They combined catchy, distorted riffs with dance beats LONG before anyone else. I've always favored Bernard's lyrics: sentimental, dark, but not bleak. Peter Hook's bass harmonies have always been so amazing. I just think of them as a very smart band, who have consistently produced genuine albums.
