For anyone in the Manchester area, tomorrow (January 29th) at 5:00 PM David Potts is going to be doing a live set and signing at the city centre HMV (the big one, as there are three within a half-mile of each other :-P) to promote the album.

Thanks to Nick for posting the track listing from Amazon although they've made a few typos:

  1. Roll Up !
  2. And I ...
  3. Dream Away

All tracks are previewed in running order on http://www.david-potts.com

As well as the HMV Manchester PA today @ 5pm GMT there's a free launch party @ Kings Arms, Salford on Sat 3rd Feb. Would be great to see NOOL folk there!

They played at least 4 of them at Blue Saturday. That reminds me, Pottsy hasn't come back to me yet about using any of the songs from Blue Saturday for an NOOL release to raise some more money for Cancer Research and the NSPCC yet - DP?

Does Hooky perform on it?

No. It's Pottsy plus the former members of RAM.

Thanks for the info! This site is such a great place to get good info on great music. Consider my order placed. It is nice to know that somewhere in the world good music is still being made.

... There are Hooky bass overdubs on 'Roll Up', but I haven't had a chance to hear it yet.

It's hardly plastered all over the main forum, Steve.

Stands to reason if Pottsy wrote half of the Monaco stuff (which he rightly did) some Monaco fans might be interested in hearing his solo output. No 'big deal' so far as I can see

Fucking hell, cheer up Steve

And what's this Monaco b-side with Mrs Merton on it?! :skeptic:

We will have a promo with Pottsy for the release.

Unfortunately for him, it was released on a pretty bad week for me, so I'm a bit late for everything.

The press release has been posted in the news room, I am still waiting for my promo copy of the album, should be a good one from the tracks I already hear before (live and not)

Old Monkey... use whatever you want from Blue Sat, fella. Fine by me.

Steve... That isn't Caroline on Bicycle Thief! Forgotten her name now but it was no Mrs M.

Hooky plays bass on Roll Up!

Cheers

Cheers Pottsy! :thumb:

I was thinking of using "I'm The Greatest", "A Bomb In Wardour St" and "Roll Up" - they're all fantastic sound quality - do you want a copy of the soundboard recording?

Just bought this album. I like it. Not bad at all.

I just ordered this. Looking forward to it when it gets in.:shades:

kudos to pottsy for one who had the good fortune to learn from the best. from the inside looking out, this is indie brit power pop - all smart, spot on, and smashing. if ever we could all be so lucky. pottsy is proof positive that nuance, timing, and the martial art of subtlety can get you far and keep you close. sound bytes from mt. olympus reign down.

Really good record this. The single should have been a big hit, easily pisses all over anything else of its ilk released in 2006.

the theme tune was released in its origional form as underneath the stars on the american version of MFP

You mean the "Weirdo" cover?

Seriously, that is the only Monaco track that seems completely taken off a New Order track.

Fortunately it's Hooky, otherwise lawyers would be all over the place

The US iTunes store doesn't have the Pottsy album, it's in the UK shop, but to buy it requires one to have a credit card with a mailing address in the UK. The 7digital downloads are only .wma (windows media player) files. Has anyone in the states purchased the album and/or downloaded it? Just wondering where to find it online. Any info is much appreciated.

Ah, the very reason why legal downloads wind me up!

(i.e. you can buy a CD from overseas, but you can't purchase a download file from overseas)

Been listening to it on rotation these last two weeks sat on a beach in Greece, and it is the best album I've heard this year. Roll Up, Faces and Kite are three top songs, and Pottsy deserves far more recognition.

Honestly, I'm quite disapponted. Not because the album is not good, but I was expecting a little synth and/or electronic sound/genre. I wasn't expecting it to be Indie Rock/Alternative Rock. Anyway, the album is ok. Not very good, but not bad neither.

Indeed!

Bought the album at the Oxjam gig and have been playing it constantly. Gotta say, it's a real grower. Some quality choons on there.....'Faces' being my fave. And none that I'm skipping over either, most albums have at least a couple of tracks that I flick past after a few plays. But this is all killer no filler er, as they say :uhoh:

Shite. You're talking out yer ring. It's the best album I've heard this year still, and I keep finding extra little bits that appeal in songs. Current favourite is "And I", though "Roll Up" and "Faces" are approaching 200 plays on the iTunes.

I totally agree. I bought it when it first came out and still play it a lot. The only low point for me is one of your high points 'And I'. Its up there as a contender for my album of the year.

I feel for Pottsy, he's obviously a very talented guy but he just cant seem to break through for some reason.

I love the album and the single 'Monkey In The Rain' (still available from Pottsy's Ebay store)

As I said in my review, this has got to be my album of the year. In fact, it would go in my top 10 debut albums of all time. There's not one weak track on it.

And I'm SO glad it isn't full of synth pap - it's good to hear an honest, guitar based album again.

Just to repeat myself - it has one of the best openers of any album - Paul Kehoe's drums on 'Got To Be Someone' are fantastic.

Can't wait for the next album

Few months ago, I got the "Ram Sampler". The "Rollup" track seems to be "scratched". Is it just me?

Listened to this a bunch upon release, but it really didn't stick with me...I was a fan of the RAM stuff...a little more raw.

I just bought this album off amazon.co.jp, and I can't wait for it to arrive! :)

Thank you. Good sound quality, not the usual mobile phone shit, some people like to upload.

And wow, there's a female Hooky playing in Pottsy's band.

My personal thoughts on the songs... Here's the official tracklist to the Japanese release of his album.

  1. “Got to be Someone”---I like this one a lot. 5/5
  2. “I’m the Greatest”---Don't listen to it very much, so I don't know
  3. “Monkey in the Rain”---Good song. 4/5. Bonus Japan release track.
  4. “World isn’t Over”---3/5
  5. “Roll Up!”---4/5 I like Hooky's bass on this one.
  6. “Faces”---I don't know.
  7. “For Your Love”---5/5. I loved this one too. Bonus track on the Japan release.
  8. “Richard Parker”---4/5
  9. “Free Yourself”---4/5
  10. “So Low”---3/5
  11. “And I...”---I don't listen to this song very much.
  12. “My Favourite Onion”---4/5. The lyrics are quirky.
  13. “Warm And Happy Soul”---3/5
  14. “Kite”---5/5 My favourite off the album.
  15. “Dream Away”---I don't listen to this one very much.

I only heard snippets of this album is a CD, but I heard most of the songs done live during the last month in several places and I can tell you that if you have a musical bone from your body then you will love this.
