OT: Help me identify the Durutti Column song!

I've got a disk with a lot of Durutti Column songs on, one which has a (mumbled!) lyric along the lines of "I want your secret smile" - can anyone identify this please?!

On another thing to you Old Blue - how did you get those History of Cuttings into PDF? Did you scan all pages as JPEGs and then combine them in one doc?

Much as I'd love everyone to think that I painstakingly scanned each page individually, the truth is that we have a scanner at work with a sheet feeder that does both sides!

Did you scan them as JPEGs before PDF though? I want to start tackling all the cuttings I've got and trying to work out the best way!!!

Yeah, the scanner software saves each page as a JPG (or TIFF, or BMP, whatever you like) and then you just tell Acrobat to make the one PDF file from them.

Does anybody enjoy Durutti Column album; 'Without Mercy'? - to my mind this is the quintessential DC album.

Bruce Mitchell DMX programming coupled with Vinni's melodic jangling sublime. Seems to crystallise the whole DC ethic, and what they were about (or are about).

You can play this album time and time again and it still sounds fresh. Quite unique, a modern (neo-classical) classic?

The original artwork glued to the front of the cardboard sleeve; ace.

Without Mercy is superb. I recorded it onto CD from a tape, and the quality isn't great, but it's still more than listenable

Has it not been released on CD? - I might tape my vinyl.

It is one of DC's best albums. It was originally available as part of a 4 CD set (Fact 244 if my memory is correct).It was also released on Factory Once with the SAy What You Mean EP on it (plus 2 other tracks). If you'd like a copy Mr Huntsman drop me an email with the address etc.

Action Records currently have that CD in stock for a mere £7.99

It was a moral dilemma Bluey, I was stuck between a rock and a hard place: on the one hand, I own 'Without Mercy' so by rights a CD copy is in fact a backup (sorted; legal), but then again I didn't want to do Vinni out of a few sheets, which I'm certain he'll need to for food with which to reach 7 stones (a personal record).

I should buy it, but having just viewed that website, the organisation is appalling.

Now I could always copy my own vinyl, but that means going to the loft which could result in a fall through. And then a CD is about a quid so, mmmm.

Having previously fallen through a loft, I would not recommend it. And the quality wouldn't be as good from vinyl.

Agree that Action Records isn't the greatest site in the world (my acknowledgement e-mail didn't tell me the postage cost!), but at least it had something I hadn't been able to find elsewhere!

Having checked that website out there is a contact link to a 'bruce' at Durutti Column. Could it be?

According to the new CD 'Someone Else's Party' Bruce Mitchell (who doesn't play on the album this time) is now the DC's manager. As for the earlier moral dilemma, I don't mind offering the copy because (like a lot of poor misguided fools) I've got nearly all the Vini stuff in multiple formats and the f***ing digital remastered lot ('Without Mercy' was £4.99 in a sale at HMV - and would have qualified under your strict financial guidelines!) As for the quality of my service - all the ladies round here know about that. Hey, Old Blue ain't so bad either.

One question about DC has been on my mind for awhile: how did Lindsay (T. Wilson's ex) manage to sing on that I Get Along Without You Very Well single?

Well I can't fault Action Records - the disk arrived yesterday (ie day after I ordered it) - thanks Old Blue!!

No worries. Their website may be skank, but the stock, prices and service are top notch.
