Listen to this. I put an ad on the internet/paper-loot around late may this year (2003) stating "Guitarist wants to start band etc..." . I got a call from a guy called neil, he say's he needs a guitarist for a Joy Division Tribute/Cover band. I told him i've not heard of them before which i had'nt. He tells me lead singer commited suicide and the rest go on to be New Order, who i had heard of but have never listened to their music apart from the England song. So anyway Neil sends me a tape with 4 Joy Division songs on, Novelty, Transmission, disorder and Day of the lords. So this is the first time i have ever in my life listened to Joy Division. I start practising the songs guitar rifts and so on. After playing and listening to day of the lords i think to my self, Hang on- Sounds a bit like a song i had written a couple of years back. Anyway i tried to phone Neil to tell him how i was getting on and that their was a similarity of Day of the lords and one of my own songs, Neil did not answer his phone at this time. So i thought to my self i would go and check out a bit of the history to this band and the singer. Well reading through the history on a few sites, I was in quite a shock to find Ian Curtis had committed suicide on sunday morning of May 18th 1980! Un canny or what. I was born 9-50 am Sunday May 18th 1980. I also happen to be 23 when i have found out this. Im not sure what to think. I wa a bit shocked. Just thought i would share this with you Joy Division/new order fans as i though it was really strange.

Spooky eh!?

So what's yer band like? Are you gonna put the Joy Division cover versions on the site? Cos if yer gonna follow in a certain someone's footsteps we'd really like to hear these tracks before it's too late;)

Welcome to the site.

Hi, thanx for replyin, as i say i only put the ad in last month, not long after my 23rd birthday. I only got the joy division tape of this guy last thursday and have not even met them yet. Just learning the songs. Only got those 4 songs.

Nae bother, 4 crackin songs I may add - I have been sent several Cd's with cover versions, I will quite gladly review yours as well. I'm no Paul Morley, more Paul Daniels.....but hey, that's magic:D

Might I suggest you buy Unknown Pleasures, JD's first album, which fetures Disorder, as well as many other classics....if that grabs you, you can then go and get Closer. First New Order album to buy would be the discotastic Technique, then work yer way through.....you will not be disappointed Stevie Boy.

Lol @ paul daniels, Now thats tragic....

Thanks man, i will let you know how it goes with the band and all.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Im sure ill find my way to getting all the albums eventually.

I see why you have WIERDO under your name, go and play with the traffic.

That would be good enough for me. Hunst man with a silent c.

... cheers!

I was going to say, that whilst your story is totally bizarre (and a goodie) ... the actual probability of sharing a birthday with another person is only 1 in 24. Pretty startling stats.

The example given in the book (which I read) was thus; given a typical commercial flight from A to Z, with the passenger count of around 300, the chances are, you would be sat next but one to a person who shares your birthday.

Difficult to accept, but a fact nontheless.

The co-incidence (and sheer ironic element) on my part, was that I read this fact on a commercial jet, inhabited by around 300 people. As luck would have it myself and my bird had secured two extra leg seats and as such were travelling side by side, but with no extra people immediately around us. So although the book offered me these revelations, they failed dramatically as we supped fine wines over the coast of northern Italy.

You are kidding, born the day Ian died?, a bit creepy.

Huntsman, Huntsman, Huntsman, READ after you get the STUFF out your eyes....... I was BORN ON THE DAY IAN CURTIS DIED, I dont share his birthday.

Oh dear.... oh dear.

Yes Martin,

It was so strange how this has happened, as i say i had never listened to joy division nor knew anything about them until this guy phones replying to my ad, co-incedenly me being 23 at this time as well.

The stats. presented encompass all elements. A death and birthday have equal relevance. 1 in 24. I should have pointed this out.

I shall leave you be Steven C-D.

Steve, chill a wee bit, whilst I agree with yer observations that Mr H IS indeed a weirdo, he brings a touch of class and humour, that this place lacks all too often:nod:

1 in 24? Somebody go find out who sahres my birthday then......January 19th:D

You're about 3000 posts short of being able to insult the mighty Huntsman on here, wee lad, and about 5000 short of being able to understand his sense of humour ;)

And....

What makes you so great and almighty????

Although I find huntsman Hilarious, Did he actually read what my original message said or did he just see the post bit and decide to take the piss?

My ability to understand irony.

And the fact that you've never tried to pass yourself off as Ian Curtis reincarnated ;)

... and the way you hold the ball up so vigorously in attack.

Fellas ... for more astonishing factoids (and the book which heralded some of the madcap commotion above) ... 'Unweaving the Rainbow' by the ever unpopular scientist-come-poet lover the right honourable Mr. Richard Dawkins. Good book indeed, very wise for holiday reading (as it has the ability to blow mind cells during brekky). It attempts to 'reveal' things like co-incidences, pyschic misdameaners and just where pigs obtain fruit.

Hopefully Steven and his CD collection will never become angry over this for longer than 50. A fair and relevant contribution for a change I thought.

And yes, I read every last word of the original post. I mean, how else would I be able to put forward the theory about pig fruit!?

Thank you old blue, i think, or are we just jumping on the band wagon of p taker?

No worries Huntsman, i may have jumped the gun. I do find you funny really

I am not claiming to be Ian Curtis's re-incarnation, if there is such a thing, but i am very open minde and neither fully believe or di-believe in such a thing.

It was just a all round Big Co-incedence, But as some might say, there is no such think as a co-incedence.

There's definitely such a thing as a coincidence:nod:

My mams up now staying up in Aberdeen, where one of her sisters live, my Auntie Susan is into all this spiritual bollocks....too much dope if you ask me:nod:

They are that worried about me being down here, they sent me a Clear Crystal to wear round me neck....apparently it has healing powers, opens the mind, and brings out yer feminine side and they believe there's no such thing as a coincidence, theres a reason to everything.....pile o shite if you ask moi:nod:

I do wear the thing round me neck but I haven't succombed to wearing make up or believing in reincarnation just yet:D

"Bringing out yer feminine side" - so that's what you call it is it Shuggy ? :evil2:

Shifty, its a deep subject - what about the old 'oh I knew it was going to be you' scenario when picking the phone up and realising it was a horse from Ipswich.

Is that co-incidence, the ability to mentally detect fowl, or simply guesswork from 50 fathoms?

If it happens twice, it must be true.

That crystal your wearing, would it encourage anyobdy to shirt lift or just people easily turned to the dark side?

Shug's always welcoming to new posters on the site:nod:

Just as long as they don't drivel on about Depish or Glasgow Rangers;)

Steve - you should hang around, you've just gotta be careful with the elders of the site, some of us have been trapped in here (by Nicos and Sebsy) fer 3 years, and they won't let us out:D

Having said that, I laughed out when I read Majors post - he never changes......which is a sin, cos I can smell those feet of yours from here Stevie Boy.....get a job and get some socks.

Wearing the crystal has certainly led to me lifting more shirts Humphrey:nod: but only those belonging to the missus:lol:

And guys,

I would think someone was off their trolley too if they claimed to be a re-incarnation or what ever, but i am not saying this at all. It just was a bit like seeing a ghost i suppose when finding out he died probably hours b4 i was born. So please believe me i am as sane and as pesamistic as the next man can be! lol@huntmaster talking about ghost's, lol

... what about CD Stevens? - sounds a bit like a Dynasty character which is always a bonus.

Steven the CD Player will be had to top.

Personally, Seagull Peter Stevens is my favourite.

Whichever you choose, you must feel it is right for you, of course.
