Haçienda poll

never been to the place and yes, i would visit it on vacation.

I visited the Hac on many occasions and can honestly say that it lived up to the hype. Besides seeing NO play there several times (twice on the same evening once!) it was also a great club. Of course the other place that was a must in Manchester at the time was the Dry Bar (that definitly wasn't!), Barney especially could often be found there. Great days!!

Sad to say I never made it. Me and a couple of mates thought about going after the G-Mex gig in '88 but felt we'd be wasting our time as we probably wouldn't have got in. I do have a nice membership card I received after sending off for a t-shirt in the early 90's.

Currently thinking about buying one of the luxury flats that now adorn the site.....

great club. great space. got a flyer for the opening of it - nice.

...must admit to being rather fond of Dry too. the matches and beer mats were rather fetching.

Used to attend on a regular basis as young, naive ;)stoodent. Apparently this was the time when the place was dying a death, but I had some of the best nights of my life there, getting off my face and basically running riot! The reconstruction of the Hacienda in 24PP is scarily accurate. Never saw any members of New Order there (was probably around the time they were sick to death of the place eating their cash), but did meet James Dean Bradfield, Mani from the Stone Roses (both absolutely lovely blokes), and *cough* Terry Christian!

yes....the most memorable being the december 85 gig(s)....they played an early set..(10 songs )..of which 2 were screened live for the whistle test....then everyone was kicked out and they played a set later that night which you needed a separate ticket for...( another 10 songs)...the second set didnt start until way past midnight...the most amazing day/night in my new order history...20 songs and if i remember only 1 song duplicated in both sets....i also remember people that day trying to buy and sell tickets for an obscene amount of money in all the pubs near the hacienda...

I've been to the crater thats there now and the Dry bar.

To my eternal shame I never went to the Hac. My wife practically lived in there about 10-12 years ago. Been in Dry plenty of times, but that's no compensation.

Of course I would.

Why oh why didn't I go to Manchester uni?? Just because it was cold and snowing everytime I visited the place - what was I thinking of?

I wistfully looked at going to Manchester Uni but they didnt do any courses i wanted there and besides i doubt i would have got in with my grades anyhow!, so i went to Portsmouth instead (no offence OldBlue i had an f'kin ace time there!!)

Went twice. Stood next to Hooky at the bar for about a minute without realising who it was. Also got one of those membership cards....I sent them a begging letter in 84 asking if they still had any Xmas flexi's left. A nice woman sent me a flexi and slipped in one of those cards as well. Still got the accompanying letter somewhere.

First time a group of us went from Leeds (just cos NO owned) met Barney & Mick Hucknall in the downstairs bar.

Started going regulary in 89 (i think) for the famous Friday Nite Nude Nite (all prices stripped to the bone !!)

I lived in liverpool for 7 months once, but my love for Liverpool FC prevents me from only visiting Manchester airport.

Went to the Hacienda many times. I joined just after it opened in 82, saw all but one of New Orders gigs there. It breaks my heart to walk past the site now, but at least the name will live on.

I went in 1996. My college grad present was a trip to England and I dragged my sorority sister to Manchester and we went out to the Hacienda. It was awesome to finally go after reading about it for almost 10 years (I discovered NO in 1987), although the cover charge was Disneyesque in its steep price.

But I did brush elbows with Hooky. I was too afraid to talk to him in case he was mean to me. I prefer my illusions.

Saw both New Order and Happy Mondays at the Hac. Strangely the Monday's played before a student night called Temperance in about 87/88 in front of about 50 interested souls.

I went to a couple of club nights in the late 80's as well when a mate of mine was a student in Manchester.

I used to have a Fac 51 pin badge but I've lost it but I've still got some of those yellow stickers and a silver matchbox!

lol fac51 pin badge i remember them in fact i still got mine :) and them bloody silver paper matchboxs as well they was given away as freebies at first birthday party if memory serves me. it was worth going to the birthday bash just to see tony wilson get twated in the face with a cake during his speech. i also remember being pissed up and seeing to girls taking down one of the 1st birthday promo posters and shouting STOP THAT RIGHT NOW they promptly ran off and i ran over and nicked for myself LOLOL aaaah they where the days eh,still got the poster too but its a bit tatty to say the least. the HAC was the best club in the world for a while but as has been said elsewhere in this thread it went into being a shithole in the end,best thing to do was to knock it down in the end really and let the memories of a fantastic place live on. about time someone else picked up the torch and let the next generation of kids have a place like it. i joined hac51 just as it opened and was thrilled with my membership card (credit card type thingy)

By the way does anyone know how much the Hacienda apartments are going for?

I always prefered The Venue and walked past people queuing to get in The Hacienda many times. I never quite fancied it as a club to tell you the truth.

Built as a place to build boats and should have remained that way IMO, save for the times I saw NO and of course The Factory All-Stars!
