I believe that i am, for one reason alone. I have been listening to new order for 22 years now and i can truthfully say, that my music collection only consists of new order material.In the 22 years that i have been purchasing music I have not spent one cent on any other artists. Music to me is NEW ORDER. All other music to me is just a noise, it causes my brain great pain. Is there anyone out there who has not spent one cent on any other music apart from new order?, and i mean one cent or what ever you currency is.

Wow that is very COOL!I am - because I wrote and told them so in about 1985 when I was 16 (never got a reply that time mind you).
I pointed out in my letter that I contributed in no small way to their gold discs from New Zealand. At the time they only had em from Ireland and New Zealand. Also pointed out that they should release their f'ing 7"s in NZ. They did release the Paradise Remix for True Faith only in NZ/OZ. Quite clearly it was me, me, me who caused that to happen.
Buying other music I think helps give an appreciation of NO and its good to have some variety. But I am embarrased to say that I have listended to New Order most days in the last 18 or so years.
Mickey, I think that is sad! I don't like to go without my daily dose of New Order, but that doesn't mean there aren't any other good bands to listen to. Hope your mrs is a bit more broadminded or have you brainwashed her?
Well perhaps not the greatest fan but it should certainly come into one of a category of superlatives but I can't just think which one at the moment. Very impressive though. Most blindly devotional?
I agree with Ger, you gotta listen to other music to broaden and open up your mind, and of course to make you realise just exactly why NewOrder are the best band out there!

My wife gave me electronics Twisted Tenderness cd, i think its one of barneys best works. Does that count as not New Order?. I've started to make progress in the brain washing department.

I assure you I never wrote a book about New Order! They were just a tiny facet of said piece.
Dave Molyneux has to take the biscuit - he must've seen the band more times in the US than all the collated US fans who post here. And he did it all in the 80's. I've never had to scrimp and safe, most of my trips have been done in relative luxury and with a few bob in me pocket.
One thing that always intrigued me was lads who would have a New Order tattoo about their person. It's one thing knowing that you like this band for NOW, but being marked for life is a totally different kettle of fish entirely. That seems like one step too far for me, especially when you consider some of the Blackburn Youth actually had tattoo's of song titles, which seems just a little too 'ardcore again. It's one thing liking the band, but even going so far as to pick out a favourite song - that's a little extreme!

don't take my comment as a personal assault, as it was not. NO is one of my all time favourite bands(if not my favourite, that title could be usurped by JD though), so its not as if i *don't* relate to the feelings evoked by their music. simply put, there is other music out there that is exciting etc. and it could be worthwhile to search it out, sorry if it came out as arsehole-ish. and of course i can't recommend music that compares to NO. :)

Then why bother at all? You post fairly heavily across a variety of forums - how can you say you don't care when you spend so much time posting everywhere, and obviously take a lot of time analysing their work.

kraftwerk is my number 1 favorite band, period..
however, they haven't done much in the last 17 years or so (since their last real studio album).. but i haven't done much with their work yet (posting, mixes, etc..as most of its rather easy to find)..
when i say i don't care about 'new order', i mean i don't care about their latter works, or what they've been doing currently...
the release of 'retro' reminded me about how cool they used to be, and how some of the music was really innovative..
and seeing how they missed out on great opportunity to re-release a lot of good material, that's why i'm posting a lot of those mixes/tracks, and making discussion about them..
however, i'm not even going to get into albums like 'brotherhood', 'technique','republic', or 'get ready'....because they don't do anything for me..same with the singles from those..
i collected almost all those releases for the sake of collecting them, but i hardly ever listen to them ...

That does seem a touch blinkered from where I'm standing - dismissing whole swathes of music because they were released after a random date. I think most New Order fans would prefer the likes of Brotherhood's BLT or a Regret or Crystal over something along the lines of We All Stand. I don't see why you like some tracks, and not others simply because of the year in which they were released.
Is someone now going to tell us they only like New Order tracks with the letter 't' somewhere in their title? It does seem as churlish.
Maybe you were a hardcore New Order fan from 80-85, perhaps as far as 87, then lost interest in the band (let's face it, quite a few did) and all the output thereafter. However, you post enough on various forums to suggest otherwise but I do find it a tad unreal that you still have a passion for tracks from nigh-on twenty years ago, and little since.

