'now i know'

ok new-order'ers,

[mp3]

here is the definitive version of my all-time favorite tracks...

it's the full 12" version for 'the perfect kiss'..

it's not on 'substance', 'best of', 'retro', or 'international'...

[history]

new order's eleventh release, this appears on several of 12" releases..

however it appears only on vinyl, and not on cd yet...

[review]

and finally, heres the penultimate version,

the defining moment,

the track that remains unsurpassed in their history..

the full, uncut 12" version of 'the perfect kiss'...

i've also cleaned up some of the pops/clicks, and reduced the noise.. hope you enjoy it..

feel free to post your thoughts on it...

'i know, you know'

ok neworder's,

many words have been said about this song...

what else is there?

for me, it was the pinnacle of their music, never to be surpassed or even reached again..

from the moment i first heard it on low-life, i just knew there had to be a 12" for it..

i also managed to watch the short video edit on a local music channel (5 in houston), when it came out...something happened...i was even more intrigued..

it was the first time i had seen pictures/video of the group..so they were real after all...

one day, i managed to walk into a record store, and looked for some records, there under 'N', was a grey 12", with letters on it...'perfect'..

yes, it was the US 12" for the perfect kiss.. so i bought it, and rushed home..and finally played it on my record player..

from the first drum notes, to the last keyboard chord..i was amazed...such intensity, such complexity...i didn't know it, but for the rest of the year, i would listen to this song every single day (along with all its other versions)..

i discovered the 12" promo with the video edit, and much later i would discover the '? best of' laserdisc with the full video version, and listen to those many times also...i made a tape with all the versions, and would listen to that too...

this song has expressed the power that the group has, it builds on the early new order guitar orientation, it takes the keyboards/beats from 'blue monday', and goes beyond that..the lyrics remain cryptic, and dark..

the song goes from peak, to quiet, to grandiose orchestral heights, and culminates in a frentic thrash of guitars...

what does it all mean? i don't really know...

but for some reason, whenever i listen to it, i go through a really intense emotional mood swing...really dark, depressing, then slowly cooling down, before getting really sad....

maybe i just haven't heard anything this emotional from the group since then, maybe i realized they could never surpass this effort?

and then once again, i have to listen to it all over again, and again...

i've stopped in the last 10 years or so, but now i've gone back to it, maybe it will mean something different to me now..

but then again, its just one song, right?

or is it...
