three times.
The original members are working together for the first time since 1986, and most of the time since, Warren Cucurullo from Missing Persons has been their guitarist.
I'm actually really excited that two of my favorite bands are getting hooked up; I've got as many dd rarities as I do NO ones.

Hmmph, I prefer to think its because their songs were mostly awful pop cack. Though OK, Save a Prayer and Ordinary World were just about listenable.
Come Undone was a good track as well.

do you think so? they better stay away from the 007 soundtrack. because the main songs keep so f***ing attached to the original bond song that never made sense to me. though I loved "a view to a kill" and "the living daylights" from a-ha. but I just can´t imagine new order involved with that.
i had a life-sized poster of john taylor hanging over my bed back in '84-'85. damn they were fantastic.... my favourite band from primary school and my favourite band since i was a teenager--jamming together. makes me want to cry tears of joy.
