HOW MINT IS YOUR COLLECTION?

Although i have never got round to telling you ALL about my vast collection can you share with me your secrets about how well you look after your collection.Are the MINTY MINT VINYL COVERS still put in plastic dustcovers.Would you buy another single just to get a PERFECT COVER with no marks or creases like me?:DI know there are one or two here like me but come on now and spill the beans! Bollocks to that Mickey boy....records were made for playing. It would be like having a Ferrari and never driving it.

My cousin on the other hand, also an avid NO collector, has gone down the dustcover route. He even keeps the receipt with each purchase, or hand writes one when he gets something from a fair or the internet!

Mine are all in a terrible state. What the heck, one can't take it with you. Though obviously some folk intend being buried like the ancient Egyptian pharoes, with all their New Order stuff with them ready for use in the after world.

(Though it would be a bit of a bugger to arrive on the other side and discover the Egyptians were right, and all you've got with you is a badly fitting suit. Perhaps I should arrange to have my minidisk player and substance in the box with me, just in case.)

I understand what you both are saying and agree BUT i LOVE the artwork so much that i have them as my ART.It is actually VERY easy to maintain.I just HATE fingermarks and creases which takeaway some of the beauty of these VINYL beauties.But if you have noticed i have relaxed a bit and that is why i have been recording my collection and donating some to NOOL charity.These should be heard and NOT just viewed. am not obsessive but i like to keep all my collection in good condition. although years ago my bed collapsed (no comments please) and created a nice hole in my palatine box set which i'm still pissed off about to this day.

Bought this about 3 years ago...absolute MINT LPs but the BOX is a DISGRACE!£15 only though

I'm going to pick up a replacement Substance because I was a fool and scratched disc 1.

Nothing MINT about my collection, everything is in very good shape though, and is well-looked after, what with all of the inner and outer plastic sleeves, cleaning the vinyl, etc.

I actually did buy a second copy of PC&L on Factory US vinyl the other week, for only 5 dollars, in near mint shape. Didn't think I'd ever see that again (all I see is Qwest stock otherwise), so that seemed to be a must purchase.

Almost all of the Factory UK stuff is hard to find in any shape, so that's another factor in my purchases here, and if one is able to find it, it's almost always at collector prices (I've seen A Certain Ratio and Durutti Column albums for sale at 20 dollars, minimum).

I try to take as good care of my records as I can. Vinyl goes into a poly lined sleeve, that goes into the record sleeve, the album goes into a 4mil outie with the opening on the same end as the album, and everything goes into a 3mil outie. Pretty much the same for 7"ers except for there is no 4mil outie (never had access to them if they existed). Albums and 12"ers are stored in crates I made years ago, and 7"ers are in boxes made for storing records. I get my stuff from www.bagsunlimited.com and they have great stuff and great prices.

the few lp's i have are n.o./j.d. with the albums in their original plastic wrap, the records have been played, but they are in good shape

Well done ANITA...you sound just like me!:DI did not start this with a view to make MORE money if i sold them cos i would never sell.It was just that CLOSER was such a brilliant but delicate cover that i thought i should protect it.Must admit though i had been doing this for years before with other records.Even CD singles in cardboard sleeves got put into plastic covers although most of these have NOW been sent out protecting CD-Rs that i have sent NOOL's.So you have a piece of ROCKET COLLECTION albeit a platic sleeve!

try to get as good a copy as poss, but if have a whole in the collection & an average one comes along will get it as its better than none.

does your dodgy palatine lane box set have a hole that looks like it might have been made by a collapsing bed though mick?

Not quite as mint as Rocket Mick or Anita, but still in decent enough condition. I do think a slightly battered sleeve is a sign of a well loved (and therefore well played) record though.

Ive been gradually getting my stack up to mint and selling off the M- stuff, not had much success selling but its nice to have doubles and trebles to give to those seeking something theyre missing. I sold one of my 1981-1985 Jap promo Lp`s recently it was in beautiful condition and went for a song..

As for protection I get my sleeves,poly`s,dividers, sheaths!, inners , outers, liners and DJ boxes from Covers 33...the ultimate for your Stack:D

I don't have that many records but protecting them goes more or less in the same manner as you describe except for the crates. Mine are stored upright behind a glass door to keep out dust and the cat. When I hear about MINT the first reaction is the extra production of saliva because of the imaginary taste of peppermint in my mouth.

Well, if it makes you feel any better Rocket man, I once let our black labrador Checkers use the inner sleeve to Republic vinyl LP as a spoilsheet for his sleeping basket.

I endorse MICK's MINTY MINT mode of collection. All sleeves, no finger prints, dust covers, etc. As Wilson famously mentioned on the NewOrderStory, they're more than CDs or records, they're flippin' works of art. I'm moving down the road of framing and displaying some of the showpiece and signed stuff. In fact, at the risk of appearing a complete boffin, I'm currently looking at elaborate ways to best display my entire audio-visual collection, it's getting out of hand. Anyone got recommendations for attractive storage shelves, racks, showcases? I saw some good retail-style stuff on a UK site, Red Storage or something, but they don't have a local supplier down this way.

PVC covers abound in my collection of art. There is no open-air vinyl, and quite frankly there really is no place for this on the Earth - quite disgusting ... the very thought.

Without wishing to sound like a complete boffin, dusters are commonplace if the occasion arises where a track meets the needle. I have been known to dust the record and the cover before the PVC is drawn to close the gig.

Like the submarine missile launcher, I too am about to embark on a few framing incidents. The difficulty for me is not in how to frame but what to frame. The American USA mini-album is currently looking likely. And once its up, I fully inted to celebrate with some mature cheddar and red onion crisps.

After all, I've been wanting to frame a Saville masterpiece since I was knee level to hopping grass insect.

I used to take my records in the air raid shelter with me back in 1991, and they're not even very rare. Beat that.

I dunno about mint, but all my records have got a hole in the middle.

as long as they play, that's all that matters to me. there's something comforting when you can see the shape of the album through the cardboard--the VVL, or visible vinyl line.
