Try All You Want was originally just an instrumental. Bernard added the lyrics at a much later stage, indeed beyond the point of where they'd actually performed it live (at the Dodgers Stadium & Hacienda anyway) so for those performances it was just a keyboard/sequencer number - no vox. I like the tune too but the lyrics are classic Barney I.e. nonsensical.
I think Johnny Marr stated in interview some years ago that Free Will was very much Bernard's baby to which he only contributed the guitar riffs by the end. So clearly a very Barney-centric number which is obvious. As the years have gone on I've appreciated that track more and more to the point of where it could probably have edged out the weaker (IMO) "Gangster" on the LP for me.
