Piece of shit? Come on, there are a few good tunes.

Problem is, they didn't age well.. for example, try listening to The Reflex today, and it sounds aweful, while if you listen to Temptation....

Duran had some good tunes. Seven and the Ragged Tiger was a sweet album when it first came out. The Chauffer (however you spell it) is a favorite song of mine

Seems to be a trans-atlantic divide - Europe says no to the Duran Duran menace (except the ladies probably).

No point in me getting all hot and flustered about all this,but if people bothered to look beyond the 80's cheese and into the albums you might find that not all Duran stuff was trashy bubblegum. How pissed off would be all be if NO were only judged on WIM?

Has anyone listened to the original 12"versions of the early Duran songs? The stuff that came out before they signed to Capital? Harvest Recordings i believe. The Night Versions of Planet Earth, Girls On Film, My Own Way, Hungry Like the Wolf are very good. Lots more synthesizer and programmed drums...most versions go on for about 3-5 minutes before the vocals start...if you haven't heard these versions, you can't truly judge the Duranies...also listen to the Carnival Versions of Rio and New Religion...better than the originals. The b-sides to the early singles are also top notch...Fame/Kanada/Faster Than Light/Late Bar etc...like most bands, they began to lose the plot after signing to a Major Label.

Royksopp and Duran Duran sound good but Royksopp and NewOrder would be even better....hopefully the Mancs can hook up with the Norwegians.

My roommate at the time had 'em, and I never blanched when they were playing. On a purely technical note though Brian, I do believe that Harvest is/was part of the Capitol/EMI company.

ah....it all makes sense now...

either way, it's still good to throw a punch at major labels whenever the opportunity presents itself.

by the way, these versions can be heard on the limited compilation titled STRANGE BEHAVIOUR.

Not a big deal really...didn't you hear DD's "Thank You" LP? All covers see...Public Enemy, Bob Dylan, The Doors...stuff like that. Definately NOT the DD of the Rio days.

Transatlantic divide? I dunno...I loved Duran Duran-- when I was 12. I liked "New moon on monday" better than "Blue monday" when they came out, when I was even younger. But that didn't last.

One need only check out their old interviews to figure out Duran Duran if their music doesn't do the trick. But they sure beat the Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, Spice Girls, et al., being a real band that writes music and plays it themselves, has a real sound and some of the songs are actually pretty good.

But with New Order? oh dear. awful cover art, reissue repackage repackage and now this rumor/news? if it's true it will eventually get filed away into my "New Order: the band that gets away with ANYTHING in my book for reasons known only to me" file it'll just be a laugh. :schrug:

I'm surprised more NO fans are not Duran Duran fans, believe it or not. They had been doing good dance/pop/rock stuff right from the start, and frankly, Simon LeBon is a better lyricist than Barney, most of the time. I guess because they had hordes of girl fans, it wasn't so cool to like them very much.

Only a couple of their newer albums are disappointing, mostly they're good, especially Medazzaland and the wedding album. They actually start to get popular but never seem to keep the momentum going, it's happened like three times.

The original members are working together for the first time since 1986, and most of the time since, Warren Cucurullo from Missing Persons has been their guitarist.

I'm actually really excited that two of my favorite bands are getting hooked up; I've got as many dd rarities as I do NO ones.

Hmmph, I prefer to think its because their songs were mostly awful pop cack. Though OK, Save a Prayer and Ordinary World were just about listenable.
