Why New Order?

Low-life, when it came out in 1985, was so different from everything else going on at the time. My best friend's sister died in Dec. of that year and that album spoke to us and helped me get thru that time (along with U2's Unforgettable Fire and Tears For Fears' The Hurting). New Order's music is very emotive. To me, there is a lot going on in the songs, churning up feelings of love, fear, anger, ecstasy. The fact that they sprung from the Joy Division tragedy and grew into their own is amazing. The members are very low proflie and not prone to some rock "god" complex (see Bono). To them, it is about their music as art, their albums and 12" singles are art themselves. I saw them with friends in Houston, TX (where i grew up) on their BROTHERHOOD tour in 1986. Needless to say, that was a great time. They are probably the biggest part of the soundtrack of my life. Thanks.
