New Order will not participate in the Commonwealth Games
NEW ORDER, Oasis, The Charlatans all turned down the offer to play at the closing ceremony of next months commonwealth games.
Manchester's biggest heroes declined to support the event, being held in the city for the first time. Instead, Eastbournes Toploader will provide the musical end to the grande finale on August 4.
A source tells us "The organisers were really keen to get a big home town name, so the obvious choices were New Order, Oasis and The Charlatans - however all refused the slot. The bands all came to the same conclusion - that the gig would be a bit naff." Robbie Williams was other to turn down the offer of playing at the ceremony.
