About

I am a gay person living here in Melbourne - I suppose, what can you say after all that I said in 'Why do I like New Order'? That pretty well sums me up. A nice guy, one hopes! :) I suppose I pretty much like culture - pop music and videos, art, film, concerts, I go clubbing a fair bit and also out to the country a lot, and I like red wine. You can see a photo of me on the url above if you click on Friends and you'll see me there. It's a couple of years old but I basically look the same. Also it's worth trying menwholooklikekennyrogers.com, remhq.com, chocodog.com/ween, abc.net.au/triplej, abc.net.au/rage and thecure.com. I went to BDO and the Melbourne 2002 show at the Metro, was 4 rows from the front and would love to hear from any other gay or gay-friendly people who were there! They turned out to be the best group I have ever seen at the BDO, and that's saying something compared to Prodigy, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, Happy Mondays, Basement Jaxx, Hole, Coldplay, Underworld and the Manic Street Preachers. It was like walking into a dream, going to heaven and being on a drug all at once. I couldn't quite believe my eyes! And the Joy Division songs - all those inimate, personal meanings that are shared by so many of us. I managed to catch Bernard's attention for a second at the show by overdoing the intended as ironic metal devil sign with my fist, he rolled his eyes in submerged but immense annoyance (great, what a way to share your first and only moment of contact with one of your top pop idols), but then again I thought he was quite bitchy to the poor old new guitarist at one stage and nearly yelled it out to see if I could get him to crack a smile! If I had been one row closer I would have scored a page from the set list as I was lucky enough to do at The Cure (at least Kylie smiled at me a couple of weeks ago!) Oh, and other favourite lyrics are c) at the end of the day, there's no food on our plate, so we beg and we steal, for we know, love is real, d) that's the price of love, can you feel it? If we could buy it now, how much will it cost? b) (continued...)what do I get out of this? I always try, I always miss, in the end you will submit, it's got to hurt a little bit, (for Paul) f) I would brave a rainstorm in my car, maybe you could leave, but you won't get far & I am not a part of society, so don't get off the planet just be with me, g) I don't want to be like other people are, don't want to own a key, don't want to wash my car, I don't want to work like other people do, I want it to be real, I want it to be true, h) I drank in every bar in town, I filled my cup when I was down, saw the things I wanted to see, became the man I wanted to be, but then somehow I lost my way, I've got to get back here today i) you can walk and you can run, you don't have to be someone, I went on a summer cruise, on an ocean born to lose, my brother said that he was dead, I turned my face and shook my head, when it broke down, I kissed the ground, 'cause I don't kiss when you're around, I know it all would be worthwhile, if only I could force a smile& j) look at the rain, look at it falling...! :) I also love Get Ready as well as the older stuff. Other favourite songs are In A Lonely Place, Mesh, Hurt, Your Silent Face, Confused Melody, Ecstacy, Murder, "Thieves" (Instrumental), Sunrise, Broken Promise, Way Of Life, ##########, Every Little Counts, Shame of the Nation, Don't Do It, Best & Marsh, Young Offender, Chemical, Times Change, Try All You Want and Some Distant Memory from Electronic, most of the second album, Vivid, Late At Night, haven't heard Twisted Tenderness, and What Do You Want From Me?, Sweet Lips and Shine by Monaco (YOU ROCK HOOKY!!!), what the hell, I thought I may as well throw them in for good measure!

Why New Order?

Amazing electro music technique, sounds and styles, fabulous production, Bernard (used to be) a sex beast in the 80's and still is pretty lovable isn't he, and of course they write great songs. Completely awesome, as a matter of fact. They disclose passionate, desperate, breathless, intimate, sombre, electrified, moody, utterly confessional and absolutely self-expressive emotions, ideas, refections, imagery and thought within a vogueish, sophisticated, avant-garde and European aesthetic framework whilst remaining personal, intense, sentimental, romantic, tender, and brutal in their honesty. New Order have mastered state-of-the-art technology and worked it so immaculately, pounding the decks so hard with crisp, precise electro while rocking their fucking arses off you half expect their equipment to topple over in your imagination. They nearly on their own saved me from the most desperate, intense teen angst gave the imagination a vivid, rich world in which to play out those heavy dramas of life for me in the 80's and early 90's, innocent and open-eyed as I stumbled into the world, one full of romance, passion, chaos, darkness and extraordinary beauty, freshness and colour, in Melbourne.
