New Order's songs have a feeling that no other band's songs can touch. I don't know if it's the words or the way Bernard Sumner delivers them, but I actually feel like they matter to the person saying them. It shows through in all side projects they do, from the beginning in Joy Division to Electronic, Monaco, Revenge, and The Other Two. No other band I have heard comes close to writing songs so well that it makes you feel like you are listening into a thought instead of spoken words. It's the beautiful and unforgettable drumbeats and subtle but wonderfully weaved bass, and of course the keyboards that can both pump energy and soothing notes. Most of all, it's their attitudes towards leading a life that is publicly modest yet creative and shying from the contrived despite incredible success. It's their devotion to the music and not to indulging in fame, as I see from so many of the projects in Factory and elsewhere members of New Order have supposedly helped in but take little to no credit for. I believe in the beauty of life and that awesome things were meant to be created through amazing talent and really admire that most of all and New Order's music reflects it.
