As we all know, New Order is very busy lately in preparation for the new album. They are still in a writing stage, about 25 ideas for songs so far. New Order has the intention to enter a recording studio in October. Gillian Gilbert (Keyboard, Guitar) is not involve on this new album due to family commitment (To clarifying many reports She was involved on "Get Ready" album, released August 2001, but was not present to promote it). No producer 100% confirm yet.

New Order did write a 25 mins ambient song named "Soundtrack" to go along with Peter Saville expo. Anyone will be able to hear it while visiting the expo. Soon after the opening May 23rd (within 2 weeks hopefully) a special CD soundtrack will be available at the exposition only. Peter Saville solo exhibition at the Design Museum, London from 23 May to 19 September, 2003 www.designmuseum.org

Love the picture, LWTUA! (it's one of those great "Ian's just getting winded up" shots, and it also happens to grace the cover of my bootleg copy of the Warsaw album)

Now, if only they would tour the states :D

You want Warsaw to tour the States?

I've always been fond of the Polish capitol :D

Someday, I'll have to ask, why familly commitments force you to work from your own house ;)

Is writing songs THAT time consuming? Damn it..

I admire what she's doing, but I seriously think it's not the only reason why she's not working on the album...

So this means Phil Cunningham will be a full part of this album!

Without Gillian there´s no New Order but ex-Joy Division members.

Do you or anybody agree with me ?

I agree, but we can't ever rule out a return for the luscious Gillian in the future, can we ?

Phil is basically a temp :)

Surely resentment by BS and possibly PH of her presence, and presumably of her getting 25% of profits, was part of the reason for the problems?

Somewhat off-topic, but I remember reading an interview Prince gave to Rolling Stone magazine in his heyday (c.1985):

"If (bassist) Marc Brown ever left the band, I'd eliminate bass from my music."

Um, yeah. He said essentially the same thing about Wendy and Lisa...he'd simply stop making music in their absence.

Times change.

The band's new name:

Joy Addition

or....

Joy Order

or....

i'm obviously not clever.

But I miss Gillian. come to back us... She hasn't pulled an Ian, so she should at least play some part in the new album, although what she's doing is undoubtedly more important than any music.

So it's true then that Phil Cunningham will actually be contributing to the recording of this album after all?

I thought maybe Marion might reform or something! ;)

He is credited for Vietnam... so he indeed work with them in studio...

But we all know Bernard can do everything he's doing (except play Rock The Shack and Everyone Everywhere live  )

That sounds really fanatical..sort of twisted see people getting on Gillian Gilbert's case over her absence. She's a woman in her 40s with, from what I hear, a very sick child. maybe rock star isn't on her agenda. if that was my child...or better yet what if someone's own mother felt your health could be even slightly comprimised over a bunch of music. that is just nuts. Im not suggesting anybody here thinks that or has bad intentions but the implications are seeding and are sort of in bad taste...

I agree, hence why I said "she should at least play some part in the new album, although what she's doing is undoubtedly more important than any music."

I'm sad that she's not able to participate, but I don't hold it against her. Anyone who doesn't see how "children" win over "career" in that kind of situation obviously hasn't matured enough to know what's really important in this world: getting rid of nonalcoholic beer :spit:

Seriously, though, she has to do what she has to do, the band will soldier on and we'll be that much happier if and when she rejoins the group onstage :thumb:

Erm, no, that's not what was mentioned in the news item at all...

Not what I said.. they are doing it at Steve & Gillian's farm, so I find it hard to believe she won't do a thing when it's in her house!!! even if she takes care of her daugther, I suppose it's not a 24/7 job and she sometimes would like to rest doing something else!

Of course, we understand the priority there, but the thing is, they are working from her house!

My mate David Sultan words :

New Order remain New Order and she is not replace while the album is under writing. Phil C. is a great help when it comes to record or play live. Exemple: Last Tour or last song recorded "Vietnam". :thumb:

Nah, what I was trying to say is that Phil Cunningham's simply a session musician (helping out New Order on the records, and also in a live environment). That doesn't mean that he's a full-time member of New Order (unless we here something different, that is!)

From the news, I think we can deduce that writing songs, recording songs, and rehearsing for tours is a full-time job, which Gillian can't undertake at the moment. That doesn't mean that she's no longer a member of New Order!

Anyway, popped into the Design Museum this morning (the show starts tomorrow - Friday), and they're already selling Saville's book. One of the leaflets I picked up mentioned that he was doing a talk in early September (can't remember the date, but I believe that it was September 2nd) - a sort of Q&A session. No news of when the CD will be available, as of yet...

l8rs,

Nick ;)

While I am heartbroken to think of another NO album devoid of the lovely Gillian's unique touch, and dissappointed that I won't see her when I finally go to the next NO show in the uk. I have to say that she should be with her daughter or whoever it is who needs her attention. She like the others are our friends, and we should not be so nasty as to complain about this situation. So if ooky's bairns or anyone else who can get in touch is readin this please pass on my best and most heartfelt wishes to Gillian and Steve.

Between the avatar photo and the tenor of his posts, Mr. Campbell reminds me of Dean Stockwell in "Blue Velvet"...'cause he's so f#$&*in' suave!

We have GOT to see Ben!

A girl down the pub last night, who's a friend of PC's, actually said he WILL be writing new material with New Order, so I guess he's defo gonna get a credit.

I really don't think 'we' did, did we? If New Order read this newsgroup they'd be more inclined to play a Perfect Kiss or an Age of Consent for their fans, as opposed to the Joy Division stuff, wouldn't they? Half the JD tracks they've played have come about from a purely commercial perspective - Heart & Soul to promote, well, Heart & Soul! And SLC and Digital to help promote 24Hr Party People.
