JOY DIVISION'S HEART AND SOUL BOX SET TO BE RELEASED IN THE UNITED STATES !
The long-awaited 81 tracks summary of Joy Division's career that was released in the United Kingdom in 1998 will finally see the light of day on the north american continent on AUGUST 7th 2001.
Joy Division's 'Soul' Celebrated With Box Set
The legacy of seminal U.K. post-punk outfit Joy Division will be celebrated with the upcoming four-disc box set "Heartandsoul" due Aug. 7 in the U.S. on Rhino, but out since 1998 in the U.K. The collections sports 81 tracks, encompassing the band's complete studio recordings plus a full disc of live cuts. "Heartandsoul" was prepared with the help of surviving members Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook, who went on to form New Order following Joy Division's 1980 dissolution.
The set's first two discs cover such famed albums as "Unknown Pleasures" and "Closer," the latter of which was released three months after frontman Ian Curtis' May 1980 suicide. Disc two closes with Joy Division's most well-known track, "Love Will Tear Us Apart," which hit No. 13 on the U.K. singles chart
Disc three is devoted to more obscure recordings, such as the group's first EP, "An Ideal for Living," as well as recordings for the BBC radio show "Peel Sessions," and demos. Disc four boasts live cuts drawn from four separate concerts that have never been released in the U.S. to date.
New Order's first Reprise record in eight years, "NEWORDERGETREADY," is due Oct. 16. Later this summer, the band will play four West Coast dates on Moby's Area: One tour, bolstered by ex-Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan on guitar.
