Definately late JD/early NO.
by the way, hooky´s bass went lower and lower over the years, isn´t it? on warsaw days it was on hooky´s belt and on get ready days it is nearly at his feet! is the bass getting heavier over the years or is hooky bending?!?!? ![]()
Originally posted by almanso well, no. that picture was taken in the warsaw days, in fact.
I know, I was just stating my shock at Hooky's "Village Policeman" look from that era and saying I prefer the late JD/N0 look. :)
Glad to see he soon got out of his Warsaw "Hello Sailor" look, as did Bernard with his 'tache. It has to be the Joy Division/early New Order beard look, pretty unique for a beardy bloke in early 80s. He did have a bit of a major travesty go on a bit later when Revenge were touring in about 1990 with that daft high pony tail that made him look like he had a pineapple on his head.
The Joy Division photo (no. 2) is just classic... That and the one from ULU 8/2/80 (I think) are my two favourite Hooky photos from Mark Johnson's book (I think I'll go and use that as my avatar). I photocopied them and made them into inserts for nearly all my tapes, all those years ago when I still had plenty of time for such useless things.
Man, this shirt is the kind revolted teens use when they are 12 or 13. Jesus, Hooky!!!...:bag:
Definitely #2, and it's one of my favorite photos too. It actually looks like he grew up between the Village People/Warsaw one and #2 (which may just be appearances).
Love the Rickenbacker!

This one wasn't a choice. I would have voted for this one. I'll have to go with #2, nevertheless.
#2 for me too. #1 looks like that bloke from Frankie Goes To Hollywood, what's his name, Paul Rutherford or something. Not a good comparison.

Thanks Ricardo, I've replaced the fuzzy one I had (and the picture
)
Originally posted by anita I love the Joy Division look, too. But...where did the Warsaw pix come from?
These pictures were taken at Rafters, Manchester in 30 June 1977. I've scanned the second one from the book "An Ideal For Living".

His arms are getting longer.

No, his legs are getting shorter, I tells ya ![]()
definitely the second option. the 'schoolboy fuzz' option brings to mind 'frankie says: relax', and he's gone through some faux-george michael facial hair phases in his time.
Joy Division period beard looks best, but since he has "viking" looks any sort of beard suits him, he would look silly without one. ![]()
What about the clean cut image on display around the time of the Tube performance, swept back hair , sharp metal edged collars, bootlace ties? A classic aberration
Wasn't there a period in the mid-late 80s (see TOTP of True Faith) where he lost the mullet and went back to a late JD look, if briefly?
If not, great mullet hiding job. ![]()
