Although TPK is almost perfect, it needs the entire 9+ minute production complete with the Hooky intro and Barney's speed-induced guitar work, and the cowbell. The edits ruin it as well :nonono:

This Time of Night is a stately, ice-cold track made using the same equipment, probably around the same time. Barney's vocals are more sublte but still emotive at the same time. A class, quality song. It's a tragedy they never performed it live again after Darien Lakes '87 :nono:

So for me it's This Time of Night by a (quarter) mile, both are great tracks, but TTON does it every time.

Thoughts?

The two best tracks off their best album (well, Sunrise comes close too). Had to go with TPK of course, even though the album edit is an abortion. TTON comes close though.

TPK. Especially after the singing is over and Hooky and Barney can jam away.

TTON is a whiney little bitch but I still love it.

TPK for me. TTON is a big favourite of mine as well, but if Barney's voice had any more pathetic qualities it would be pretty close to the Duran Duran sector. :ignore:

TPK 12" for me. 'This Time Of Night' is a great track, but TPK is possibly their best single-if not then certainly in the top 3.

This time of night - anytime. Barney sounding pathetic, how sexy! :love2:

OI!! This is a good one!! Really gotta think about this one...OK, not really, but I wanted to give the runner up a little boost.

Hadta go with TPK. And to reittereate what everyone else said so well....Only if it's the full on epic version though.

TTON I don't think Barney comes across as whiney...more like Impassioned!!!

This Time of Night. Great road music. When I was travelling to Dallas for a Wiggles concert, I never got tired of it (but my two-year old did!)

This Time Of Night, by a LONG way - its a class song one of my favourites.

TPK on the other hand cant stand up to that (or Sunrise) having said that; if you could dump the album edit of TPK from the 12" & give me the REST of it on a loop:thumb: then we would have a fair fight. Once the singing ends (no offence Barney) TPK is really brilliant (godlike bass; godlike everything)

Hi... well, for me The Perfect Kiss is untouchable, sorry . But the 12' version, of course, not that edited mess from the album, lol. Off the album version I only like those few secs of the intro that can also be heard on the Kiss Of Death

This Time Of Night is brilliant, genius and all, but it is not TPK

There goes my first post ever.........

TPK is my favorite, & funny enough I was listening to the single today (plus the great kiss of death). Although TTON is a good track, its not one of my favorites off the album. I say Sunrise could compete if there was an extended version ( I would love to here the instrumental, does anyone know how good it is?). Besides, you can't beat Hooky's awesome bass on TPK, & the video is just classic, I love the whole vibe it has.

TPK, although This Time of Night is one of New Order's best tracks of any era.

This is tough. After playing both tracks again and again, I have voted This Time of Night. Along with Sunrise, this song is my favourite off Lowlife.

This time of night..just, TPK is a classic but the frog chorus just edges it into second place :) .

haha posts mean prizes!

I'd go for TPK. Never really fancied TTON on record, but it sounds great live! TPK though, doubt much can touch it

Three words: The. Perfect. Kiss.

[...that and, I've never heard the 12" TPK! *pout* I'm more familiar with the 8-minute version *guessing that's the single version?* and the video version *which is the BEST!!* but I've never heard the 12". Or maybe I had but never noticed? Help!!]

I absolutely love both songs, but Perfect Kiss had to beat This Time of Night for me. Especially the extended version off of Substance-in my opinion that version is so much better than the shorter version off of Low-Life and International. Perfect Kiss seems so much more intricate and intense, although This Time of Night really moves me also. Perfect Kiss is definitely in my top 5 New Order songs-so dancy, so intense and intricate. I love how fast-paced it is-especially towards the end after the singing is done. I must confess that I really don't like the video version of the song nearly as much as the studio versions. This Time of Night is really a very cool, very new wavy song packed full of emotion and almost has as much cool danceability as Perfect Kiss. Perfect Kiss is a 10 on a scale of 1-10 for me. This Time of Night ended up scoring a 9.

The 8 minute version,is the 12" version-albeit with nearly a minute edited out to fit on the Substance CD. Thats the original one,the way it was written. The version on Low-Life is an edit which for most people completely ruins it.

Never understood why the full mix wasn't on lowlife...

Coolness, Steve! Thank you many times a plenty for the explanation on what is, hands down, my favorite New Order song of all time. *grin*

Yep, I love the 'Substance' version [that should've SOOO been a single...], and even more the 9:21 video. Classic. And the video is my favorite video of all time, too.

The nearly 9 minute one is the 12" version. The 8 min one is edited to fit Substance.

The 7" edit version is about 4 mins and the Low Life album version that a lot of people are mentioning on this thread is just under 5 mins

Class song, but none of the versions are as great as This Time of Night (A song that doesn't need 20 different edits)
