when i first caught it on the radio (yeah, actual commercial radio-play in the states.) i said to myself "damn, that sounds like they've done a good job"
this morning, i threw on "get ready" while getting ready for work and i said to myself in the middle of crystal "damn, they did a good job." i love it.
The first thing I thought when I heard the drum intro was "Christ, they've updated Leaders Of Men." Then I just appreciated a quality rock song (though was a bit disappointed by Hooky's solo.)
are you kidding me? hooky´s solo is a monster! it just brings the walls down!

...sorry 4 being impertinent, but the latest phase of New Order 4 me begins with the release of 'Brutal' in Feb. 2000; this song could had been also on 'Get Ready', because of sounding similar... ...but anyway, I hope, that 'Crystal' marks a begin of a new and long holding on aera...

yeah, hooky's solo is a monster! lol... i don't think we'll be waiting long, there's a lot of activity with the release of the dvd in america and so on.

Still think it's a cracking song - when Hooky's bass first comes crashing in it's just a classic NO moment
The first time I heard Hooky's bass solo on Crystal is when I knew they weren't going to let me down. They still haven't. I think Crystal is one of their best tracks. It's too bad Here to Stay didn't make GR, though, that would have been the capper (well, it's on my version, now :D 
).
Doesn't time fly when you have something 'new' to listen to? I still love Crystal and all the things I connect it with in my personal life (well, New Order have been a sound track to my life anyway)
I'm still enjoying the 24hrPP documentary stuff - silly comments from Hooky et al, even yes... Miranda, who is nowhere near as annoying as I previously thought!

You have got to be kidding with that statement - granted there is a lot more crap to wade through these days to get to the good stuff, but there have been some great new groups and albums over the last few years - in fact, I don't have the money or the time to get around to listening to them all! You're going to end up in Mojo's letter pages soon with all the Beatles and Pink Floyd fans, complaining "they just don't make 'em like they used to".:)

Stunning comeback. There was a time when I couldn't go a single day without listening to this, but thankfully I've weaned meself off it now.
Best thing they've done in the past 15 years.
I like it more now than I liked it then. I felt the slightest bit dissapointed with Crystal, but I love it since I saw the live versions. I loved the album overall though.
I'd have to agree with Al, Crystal was a brilliant comeback song. I first heard it at the Olympia gig Lpool and it was awesome then. Funny enough I got the Japaneses CD with the Reading tracks before the UK version. Even now it still gets lots of airplay in our house.
Fantastic song, it got some friends hooked on New Order. It should have been a massive hit worlwide, then again maybe it's better as it is 
I heard a hideous dance mix on late night Radio One and nearly capsized in my own bedroom at how crud monkey it was. Imagine the 10 year absence, then a 4/4 predictable dance beat with a repeated 'Honey Money' lyric!? - holy cow's milk it almost scarred me for life.
Then I heard the proper version and it blew my hat off.
The same thing happened with Regret, I heard a cheese ball dance effort before the New Order version and I fell for it again with Crystal Carrington.
It won't happen again, I don't think.
It was masterful and stupendous in 2001, its masterful and stupendous in 2003. Quite how they managed to make that drum beat in the beginning couple of seconds sound so 'original' and awesome is surely down to magic. Hooky's bass, unlike the comment by a previous poster who has lost his marbles, is sheer brilliance.
Got to be up there with Tempting Miss Daisy and Ceremony In A Lonely Place Mat.

The first time I heard it I wasn't paying too much attention as I missed the announcement at the start as to who it was. Then the bass comes in - "hell this sounds like New Order....Bloody hell it is New Order!" Next time I heard it I thought it was alright but a bit ploddy for a single but so great to hear the bass back after Republic, it just sounds so effortless why did it ever go away. By the fifth time I absolutely loved it. It's always been like that with New Order singles for me.
"Fine Time" was the worst, that took about 3 weeks after hearing it first on a tinny car radio and thinking they'd sold out to Acid House which I didn't immediately warm to, then I heard it in a club and it all made sense.
As an aside, is Hooky's bass the most (perhaps only) distinctive noise in music (ignoring vocalists - just instruments). I can't think of anybody else who you can pick out on a record when you don't know it's them. He doesn't even have anybody who can mimic him well.
Well, the first time *I* heard Crystal, it was when someone sent me the mp3 of the demo version, that faded at the end (and faded in at the beginning if I remember right). I think many of us got it, and I said.. not bad, not bad at all, but not fantastic.
I first heard the SINGLE version of Crystal, it was when someone sent me the VIDEO for NOOL.. and when the PIANO SOLO comes in, it did it for me.. I said "wow, that's a really good song"...
It has all you want from a New Order song.. solid bass solo, cheesy lyrics, and a very very addictive melody... 
I dealt a lot to get the Japanese single, and well, it's still a good thing, even though I had promos and other stuff later.. it took me a while to get to like the remixes, but the Lee Coombs was a natural (though too long intro), and the bedrock edit used in the US video is quite good when you listen to it.. but it misses the bass which the Lee Coombs remix has!
Good song, but I think I still prefer Here To Stay, it's on *my* copy too..in fact, Here To Stay is the 1st track, followed by the single version of Crystal, together they rock!
remember reading on here of the lucky few with the advance promo (courtesy of muffy was it?) then like many others on here got the japanese cd with the live tracks cos it was out a few weeks earlier & it blew me away