it would be nice to post the mp3's on one site...(however, it would be way too much bandwidth)..
my own site was brought down by people stealing the links, posting them elsewhere..etc... when they were only supposed to be accessed by fans..
imagine if this board had all of them (we would never be able to get on, it would be slow, etc...)
i did not pick a random date to stop liking the group..
here in the US, they never really toured (ok, i saw them twice)... they weren't really promoted until 'bizarre love triangle' and 'true faith' (which i didn't care for)..so there really wasn't a presence or even any news to keep up with them...until 'technique' came out..
i had already moved on..
don't forget, there were other bands worth listening too...in the 90's i got more into electronica/industrial stuff (underworld, 808 state, shamen, deep dish, fluke, skinny puppy, cabaret voltaire, cj bolland, josh wink, dave clarke, darren emerson, etc, etc...)
so the output from 'new order' did not appeal to me, it wasn't going in the direction i was...(NOTE: there's an interesting cross-section of mixes from 'the rest of', that i did like, since some of those mixers actually did some from 'new order'...)...
anyways, after the 'sub-culture' mixes, there's only 'shellshock', and 'state of the nation', 'true faith', 'blue monday 88', and 'touched by the hand of God'.. vinyl/edit/video mixes..
which should just about wrap it up for them..
after that, you're on your own..
yes, i know thats only about 40% of their mixes...but i'm not sure how many other people want all the rest of them...
we'd be here doing this, until the summer, to get the rest of them..
and i would like to finish off my own versions of:
- international 2 - 4 disc set w/all the singles
- recycle - 25+ disc set w/all the mixes
so i'm going to take time off for that..

man, i couldn't imagine not listening to new order's 'more recent' material (i.e. post-1987). sure, not everything they've done since has been fantastic, but neither was everything they did before--hell, nobody's perfect. however, what's so wonderful about new order is their consistency: they produce very few marbles of poo and bagfulls of diamonds.
neg. 1: if you don't like what they've put out during the past 15 years or so, that's your prerogative, i just hope it's not due to some silly reason like 'they've become too popular,' translated: 'too commercial.' i'm not saying this is your reason for shunning 'new' NO, but to me those who do adopt this mindset are in fact subliminally shouting: 'i'm trying very, very hard to be different'--which makes them, paradoxically, just like so many others out there.

its not the group that changed (if in fact their music has retained the 'essence' of 'new order'..)...
ever since the split, and the influence of all their solo projects....(by the way, i do like the 'electronic' side project)...
its me that's changed..
i don't knock the group for trying to continue..(ok, i knock the remixes)...
but the biggest impact from them occurred in the earlier years for me..
if they go that route again, and try to re-invent themselves, perhaps i will listen to them again..

Obsessed much? Only buying music from one artist is not a sign of a great fan. It is the sign of a fan that thinks their band is the best because they never listen to anyone else's music. If i only read one book, it would be the best book ever... to me, but that doesn't make it so. Without taking in the material from other sources you have no frame of reference to judge one against another. Saying that all music other than NO is noise is really an ignorant comment. Ignorance is not possessing necessary knowledge about a subject, and concerning music, by your own admission, you are ignorant. Devotion is admirable, but blind acceptance without question is not wise... that is one of the main causes of the dark ages. The church and law kept written knowledge to themselves, hoarding books and the like, so they could tell people whatever they wanted... and people would have to accept it because they couldn't research it for themselves and come to their own conclusions. Eventually people realized this and rose up against the church and the law. If you look at many cults in the world, they function under the same thought - expose people to one perspective, then tell them that they will be persecuted for investigating anything else. That way, because they have 1/100000000 of a percent of facts, they can be easily controlled. By excluding all other music (which is really really sad) you have built yourself a nice self fulfilling prophecy. Only investigate one band, think they are the best, never get anyone else's music, which reinforces your belief.
Maybe there should be a thread or poll first to determine what the criteria are for being voted the greatest NO fan. Perhaps my cat can be voted for? Doesn't blink an eye whatever song is played at whatever volume; she is just plain happy always (it seems).

Whoahhh! Hang on a minuite there geezer. Sure alcohol CAN kill if abused but so can driving your car too fast and eating red meat that's been pumed full of steroids. I'm a big fan of alcohol, I sell it for a living and I consume it on a regular basis. I've done my fair share of recreational drug use in the past as well and I'm of the opinion that alcohol is defineately the lesser of all the evils when it comes to drugs.
Plus, nothing competes with an ice cold pint of Stella on a warm summer afternoon, not even listening to New Order!

Yes sure! No problem with that at all I think. My previous reaction was to encourage people to come up with their definition of greatest NO fan. Seems more fun maybe? Define greatest as:
- only listen to NO: at least 1 candidate in this category
- know 1 or more bandmembers from kindergarten
- acquired most band material (CD's, video's, bootlegs, shirts etc.)
- attended most gigs
- posted most messages to this site
- ... Just to make sure: I don't think I am the greatest fan and I don't have to be either. Enjoying their music is enough.

What did you see there?
Fuck all of any note! It's as grim as it gets. We took a jeep out into the countryside and even that was astoundingly unremarkable.

lots of yurts, i imagine?
i know someone who lived in a yurt in the middle of a field in colorado. they had to pull it down because of building codes and move into a permanent-type structure.
