do new order still attract?

hey everyone

i was just wondering... although i'm now a mad new order fan, i haven't been for very long (only about a year or so, if that). i'm 17 yrs old e.t.c, and i was wondering whether i'm one of a few people who have only just felt the force of new order.

do they still attract fans of my age? or is the phobia (have i spelt that right?) of liking a band with 40 somethings still strong?

Is the music still good ? Yes.

It dont matter how old the band are or how old you are, if you like the music then thats all that matters!

New|Order can actually get away with it a lot more than other bands that have been around for as long as they have, they still are regarded as quite a "cool outfit" among the young and old, mainly due to their musical energy and dance/madchester influence in the 80's

If you asked the average person on the street (in the uk anyway) what they thought of New|Order then im pretty sure that the majority would say something reasonably agreeable in favour of the band despite not necessarily being into them or particually liking that type of music.

I mean they even done a worldcup song and somehow maintained their credibility now thats kinda cool!

I've thought new order are shite for a year or two now. I only come on here for a laugh.

I actually got into them sort of recently, at the beginning of my senior year in high school. And, basically, they, as well as PSB, grew on me, since a lot of the American music - main stream or "indie" - gets on my nerves. Come on, Nu-metal? Emo? New Punk? It all sounds terrible. But, New Order, well, to be frank, just sounds great. Their songs have a tune, good instrumentation, and the vocals aren't all screaming or whining. But, unfortunately,if you ask the average person on the street in the US, they're probably not going to know who New Order is, unless you mention "Blue Monday," which, in that case, you'll have to explain that Orgy did not write that song originally.

Most people in the US think that NewOrder only did BLT and that's it because it's the only thing that gets played. Blue Monday is completely over their heads.

i hope people aren't thinking bad things of me lol

i'm only trying to find out what other people think. new order have changed my musical way of life. :)

I got into them my senior year of high school. Then I got into JD my freshman year of college, and that made me love NO so much more. Ah yes, 3 years of listening to NO. Not that long for me. I'm a quick learner.

I don't know that I want the "honor," nor deserve it. I think NO and I are around the same age. Anyway, I got carded TWICE about 6 months ago...Don't know if you use the same term over there, but it means I was asked for my ID to see if I was old enough to buy beer. Even with my walker.

OK, I just checked the band bios, and it appears that I actually do outrank NO, at least in terms of years, if not in money-losing top-selling 12" singles.

If anybody's looking for me, I'll be hanging around in the library...

Depends where you are... about half of my mates at uni (Belfast) have never heard of New Order. Imagine that, never heard of the band that did blue monday, true faith, regret and a load of other songs they know. Fools.

not at all mate...just didn't realize the library was the bathroom...

kind of like telling the folks at work that I'm dropping the kids off at the pool when I shall be in the lavatory for a bit...

i though most men called itte library, cause they spend so much time in there "reading"...but I know that you are a "special" kinda guy...and do they realy think YOU would have kids?...they dont know you very well do they?

Speaking of old people...

I went to an end-of-year/graduation party hosted at a downtown gay club about a month ago. As I walked in, the Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams" was playing. The girl checking IDs at the door said that wasn't there usual music; they usually play dance music. I asked "So the Eurythmics aren't dance music?" She said they meant more upbeat techno stuff.

Then, as I walked in, I hearthe first opening staccato drum machine blast of some NO song...d'you know the one I mean?

I thought, "yes, this will tear the house down!" I get inside...nobody's dancing...WTF??? Just two women dancing together...everybody else standing around not knowing what to do. Song after song like that- great 80's dance music, and nobody had a clue. Was I the ONLY one who knew the words to Kajagoogoo's "Too Shy?" Maybe I shouldn't ask that here, on second thought....

So by the time dance music they knew came on, and the floor started to fill, I was too ripped from being proffered free drinks all night....So just propped myself up to keep from falling over, and the rest of the night was a blur...

Is it me in my decrepit state, or is it the clueless masses?

It's the fuckin clueless masses. Let's start our own club for good music. Let's rebuild the Hacienda (again).

nah, i just got into new order 2 years ago...right around when crystal was released. i'm 20 now and it's a little strange at first listening to music that isn't really part of your generation. but you get over that pretty quickly as it doesn't matter how old you are, there is no shame in liking music that is that good.

i think whether or not the people around you know new order depends on how old you are. i mean, a lot of my high school teachers grew up on new order...and they're like 30-40ish. meanwhile, my peers have almost no clue on who new order is. they get them mixed up depeche mode. though i've rarely ran into a person who didn't like new order when they heard them.:)

hahaha, on the subject of age, i read a review a while ago of the new order gig at lansdowne road, supporting the red hot chili peppers.

"they obviously only came to see the RHCP..."

"hooky was shouting abuse at the kids at the front.."

"i think you should ask your parents about this song..."

something along those lines anyway.. made me laugh when i read it

Queens, for my sins. What a poor excuse for a students union. cheapest drink, a pint of tennents at a totally unreasonable £1.80. good songs? No. i have the same problem, all the people i associatr with listen to cheesy pop, or shouty metal and think that busted are a good band. Nightmare. I could go on all night with a massive list of criticisms about everyone. but that would just be boring...

Never forget two things about my time at Queens.

1- When someone called me a fascist for wearing a Joy Division t-shirt. Obviously a sad excuse for a history student.

2- When the DJ told me he couldnt play Blue Monday. (Yes i know i dont like it, but you have to compromise!)

I agree with Church. I've he opportunity to be at the original club (it was very lame that night) but, I was happy to have the opportunity to have a few pints there. Lets open our own Club for the masses that have a clue.