Crystal is a gem in the glittering back catalogue. Took about 5 listens before i got the new sound. Aboslute monster though. Sounds great live too. The additional Hooky bit in the Promo does the biz-ness.

One of the best of their tracks, in my opinion. Classic New Order.
And it is even more special because it was the first track that I had the unforgettable chance to hear its former sounds - you know, those acidplanet samples. It was special to hear those samples... and also to do anything I wanted with them... :D It would be good if New Order give us another chance like that!
Funny enough, I didn't like it at first, thought it was too "busy", like they'd thrown way way too much general noise 'n' effects into it. But that's probably more a fault of my expectations than it is of the song itself.
Absolutely love it now, but the single edit works better for me. It's a short sharp shock, and it says "we're back, and we piss all over the puny efforts of those who have been keeping our seats warm for us". Nice one.
And yeah, live it's an absolute MONSTER.

i can't stand that zwan album. billy needs more kevin shields, less kiss, and someone should tell jimmy that a complex drum fill every four bars gets really annoying.
I enjoyed the single version immensely, it took me a while to appreciate the intro for the album version. But it is a top-notch song, classic "new" New Order
I actually got to hear Get Ready prior to its release (yeah, I know, big whup!). As I've mentioned before, my cuz worked at the college radio station, and I'd come along for the ride whenever I could. One night we were going through the "new discs" when either he or I (can't remember, makes the story better for me to claim it) came across a promo copy. We popped it in to the CD player in the "lounge" area outside the radio booth, and I listened to it pretty much all the way through and he would pop in between segements on the air to listen as well. I think we may have even played a song or two on the air that night, we were certainly the only radio show on the station to make a point of playing tracks later on. Good times

CRYSTAL and GET READY came along right on schedule 2 years ago as I was going through a bad personal trauma. Hadn't heard any NEW New Order in so long and there they (and Barney) were, describing my life in those sometimes stupid-sounding lyrics. I guess you have to be there...or a NO fan.
I remember hearing Crystal on the radio during New Years Eve 2001 and thinking it was fooking awesome, and I didn't really back down from that until I happened to have seen the video for the Club Mix (Digweed&Muir Mix). What an utter botched piece of rubbish. Makes the remixes on the (rest of) seem excellent. Almost spoiled the song for me.

Yeah, but when he isn't being a dictator, we get something so polished and synthetic-sounding like Machina I. When he is (or was), we get something like Siamese Dream. When everyone in SP actually coorperated and he pulled some good solos, we got Gish. But this has absolutely nothing to do with NO and Crystal, aside from the fact that Barney never played dictator in the band, and rightfully shouldn't have.

First time I heard it was on this website, shortly before the "Comeback" gig at Liverpool Olympia, it was only a 30 second snippet if me memory serves me correctly. Hearing it in Liverpool being played for the first time, the song just sounded like a fookin magic Neworder track, kinda like you'd heard it before, but obviously hadn't

There are very few instrumentalists as disctintive as Hooky. I'm almost certain he's the most disctintive bassist... Vini Reilly springs to mind as another possible nomination for "most distinctive instrumentalist".
Oh yes, and Crystal? First heard it on a quiet car radio coming back from the Trossachs, on the Chris Moyles show. Always difficult to tell the quality in such circumstances. With the car engine drowning out the bass, the bit that stood out the most was the "Oooh! Heeey!" bits. I reserved judgement. Loved it by the time I'd heard it five times, still think it's the best off Get Ready. New Order All-Time Top Ten contender on good days.
well, i was just listening to it in the car on the way back from kinko's about an hour ago, as i returned from a massive photocopying session, and i was groovin' like 'soul train' in my car. for a few moments there, i was dawn zee. that says it all right there....
