NEW ORDER'S BIG DAY OUT IN NEW ZEALAND
New Order played the first Big Day Out shows in Auckland, New Zealand last night.

New Order played the first Big Day Out shows in Auckland, New Zealand last night (Friday January 18th). Playing last and at the end of a long, humid day, with some torrential rain, New Order were top of a bill that included NZ's wonderful Shihad, Garbage, The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx and current media faves White Stripes ( whose gutbucket fuzz blues and rock n roll reminded this highly impressed writer of prime-time Cramps or a jagged Violent Femmes). Barney and Hook were apparently at the White Stripes sold-out pub gig the previous evening.
New Order came on stage to a warm welcome, Barney expressing his relief to make it after the tortuous trip from the Northern hemisphere (about 30+ hours door-to door). Cap'n Hook looked well pleased to be back in the country of three Joy Division #1 singles, and repaid the favour by playing them all. Long time fans were well served by this set, which included an excellent version of Ceremony.
Barney claimed not to be able to understand the Kiwi accent after asking for requests, and Hook's "Salford" t-shirt was finally sacrificed to the crowd. He probably has a suitcase full of them.
Good to see them back and on form after far too long.
