The remix for me because towards the end what seems like a thousand violins start up and after a couple of seconds you realise that its a police siren type noise which rises and falls several times. No doubt someone will tell me what makes this noise because I'm musically illiterate but I just know that I like it and it makes me shiver deliciously inside.

Don't think i've ever actually heard the remix. I have it OK, but it's one of those things I've never listened to.

I always thought '63 was a better song than True Faith, so the original gets my vote :)

With that bit extra it is 1995 REMIX for me!And the PROMO is delightful for the cover!:D

Although I like the 95 versions energy, I like cold sound of the original. Suits the lyrics well. But next week I could change my mind.

I like every remix of 1963, including the 1994 version, but definitely the original one for me is better than the others.

As somebody said in an upper post, 1963 is better than True Faith. The b-side is the real reason to buy TF single, I think.

I don't really think this is much of a contest. The '87/Substance/12" version, however you want to refer to it, is King.

(Although not as good as True Faith!)

i also prefer it to 'true faith', but the latter is still a cracking song and probably better suited for a wider radio/MTV audience (case in point: my non-NO-loving friends like 'true faith' but are usually never fond of '1963' when i play it for them), hence its ongoing popularity.

Best rendition for True faith was in Republic 93 Tour. Love hearing Montreaux live version till today.Great perfomance!

I have to sway the original by far. The '94 remix is pretty close, but more song = better listening experiance. And the '95 version really dissapointed me. It lost that one synth riff (you guys have to know the one I mean..) that makes the whole song. Probably a least favorite remix actually, I even prefer the Armand Van Helden mix of Bizarre Love Triangle.

The '94 mix has a different vocal take. Were they recorded in '87 or '94?

The original!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also found the remix a bit "empty" though the bass sounds great in it. But the original version is perfect.

Mixed version is fine and dandy but the 12"origial is tops.

have to say im with the original too, when the competition in select magazine to make your own new order compilation was done i put 1963 in as one of the tracks & the explanation (you had to explain why you picked them) was that this was a b-side from new order that any other band would love to have as an a -side.

& its one of the very very few songs by the order that the bird likes.

Have to say this is one of those weird things I have with this song....when the 94 and 95 Baker versions came out, I loved it, thought those were refreshing and rightfully replaced the 'dated-sounding' original version..... ...but recently I played my SUBSTANCE CD and when 1963 came on...I thought -WOW!! sounds GREAT....!!!.. I guess I have to vote for the original version...for the moment...

I fell in love with the original for its energy, but the '95 remix has such a better "sound" that it has to take the cake. And it still keeps the best bit at the end. I simply love the guitar intro, I guess it's just another perspective but I've played the remix heaps more than the original in terms of how long I've had it.

I think we can all agree that the '94 version sucks--why weren't the "I just want you to be mine...." verses put in place of the endless repeat choruses at the end?

I always thought 1963 was pretty special based on the only version I ever knew (Substance), until I heard the Arthur Baker re-mix (as well as seeing the film clip for the first time) when NO hosted an all-night music show we have in Australia called 'Rage' earlier this year. The Baker version is far more uplifting and has a sense of euphoria about it which is more typically NO, so that gets the vote.

I love both versions, but went for the Substance version simply because it was the 1st one I heard. Couldn't honestly separate them otherwise.

Original version for sure - a remix has to be outstanding to top a NO original.

I prefer the ‘95 remix : its “hookish” bassline (intro, at 1’25’’, 2’57’’ and at the end 4’45’’) ; its growing dramatic intensity with “violins” playing a kind of romantic tune (= love) at 2’26’’ and 3’29’’ but turning into a police siren (= drama) ; a drama underlined - more evidently than in the ‘87 version - by the gloomy keyboard at 2’42’’, 3’44’’ and culminating at 4’15’’. I’ve never heard the ‘94 version.

I prefer Arthur Baker's version.

It is strange, because it is probably the first remix that sounds more neworderish for me than the original version. Maybe because the original version was produced by Stephen Hague.
